AL AL - Tarasha Benjamin, 17, Selma, 26 June 2010

Krista - ITA

I read a little more at FB and unfortunately, I must say that it seems as if there is more information that doesn't sound too promising for Tarasha's "safe" return, but like you I hope they can find some answers and/or tips that will lead them to learn where she is and what happened.

Like you stated, the friend obviously knows something about what happened to Tarasha. They had to have met up at some point for Tarasha to get the keys if she was indeed driving the truck. The fact that she was said to have been alone in the friends truck is very worrisome...was this some type of set up by friend or friend of friends? was Tarasha the initial target of someone? I saw comments about "friendS" at the FB link so sounds like there are other friends that possibly and/or should know Tarasha's whereabouts on this day. I pray that they'll find it within them to provide LE and Tarasha's family with some information they have...if they have any.

Prayers to the family and friends of "Pooh"...and prayers that today is the day they get the answers they need to find Tarasha.

Thank you DW, my heart sunk a little bit when I got caught up on this thread and saw the FB pics. :(

Experts join search for missing Selma teenager

A team of two search experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has joined forces with local law enforcement authorities as the hunt continues for a 17-year-old teenager who went missing more than a week ago.

The members of Team Adam are not identified, but generally are representative of retired federal, state or local law enforcement, said Bob Lowery, a spokesman for the center.

The two team members arrived in Selma on Tuesday and met with family members of Tarasha Benjamin, said Angela Benjamin, a Selma City Council member and relative of the missing teenager.

Investigations at waterway in the northern portion of Dallas County led officials to land again as tips evaporated into more questions about the location of missing 17-year-old Tarasha Benjamin.

Both the Selma Police Department and Calera Police Department’s Search and Rescue Unit searched for Benjamin, who has been missing since June 26.

Benjamin was last seen wearing short denim shorts, a white short-sleeve shirt with lime and purple stripes, a silver necklace and silver sandals. She pulled her hair back into a pony tail and has a tattoo on her right arm that says “Pooh,” her nickname.

Officers and rescue members began investigations early Friday morning and continued into the afternoon until leads ran out.

“We’re following up on any lead or any idea that may be able to lead us to either to a safe return of the missing person, or if this turns into a recovery situation, to that,” said William T Riley, Selma police chief.

Bump

Thinking about Tarasha, prayers that she comes home safe and soon.

Still no sign of teen

Nearly three weeks have passed since Tarasha “Pooh” Benjamin left her house to go to a nearby flea market.

Still, experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children continue to work in the search for the 17-year-old Selma teenager.

Linda Benjamin, one of the coordinators of the family efforts to find Benjamin, said the experts, a team of two, have asked the family to discontinue its search and allow the specialists to continue.

But the family continues to gather information, said Angela Benjamin, a Selma City Council member and relative of the missing girl.

“They asked us to keep doing our information search and we’re still collecting data,” the council member said.

According to the Selma-Times Journal, on the morning of June 26, 2010, Tarasha "Pooh" Benjamin woke up early like any other 17-year-old teenager to go to the local flea market with friends. Tarasha checked in often with her mother, Regina Benjamin, so when Regina didn't hear from her daughter she became concerned and reported it to the authorities.

Although Regina Benjamin may have reported her daughters unusual activity early on, it seems as though the Selma Police Department might not have reacted quickly enough. The truck her daughter left the house in that morning was not discovered until Saturday evening. It was left abandoned on the side of the Cecil Jackson Bypass, a major highway. Reportedly, the truck had two missing windows on the driver's side as well as a broken door also on the driver's side.
