The discovery of a human torso in a secluded woodland has sparked a murder investigation.
Police said the alarm was raised when a passer-by spotted the "unknown item" in Kersal Wetlands, Salford, on Thursday.
Detectives and a pathologist confirmed human remains were found wrapped in plastic.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried in the hope of identifying the victim.
But officers are not expecting the examination to reveal a cause of death because the full body has not been found.

''The torso had been there for 24 to 36 hours before it was found and is that of an adult, it is believed''.
''Chief Superintendent Tony Creely, from GMP's Salford division, said: "We do not know the identity of the person, or whether they are male or female.''
'An extensive police cordon has now been put in place at the largely wooded reserve, which sits north of Manchester city centre and covers around 32 hectares of countryside, according to its website.''

Sounds like the torso is in a bad way if they can't identify male or female :(

I hope they can identify the victim somehow, families of local missing persons must be anxious right now

At the moment the gender and age of the person are unknown, although police believe it was an adult, and there are no identifying marks on the remains.

[…]

Police believe the remains had been there for between 24 and 36 hours before being found.

Link below to the Manchester Evening News, the torso found belongs to a man older than 40.

Is there a thread for the remains found in a park in Croydon? Two very similar cases in one week. Glad there have been arrests in both cases.

The victim has not been identified, though he is thought to be 'older than 40' and 'has only been dead for a matter of days', officers said.
BBM

CCTV is being checked as part of the investigation as the location where the body parts were found is close to the main Bury New Road - a main route in and out of Manchester city centre.

It is understood there was no clothing on the body parts which could have assisted the police in identifying the victim. Currently, police do not know if the victim is local or has been killed elsewhere and part of their remains left in Salford.

A 20-year-old man arrested on Saturday evening on suspicion of murder in connection with the case has been released on bail.

Still unidentified. His DNA has been checked against the UK police database without a match and detectives are now checking more missing person databases.

Yikes.

It's so sinister wrapping the body parts in cling film....giving me serial killer vibes. Doesn't seem like the actions of a panicked person trying to cover up

'This study has shown that the elastic property of the cling film plastic wrap can withstand and able to accommodate the expansion of the dead bodies from decomposition changes. Similarly, its body fluid resistant property has contributed to the ability to contain the body fluid as a result of the decomposition process. There was no body fluid leakage seen from both the subjects during the whole 14 days of observation. '

Such brutal yet calculated actions. Leaving them so publicly implies they wanted them to be found. Makes me wonder if they’re rather experienced and getting bored and confident. How many victims could there be?
