I think KR doesn’t want to have any additional reason to make it about Eric. She doesn’t want that extra emotion to be in the room. If people are talking about how sad this is that’s it’s on his birthday, it makes people dislike her even more.

His birthday can also be part of the victim statements. She doesn’t want the knife twisted deeper to make her look bad. I think she is dreading it.

This article mentions the State’s reply to moving the sentencing date.

[…]

Chief Prosecutor Brad Bloodworth argued against moving the sentencing date in the state’s reply filed the same day. He said the defense counsel confirmed they were available for sentencing on May 13 when the guilty verdict was delivered on March 16 and that Kouri told one of her attorneys the next day to “reschedule it for the end of May.”

Bloodworth cited court procedures that say sentencing should be within 45 days of a verdict. The May 13 date is 53 days later, which Bloodworth argued should provide sufficient time for the defense to prepare its evidence that could justify a lighter sentence. He added that the right to counsel in non-capital punishment cases, such as this one, is for one lawyer, not more.

The Summit County Attorney’s Office also expressed concerns that a continuance would have “ripple effects” into other scheduling matters and said the defense’s request should have been filed earlier.

“For three years, Eric Richins’ family has painfully and patiently stood by as the defendant has manufactured one reason after another to delay this proceeding,” court documents state. “There is no good reason for them to suffer further delay. The time has come for the court to sentence Kouri Richins.”

Kouri’s legal team, Wendy Lewis, Kathy Nester and Alexander Ramos, cited needing additional time to “properly research and prepare mitigation evidence and witnesses for Ms. Richins,” given the seriousness of her potential prison term, which includes the possibility of life without parole. The defense also wants to provide the family ample time to address the court, likely as character witnesses, and asked that the matter be scheduled for a full day.

laughable. There isn't time enough in the world to rehab and mitigate their client's absolute cold disregard for the life of her children's father. They could give her another year to find that evidence - and still come up short. pfft

Character witnesses? Seriously?

Well, I suppose there are some people she hasn't yet scammed. Maybe that's whom they're planning to call.

They should probably lock down their credit first, however. She's got very sticker fingers.

Honestly, whom hasn't she cheated?

Not her husband
Not her best friend
Not her children
Not her creditors
Not her buyers
Not her boyfriend

The thing that will be missing relative to mitigating factors -- remorse.

[I sure hope they can't argue a clean criminal record when it's only clean because she hadn't yet been caught, charged and convicted of her sketchy actions.]

Will KR address the Court?

Performance of a lifetime?

I cannot fathom her being able to successfully snow the Court but I also can't imagine that stopping her.

So - I don't know if I missed it - has sentencing been reset from 5/13/26 to 6/15/26 yet? TIA! :)

I don't believe the judge has responded.

We know she wants to. Remember the PI saying the best thing the defense did was control their client? He said based on everything he knew about KR, he was surprised she didn't testify. It'll be interesting for sure. JMO, MOO, etc.

That stood out for me as well: I think 95% of the defense strategy was doing whatever it took to keep KR off the stand. Even Lori Vallow, in the case where she represented herself, understood that there were topics that had to be avoided, and I am not sure the KR did. KR seems to believe that she could gas light anyone into believing anything, and I am sure she wanted to demonstrate that in open court.

In my humble opinion, based solely on her body posture and facial expressions... I think she realized about a third of the way into the trial, the best she could hope for was a hung jury because deep down, she knows she did it, but still probably believes it was totally justified to do this to Eric since he did not support her in her spending frenzy.

Once Eric found out she had stolen from him and he confronted her, I think that is when she hatched the beginnings of her plan to take his money in whatever way she could.

Only haven been caught "red handed" and after her lies to her defense team, did she realize in court that they got her.

I don't know how a human being can have no remorse for killing their spouse for their money, but I think it is tied to "rationalization", justification" and "to correct the wrongs of the past."

I hope the judge throws the book at her and keeps her locked up forever.

Oh puhlease, defense! Is this request for delay the same as the request to delay to prepare a case in chief that they never presented? Remember that whole bs about they wanted to adjourn for 2-3 days to review Carmen's transcript? There are 3 of them. You're telling me they were so sure she would be acquitted or get a hung jury that they did not even think about preparing for sentencing until now?

I think it is more a sign of they'd rather work on other cases. Who would blame them as public defenders.

Remember how they spoke before the verdict was announced. The jury had only been dismissed for a short while and they make a statement. They are aggressive so I doubt they haven’t been working on the case. They are whining about silly things.

Or the games they played about putting on the defense case. "We have many options"....drum rolllll - we rest.
