IDAHO FALLS — A cell phone video has been released showing James Brenner cleaning a gun with blood on his shirt moments after he shot and killed 19-year-old Dylan Rounds in May 2022.

The video was “the convicting piece of evidence” that led to the recovery of Rounds’ body and Brenner being charged, according to his mother, Candice Cooley.

“It’s a haunting video,” Cooley tells EastIdahoNews.com. “What was (Brenner) thinking? He was so nonchalant, like, ‘No big deal, I just shot a 19-year-old twice in the head, and I need to go clean myself up.’ … What the hell was he thinking?”

The video at link above is worth a listen, God Bless Candice Cooley. She's demonstrated such strength throughout this whole ordeal.

Candice is amazing. She's done her son proud.

I can't believe that this case hung on an accidental recording and that it was recovered. Had his phone been destroyed....

As it was, Brenner was nearly out of frame for the duration. A shirt sleeve, an arm, a gun, fleeting into frame, then out again.

It was thee evidence.

Spring. Dylan would have his equipment in top shape, readying his fields for planting...

Inhuman isn’t he, I mean how do you listen to family members speak and have zero remorse or sadness? Did he feel a twinge, but masked it to save face on camera? I wonder, late at night, when he’s all alone - if he is terrorized by evil forces. One can always hope …
