That's exactly what I thought she may have meant.

In my state (MI), I have NEVER heard anyone in this type of situation being referred to as a wife if they are not married. So if Kansas seems so accepting of EG being JH's wife, does that give them spousal immunity against testifying against each other if/WHEN it comes to that. I hope not.
