Branson Missouri hit by Large Tornado 2/29/12

KFVS: 3 killed in southern Illinois tornado

Our sister station, KFVS in Cape Girardeau has received reports of three people killed in the Harrisburg, Ill. after a possible tornado swept through the area.

Reporter Arnold Wyrick says 35 to 40 homes are destroyed. Emergency crews are looking for three to five missing people. Several people are being loaded into ambulances.

He says he sees mattresses hanging from trees. He says the windows and doors have been blown out of the Wal-Mart in town. Several businesses are destroyed on the south side of town.

In the meantime....

MIke Seidel with the weather channel is standing out in the middle of a blizzard with 50mph winds in Duluth, MN. The wind is blowing so hard he cannot stand up straight. He said the snow is stinging his face like the sand does during a hurricane. IMO, he needs to go inside!

OMG - those poor people! I'm having flashbacks to our F-1 and F-4 tornadoes last April here in Tennessee. Nothing prepares you for that.

That is a bad looking line of storms - Take cover! Get in a basement, bathroom, closet - whatever you have. And one thing I learned last year - put on your shoes in case you have to walk over broken glass or metal.

Dr. Fessel, Thank you for staying up all night and keeping this thread updated.

Right before bed I read that the area was going to get slammed with a severe snowstorm. Did anyone have warnings about tornados? Early in the year for this, but the weather has been so odd.

I've been checking for recent updates and live feeds on national news sites. There is very little being reported.
 
Is there any news about Thousand Hills Golf Club/Condos in Branson? 2 of my uncles and their wives live in the condos on the course there. TIA

This link shows damage in Lamar, Mo., as well. I have many cousins there. :( I'm not getting through to anyone on the phone.
 
n/t: Wichita is just to the south of Hutchinson. They probably got a storm, but I'm not sure - check their local news online. I have relatives in Topeka, Abilene, and Shawnee but haven't heard from them yet.

The weather now for Tennessee and Western NC has a two-day hazardous warning for storms and hail, with tomorrow possibly being the worst.
