Identified! NY - Cattaraugus Co., Female skeletal UP6015, Sep'09 - Traci Douglass

I thought I read somewhere that she had just went shopping with a friend? Any chance they could show the boots to her friend? I am thinking she might have got them on sale being the end of winter (and every girl likes to try on her new shoes!) Does anyone know if her and her friend liked to shop at the shoe depot? I think that is where the boots originally came from. Or if there even is a shoe depot nearby where she lived?
=================================

If you are talking about Lutricia Steele,
it was reported early on that she went shopping with
a friend.
There have been some new info about that day,
according to family members.
She lives in Schnectady, NY.

I am unsure if they went shopping.
She had other appointments.
She also 4 children and lived with her mom,
so I don't know if she would have bought
new boots or not.
I will email her sister and ask.
Lutricia S does have a thread on WS.

These boots look VERY familiar to me...as in I remember seeing them in the last couple of years and thinking they were cute and wanting to buy them. Target or Payless, I'm sure of it.

Yes. I remember looking at them too. I'm sure it was Payless, though it could have been Target.

It might have been as recently as last winter and no later than the year before.

(I've been lurking for a while, but this is my first post.)

When I went looking for them the only place that I found that sold "hotcakes" was the shoe depot, and I don't even think that they carry them anymore. I wanted to try to get a hold of the Manufacturer and see what season they were, but I can't find ANYTHING!

Ok I called a Shoe Dept. and talked to the manager. She thought that they were the only store that sold the HotCakes brand. She also said that the boot is actually a childs boot, not adult. She is not sure when that exact season that style was out, but gave me the # to the Shoe Dept. headquarters and thought they should be able to. I will call first thing monday!@!

the boots could be barrowed?
anyway hard to judge time she went missing, but assuming it was closer to fall or Spring due to the boots?

Also shorts?
Mean warm/hot weather
so maybe narrow searches down to warmer weather?

Seems like she may have visited the ERIE area?
It is not too far from there..:waitasec:

There's a Shoe Dept. in Erie, and also one in Bradford, PA, which is just on the other side of the park where she was found. I think signs point to her being from PA, but then again, when I lived in that part of NY, we bought all our clothes in PA because there was no sales tax on clothes...

Cutoffs mean warm weather, but those are serious winter boots. Unless they mean the capri-length jeans that have been in style for the last couple of years?

Here is Lutricia's Charley Project page. It says she told her mom she would be back in a couple hours. She cashed a check and ran some 'personal' errands. She told a friend the day she vanished she thought she was pregnant. She was set to testify in May 2009 against her ex-BF who she accused of raping her. She has several tattoos.

Theresa Waldron: missing: name had been given to Erie Cty Medical Examiner's office:

Per email received from Erie Cty Medical Examiner's office, Theresa Waldron had been found safe, per their contact with Schnectady police.

They are now looking at Sandra Baker. Missing from PA, 2000.

Dreamweaver,

How did you find out that Theresa Waldron was found safe? I sent an email to the Cattaraugus Cnty Coroners Office two weeks ago and they said they were going to look into her... I am glad to hear she was found safe.

Well, if they're looking back as far as 2000 with Sandy Baker, I wonder if they've considered Cindy Song in 2001? She was also wearing beige boots.

State College is kind of far, but not unreasonably so. There's mention of the Smiley Face killer in the description, that the bodies were left in the water, and this JD was in fact found in the water.

Still, I think people who said these boots are newer are right.

Cindy was featured on Unsolved Mysteries. Her disappearence is pretty intriguing.

Hi all - hope you don't mind if I jump in here. I have not participated much in the unidentified forum but would like to get more involved. Identifying the deceased for their families and for the deceased themselves is a very important job which can really make a difference.

I did some searching around for missing women and here are a few I came up with. According the NAMUS the race is unknown.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/burton_sylvia.html (30 yrs old, 5'6, missing since 2003 from Amherst which is only 90 miles from the Allegheny Reservoir). The clothing description is not congruent and Sylvia has some tattoos as well

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/baker_sandra.html (36 yrs old, missing from Delaware Township, PA since 2000, Llast seen wearing jeans and brown boots, she stated to a friend that day she was endanger - seems pretty likely her husband killed her)

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/f/fawcett_michele.html (35 yrs old, missing from westmoreland, PA - Site states PA LE was working with Allegheny LE to see if there were any connections between her disappearences and unsolved homicides in the Allegheny area. She fits the description of the other murdered women as they all had a history of drug use and prostitution)

Sorry - I don't know how to do more than one quote. I am responding to Carbuf's post about Sandy Baker. I posted her charley page a few days ago and thought she was a good match too. I think big issue w/ her is the fact she has been gone for 9 yrs and ME said he didn't think the body had been out longer than 5. I think it is still worth a look-sie though.

The more I check this out the more I think Lutricia Steele should be looked into. The time frame fits, I could totally see her wearing a pair of boots like this. I wish the ME would post if the JD has any tattoos. That would be very helpful.

I did an image search for boots matching this description. Obviously I didn't find an exact match but here are a few that are close. At first I thought the JD boots were generic (like Payless or something) but the more I look at them the more expensive I think they are. The sole, the quality of the embroidery, the stitching on the boot itself, the lining.
I think the first link posted is the closest as far as overall appearence and I think the soles are similar.

Sorry, I dyslexically read the first and the last people in that post and skipped the middle one

I don't think we should eliminate anybody strictly on the basis of tattoos. The description of the remains makes it sound as though there probably wasn't a lot of skin left.
