ARUBA - Robyn Gardner, 35, Maryland woman missing in Aruba, 2 Aug 2011 - # 2

I wonder if LE has ruled out the possibility that GG & Robyn Gardner came up with a plan to fake her death so GG could collect on the 1.5 mil insurance policy, then the two of them meet up somewhere & split the money? It was reported that GG told customs, as he attempted to fly out of Aruba, that his female companion had left on another flight. LE in Aruba seem to be pretty sure that she is dead, I am wondering what they have found that leads them to that conclusion.

That is exactly what I was wondering as well. If she was a strong swimmer, she could have swum to a different part of the island.

The notion is so obvious, one assumes any LE with even half a brain has thought of it. I wondered myself, when I learned of the insurance. However, the reports of her being groggy that afternoon, the cell phone pics, his nervous attempt to fly out early, etc...all kind of leave me thinking this was not the deal. Also, it just seems hard to believe that a young(ish), attractive, active woman like RG would be willing to "disappear herself", on a more or less permanent basis, from the life she led. No, I think he killed her. It's only a matter of proof at this point.

Please forgive me if this has been asked and answered a zillion times, but can anyone tell me exactly what GVG does for a living? I have followed this pretty closely from the beginning (and I am in Maryland so our local news is heavily reporting on it) but I have yet to see this info anywhere. TIA! :seeya:

I must admit that without a body I've wondered if a boat picked her up off the point and took her to Venezuela or another port. She's vanished...insurance fraud and all that.

Well, like all tourists, he would be unfamiliar with the local emergency procedures. Who would he call? His cell phone (if it worked) wouldnt know, but a local would. It makes sense to ask a local, not punch random numbers into a cell phone and hope you get lucky.

911 is what you dial in Aruba as well, and reportedly he told the person he found to call 911. Cell phones do work in Aruba according to the earlier mentioned website. If his phone didn't work, this will be easy to establish.

I have seen it reported that he owns a business. I have done some searches, but haven't been able to find out more than that. He apparently has an arrest record for larceny, but lives in a million dollar home, so go figure. (Sounds like a politician to me, LOL) If I find out anything more, I will post.

From what I read he owns an employment agency with a gross income of only 80K per year? Something isn't right about that either.

By the way, I would once again like to try to address this notion that "a body" is necessary for a murder conviction. It's not. It is difficult to get a conviction without one, but not impossible. People should consider the case of Ben Smart and Olivia Hope in New Zealand (a case I have been surprised has not been a focus on this board...it is surely one of the most interesting and disturbing cases ever). A man is serving time for a double murder in that case (some think wrongly), and no bodies were ever found. On a similar note, consider even the Scott Petersen case -- while a "body" was found, it yielded absolutely zero information on the cause of death. Didn't even have a head.

I think Taco's "explanation" re Natalee's case was really more like, "we just didn't have the evidence"...but he stated it as "We didn't have a body." Intellectually sloppy, but basically it's an evidence question. As I said on the other thread, evidence comes in many forms, and most people's understanding of the concept is seriously flawed....

early to mid 2010 - Robyn meets GG during this period - CJ

Feb 2010 - Protection order gotten against Gary by a woman named V.P. She was going to file sexual assault charges but decided not to file them. She reportedly was beaten and choked. She was getting harrassed by GG including pornographic pictures of her being put in neighbor's mailboxes (perhaps this is a standard procedure of his - gather blackmail.)

Feb 2010 - Robyn is pursuing a spot on a reality television program.

April 2010 - Police report by a DIFFERENT woman is filed on Gary of sexual assault. Protection order gotten. She also decides not to press charges. Her report included that she had been arguing with Gary about his life as a swinger. His assault included forced sodomy, choking and ignoring her clear statement that she did not want to have sex and was on her period.

June 2010 - Robyn does a photo shoot. Seen in bathing suit with other model.

circa May 2011 A cruise had been planned by GG. Robyn cancelled and GG got very angry. Sent mean texts. - CJ

June 2010 - Police called on a fight between RF and RG.

July 2011 - Robyn sends GG a text "Get me out of here."

Sunday July 31st - RG and GG arrive in Aruba.
On this day another tourist had talked to RG and said that it looked like RG and GG were NOT having a good time. - CJ

Monday Aug 1st - ?

Tuesday Aug 2nd - 2 a.m. Facebook comment left on RF's wall by Robyn: "This sucks."

3 p.m. - Robyn sends RF a Facebook message not to worry, that she loves him and that they will talk and sort things out when she gets back.

4 p.m. - Robyn is last seen. A man who works at Dive Shop near Baby Beach reported seeing their vehicle park up by rocky point close to the water, and wondered why they chose there go snorkeling (secluded area.)

6:02 p.m. - Giordano is seen in surveillance video, tapping on closed shutters of the bar

6:20 p.m. GG headed to the back kitchen of the bar and told someone to call police.

Friday Aug 5th - Giordano arrested at the airport where he allegedly changed his original flight to an earlier one. He had agreed to stay to help the authorities but decided to leave the day after Gardner's mother arrived.

I wonder at the 4 pm sighting was it her that was spotted or the vehicle and just assumed she was in it?

He would be wet if he immediately ran to someone the second he got out of the water, but if he was wandering around for a while wondering what happened to her and trying to figure out what to do, he would be dry by the time he spoke to anyone. It doesnt take long to dry when standing out in the sun.

Remember that there are 2 hours between the time she was last seen and he made his report, that doesn't give much time to do a crime, stash the body so well that no one can find it, and then come back. If he hadn't been to Aruba before, it is hard to see how this could be premeditated. How could he possibly plan it? That means that if there was a crime, it would have to have happened spontaneously sometime after they were last seen in apparent harmony. So, together without any apparent discord., then something happens and she ends up dead. Then he would have to hide the body so that even the locals can't find it, then he would have to stage a drowning. All in 2 hours???

The time frame just does not add up to a homicide. If he had done that you would have expected him to not report it for some time so that he would have a bigger window to clean up.

I don't buy it. This seems like just a tragic accident to me, but because of the Natalie Holloway affair, the Aruban authorities are hyper sensitive about beign seen as not pursueing things. To convince me they are going to have to come up with some real evidence, not "well, this doesnt look right".

I'd be interested to know if one can swim or snorkel with a hair piece such as he has.

Nice work. Can anyone add the time/date of the original flight out, and the time/date of when he tried to fly out?

IMO, the Arubans never intended to prosecute Joran, whether they had a body or not, whether they had evidence or not. Judge Paulus van der Sloot stopped them in their tracks, and now they have egg on their faces, since Joran killed again. LE is probably being overzealous now with RG's case, to save face. Not that I think that is a bad thing. If GG did murder her, he deserves the worst punishment they can dish out to him.

That in itself is suspicious if he actually did say his travelling companion was "taking a later flight". Why if she was missing, would he make that statement?

:waitasec:

I am going out on a limb.... They went there for a photo shoot. He being the photographer and she being the model. I don't know what happened, but something happened. Whether it had to do with what they went there for who knows. I think that's how he makes money,I think they knew each other from this "work" and she just recently lost her job in a dentist office, so she would need some money.

The water looks calm. His hair does look like it's been wet. He doesn't look like he just lost someone, he looks like he just killed someone and is wondering what the hell the photographer is doing taking his photo. MOO.

Now I know why she said "this sucks"

What kind of interrogation techniques do you think he is getting right now? Is he also being interrogated by an FBI agent? Do you think there is a chance he could be gotten to confess?

NO, I don't think he will confess
