GUILTY Bali - Sheila von Wiese Mack, 62, found dead in suitcase, 12 Aug 2014 #5

More nonsense with regards to the jail break out, questions about how it happened, and the responses from Tonny Nainggolan, the supposed new tough jail warden. And it appears that the tunnel was not dug by anyone, it's been there all along.

All four escapees are foreigners but none of the authorities involved in their prosecution and incarceration appear to know where their passports are located.

Jail Governor Tonny Nainggolan says the jail does not have their passports.

[...]

The Corrections chief of Bali’s Law and Human Rights Ministry, Surung Pasaribu, says the Ministry does not have the passports, nor does Immigration and nor do the Prosecutors.

Mr Pasaribu went on to say that Davidson is an expert in making fake identities. Not strictly correct. He was caught in possession of another Australian man’s passport, which he was using but he didn’t make it.

He found it in a hotel and later paid a local in Bali to create a false visa for him in a different name.

[...]

How did the so-called escape tunnel exist for so long without anyone in authority knowing about it? And why, if it was used to escape, was there no fresh dirt dug around its entrance?

Jail Governor Tonny Nainggolan admits he didn’t know there was a tunnel at that location, despite passing it at least once a week. He thought it was a septic tank.

[...]

Why didn’t any of the jail’s CCTV cameras capture anything of interest to the escape investigation?
And why did authorities initially say the cameras were not working, then say they were?

According to Mr Nainggolan all 25 of the jail’s CCTV cameras were working at the time but the one camera in the vicinity was not focused on the tunnel.

The tunnel exited on a busy road right beneath a guard tower. But the guard tower was unmanned at the time and no-one saw anything in that area.

Mr Nainggolan says the guard tower in question was not manned due to staff shortages at the overcrowded jail.

Only 10 guards were working at the time of the escape, monitoring 1378 prisoners and there were not enough guards to staff all control towers. Hence the CCTV cameras which now appear to have shown nothing suspicious or of any use to the hunt for the four.

(***didn't they just tell ABC news they had 8 guards at all times, 4 on the grounds and 4 in the tower? And this happened after the prisoners were supposedly locked up. So what were the 10 guards doing?)

[...]

Davidson was clearly active on Facebook, including a Live Video chat on May 12 showing him and a fellow prisoner he describes as Bashir, talking live to people on the outside, from what is clearly shown as a cell in Kerobokan.

Mr Nainggolan says authorities are tracking the Facebook page to uncover whether it was updated from inside the jail or whether someone on the outside was updating it for him.

Given he was live chatting to people outside, it seems indisputable that Davidson was in control of the page from his cell in a jail where electronic equipment, mobile phones and the internet are contraband, except in workshop areas.

Well, this is a bit embarrassing for a relatively new prison administrator.

I imagine there will be a sweep, but probably only on the men's side. The head of the women's prison is probably busy advising and mothering her most notorious inmate.

It's interesting that the Australian guy seems to prefer Kerobokan to an Aussie jail. The business with the fake passport/visa so he wouldn't get deported suggests that it isn't that easy to live illegally in Indonesia. I noticed in earlier posts that the authorities made sure Schappelle Corby was escorted to the airport when her parole was up.

I just hope that these are signs that HM will be escorted directly from Kerobokan the the airport when her sentence is up. I think she better enjoy her years of drama and freedom, because I don't think she's going to enjoy US federal prison nearly as much.

Yes, I've read some articles that suggest that Davidson was asking people how he could work it to stay in Kerobokan longer. He had already refused to pay the fine that would have gotten him out in a year instead of 18 months. Someone claims that they told him to break out so he'd be sent back and face more time. Ironically that isn't the case however since there is no extra charges or sentences for escaping. Might explain why they've had a large number of escapes from various prisons across Indonesia recently. Which has lead to some investigations. In one prison, they found a "paid for" cell with air conditioning and even an aquarium!! It was being paid for and used by a major drug lord. The prison warden was duly fired. LOL

Shaun Davidson also has another facebook account and has been posting privately that he's in Amsterdam.

This is kind of an interesting read about how the 'Foreign Correspondent' team got access to Kerobokan. Originally, Samantha Hawley wanted to 'embed' with the women and actually live with them for a few days. She thinks part of the reason they got access is because they didn't mention specific prisoners. The prison officials wanted a piece that emphasized the crowded conditions and short staffing.

I found this bit interesting, because as we know, Hawley never got any access to the women's side.

We had always expected to film in the female section of prison, but in the end the permission was not granted.

The male and female sections had just been segregated and the women's Governor would not allow us in.

It was a shame because with far more limited space, the women have it a lot tougher than the men in Kerobokan.

Apparently Ms Hawley hasn't seen the IG and Facebook accounts of some of the other "ladies" in Kerobokan. The end of Ramadan feast on the ladies side was quite the spread and everyone looked very happy and healthy, including HM and Raphael. Not to mention the daily selfies and group shots of them all having a great time.

More interesting quotes from someone who spent time in Kerobokan and is talking to the press about his time with the men who escaped.

The man said Davidson’s popularity extended beyond the prison walls.

“He had a lot of visitors, a lot of people came to see him, a lot of Indonesian girls. He was pretty popular with the ladies,” he said.

“He was always sending out SOS calls for food and people would always be bringing him things. I didn’t ask too many questions about who this person or that person was who came to see him because it’s not something you do. You wait for (fellow prisoners) to tell you, you don’t ask too much.”

Ah...the advantages of having internet in prison

He said the subject of breaking out had come up many times in conversation between himself, Iliev, Davidson and Tee, who was nicknamed “Apollo” in Kerobokan.

“We called him Apollo because that’s how his name sounded when he said it,” the man recalled. “Apollo was pretty disgruntled at the seven-and-a half year sentence he got for being caught with such a small amount of shabu (ice), I mean he was a user, not a trafficker, and he was pretty upset because (authorities) wanted $150,000 (in exchange for a reduced sentence) and he didn’t have the money.

Hmm....$150,000 buys you a reduced sentence? Who'd have thunk it? ;)

The man said he was able to get on the prison’s cooking school program and regularly served up his creations to Davidson.

“I used to cook Shaun dinner every night. Towards the end Apollo was spending a lot of time with Shaun and you know, it’s easier to cook for two or three people than just one person.

“I would drop off his dinner every night and he would flick me a few dollars. I made things like chicken stir fry, and pasta or sometimes I‘d do chilli con carne and we had a rice cooker and a (portable stove) that one of the other prisoners would lend us.

“Towards the end we were eating really well. I was doing mashed potato and people would send in roast chickens and hams and I had a bikie mate who used to bring me steaks all the time.”

Steaks cooked up on a portable stove that one of the other prisoners lent them?!!? :notgood:

"The former prisoner said that because prisoners had no access to refrigeration to keep the meat fresh, he would cook up the steaks all at once and give them to prisoners who didn’t have the contacts or the money to have food delivered.

“I used to give away a lot of food to the prisoners who were a long way from home, like the Russians — they never had any money — and in return they would do my washing.”"

Wonder if TS got any of those steaks. It doesn't seem as if he has much, if any, money.

Ha! I am guessing he is envious! In one of his long letters, TS mentioned that he had lost weight and HM was gaining weight. I think food is a sore spot with him.

I bet he might even be willing to eat Kentucky Fried Chicken now if someone offered it. I don't think he's got much money, and I think what he does have goes on his cellphone and sometimes drugs. In the few photos we've seen of him, he doesn't seem to hang out with the foreign guys much.

Hard to say what's happening with TS but we do know that he was housed in the foreigner section at least until Stella left the prison. I would imagine KW is able to scrape up a few hundred bucks a month to keep him housed, clothed and fed. And the charity groups that seem to love to "do good" in that prison would likely help him out as a foreigner. It's his own behaviour that determines how well he can be doing and I get the feeling he's being considered less than a model prisoner right now. Since HM seems to be so "popular" amongst the guards, I'd imagine that is one area where he is also having trouble. If HM's got issue with him then the guards probably do too.

And FWIW,I don't think he had an issue with being fed KFC, I think that was all HM in her indignant righteousness as a "millionaire heiress" who was being treated poorly while this little matter was being sorted out by her legal team and trying to throw down the race card. (Along with the sexual assault and being drugged accusations)

I think he's continuing to have a much worse time than HM. She can still kid some ignorant people that she's somebody and that she might somehow win all her court battles and get her hands on some of her mother's money someday.

I doubt that KW has much to send him. She used up a big chunk of the ******** money going to Bali with her friend to try to get Stella. That money is long gone. I think I also read at some point that she was trying to file for bankruptcy.

I think his real misery is realizing his life is basically over. He'll do most of his 18 year, and now he knows he's almost certainly going to get out, go home, and face trial all over again, probably for an even longer sentence. Stella will be an adult and a stranger when he gets out of Kerobokan.

Meanwhile, he knows HM has already been in jail almost three years - she has less than five years to go! I think you're right. she's been smart enough (and rich enough) to curry favor with the guards - and she sucks up to the new female head of the women's prison. She's everybody's party girl. Interestingly, HM never seems to hang around with the western women. Unlike TS, I think HM still thinks she'll beat the federal rap in the US somehow.

Anyone else been following the escape of 4 foreign male prisoners from Kerobokan on Monday?

Two of them were found in a luxury resort in East Timor, 1100km away. How they managed to get there and where they got the luggage and money to check in is anyone's guess. LOL The other two are still on the lam. One is an Australian who only had 10 weeks to go on his sentence. Rumour has it that he did not want to be deported at the end of his sentence because he's facing a lengthy sentence in Australia for other charges. They sent another two prisoners down the escape tunnel that the escapees dug to see if they had gotten stuck in there and drowned because it was full of water. Because of the danger, there was no way they were sending prison guards! hahaha The whole story is actually quite comical to follow...well to me anyway. :giggle:

Do you think she will try to stay there after release?

I couldn't get that link to work, but Thailand would probably be a good place, as long as they don't extradite. I bet TS wishes he was tagging along.

I had not heard about KW filing for bankruptcy.

I think HM thinks staying on in Indonesia after she is released is an option. I don't think it is. I think she will be extradited like Schappelle Corby: they won't just tell her it's time to go, they will escort her to the airport and make sure she leaves.

One wild card: it is possible that HM could apply for a renewable resident visa of some sort if she has an Indonesian sponsor (Oshar) or if she's married to an Indonesian.

I don't know if marrying an Indonesian would protect her from being extradited when she gets out. It might offer an opportunity for lengthy slow court battles - except HM really doesn't have the $ to fight those battles and it doesn't appear she's going to be getting it any time soon.

If an Indonesian woman came to the US and murdered her Indonesian mother, I don't think a quickie marriage to a US citizen could prevent her from being deported. I can't be certain it works that way in Indonesia.

According to the Daily Mail, the "seedy town" in Thailand that some of these fugitives head to is probably a lot more dangerous than just hanging out in Kerobokan or even an Australian prison and just doing his time until he's a free man.

KW filed for bankruptcy back in 2011. There has been no indication that she has not managed to keep herself afloat financially since then. I understand that she used the money to pay for her trip over to Bali to see her son and her granddaughter and to try to convince HM to let her take Stella back to the US. IMO, that was money well spent and was just what she needed to do so I have no issue with that. It's unfortunate she was dealing with an evil witch and had to return alone but at least she understands what TS is talking about when they discuss things now. So I do believe that she is able to send some money to her son and likely does. IMO, there is no way she's just letting him suffer over there without some funding. Someone paid for him to live in the foreigner section for 21/2 years. He's likely back there now after his banishment/punishment.

TS had the opportunity to speak with the ABC news crew about his situation and obviously chose not to for some reason. Or he did and all of his interviews ended up on the cutting room floor. I'd love to know which it is. But he did allow them to film him meditating/praying, which is what has been claimed he does...a lot. He's definitely losing it over there.

The more I think about it, I can definitely see HM marrying an Indonesian for 'business' purposes, ie, in hopes of strengthening her case for an Indonesian visa. I can also see an Indonesian guy marrying HM. A guard might think he is marrying a famous American celebrity who has, after all, been on international TV and the news as an heiress. A more ambitious local guy might like the idea of marrying an American woman and getting a ticket to the US.

I can not only see her marrying an Indonesian, I can see her deliberately getting pregnant with a child that would probably have Indonesian citizenship.

Rats. Just when I've made up my mind that she's not going to escape punishment in the US, I find myself thinking of all the ways she might still manage to beat the system.

Thai police think he's in Pattaya, Thailand - a particularly seedy area. If this is true, then how did he get there? Yes, I bet TS is wishing he'd gone too However, the latest news is that two of the escapees were caught at a resort in East Timor, some 2,000 miles away from Bali!
