So two things come to mind with this additional info.
First of all - the Red Lion is on 102, and she may have asked for directions because she couldn’t get her phone to give her accurate directions from her location. This tends to happen in a place like Stockbridge where cell service is so...
My humble opinion is that they have some evidence that she is in the river
It is not an excuse, but it must be terribly difficult to search the banks of the river in that area. It meanders like crazy. Maybe they are monitoring the dam/power plant a bit SW of where her car was found.
I’m not a local, but I am pretty familiar with the area. All of this is MOO but based on my knowledge.
The area where her car was found is not far from I-90 and is about a 3 mile walk, as the crow flies, from the Appalachian Trail.
It would be a really strange place to go for a long term...
or to try to conceal the body, or for ease of transport?
there was a pretty awful case here in CT in the late 90s where a teenage girl went missing for months before her body was found rolled up in a rug in a lake. the perps were all late teens/early 20s.
Another comment on far northern NH/VT: I have visited this area and have spent a decent amount of time in northern NY state, which is very geographically/economically similar. The closest Wal-Mart is at least an hour's drive away from Stewartstown. The closest interstate is at least 30 miles...

less likely that you...

I'm in New England and this boy's picture is all over my facebook news feed today - he was also on the news first thing this morning. I think he is getting the exposure he needs around here but I am also not so sure that he is local either.
Weighing in on a couple of things-
Re...
the industrial park on Knotter Drive, where the remains were found, is very close to interstates 84 and 691 - and also pretty close to Cannon's "office" in Plantsville.
per local news, trucker alerted police

Rest in peace, Cynthia - I am...
I've been lurking a long time but this one hits too close to home so I had to register to comment.
As far as potential "motive" - I took a peek at local court records and noticed that this past Tuesday, an order was issued in the foreclosure case on the family's home. I'll try to link it...
