Bulgaria - Lars Mittank, 28, German tourist, Varna airport, 8 July 2014

In this video, it states that according to people outside the airport, Lars climbed over a fence and ran off into the woods. It starts at about 8:43.

An interesting comment made by a BH 5 months ago. States she / he is Bulgarian and followed it on the news, that his mother hired private detectives, and that the Golden Sands where Lars and his friends stayed is known for drugs, including registered cases of drugs in drinks. Wish I could back this up with something from MSM, I did find a news video but it's in Bulgarian or German and I have no idea what they're saying. :/

That's why I wonder if he's just living in the woods now. He wasn't forced to go anywhere.

Although this video is not in English, it is still comprehensible through the visuals, and of course Lar's mom anguish is understandable in any language. imo.

Dear Sandra...mother.....bless you! Wish I could have done more.....

This probably has nothing to do with Lar's disappearance, but noting just in case it is relevant in some small way, fwiw.

Young Danish tourist dies in Bulgaria

Cause of death at popular resort still under investigation
June 24th, 2016 12:10 pm| by Ray W

It remains unclear what caused the death of a young Danish tourist on a youth holiday to the popular Bulgarian tourist spot Golden Sands in Varna.
“There are many different interpretations and stories,” he said. “The doctors have not given a cause of death and I do not want to speculate.”
rbbm.

A 48-year-old German tourist was found dead in a hotel room in the resort "Golden Sands" on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast near the city of Varna. His skull had been smashed

Just a theory, the guys Lars got in a fight with drugged him with something, contributing to his paranoia, with possible hallucinations and delusional thinking. Though it's possible that a certain amount of paranoia may have been appropriate, he wouldn't have gone off the deep end if he hadn't been drugged.

According to Wikipedia, organized crime is quite prevalent in Bulgaria. I wonder if Lars got on the wrong side of the wrong people. Do we know if the guys he got in a fight with were ever found and questioned? I don't remember reading anything about that.

Also, here it states that Bulgaria is a gateway country for the transit of illicit drugs.
And Varna is one of the entry points used for controlled substances.
ATM skimming and credit card fraud are also a big problem in Bulgaria.

Cannot help but wonder if Lars was not just being paranoid and really was frightened of some people. Wonder if his passport was ever retrieved and if perhaps he was stalked by someone who wanted to steal or copy his passport?
A German passport might be a hot commodity in Bulgaria, perhaps useful to sell to someone who may even look similar to Lars.
imo, speculation.

Why was he holding his left butt cheek when opened the door running out. That first sprint was a run for your life. Was he checking for his wallet and phone or was he injured. I noticed a limp or gait walking in but possibly due to luggage?

Thinking that the luggage was heavy because later he ran like an athlete, maybe he was holding change or keys in his pocket and put his hand there to stop them falling out?
Maybe double checking that he was in fact missing something?
imo, speculation.

Ms Mittank is captured entering the airport and calming walking through the building, luggage in tow. Shortly after arriving, he visited the airport clinic. The doctor later told police that the German, who still had his suitcase with him, seemed fine for the first few minutes of the consultation. This changed when a person described as a “construction worker” walked into the clinic and Mr Mittank suddenly freaked and ran out.
He is captured on camera bolting through the airport, minus his bags, and out through the entrance into the carpark area, never to be seen again.
About a year later, a Bulgarian truck driver came forward to report having picked up a “dishevelled-looking” hitchhiker some months earlier. He had since seen missing person posters erected by police and now believed the man could have been Lars Mittank.
Police were unable to track down the man and Mr Mittank remains missing.
His family still believe he is out there and injured, possibly having lost his memory and has set up a website for people to report sightings of him to.

I don't know if it's just me but his running looks a bit casual for me. He's in hurry as long as he's inside, but as he passes the door he's slowing down and just running, like someone who forgotted something or realised that hr really want to check or but something fast but it totally doesn't look like running from danger, especially in second part.

Odd that he ran off without his possessions. Says to me there was something off going on in his head.

Also, I wonder about the "construction worker" that showed up in the doctors office. Could he have been following Lars, trying to intimidate or threaten? Seems strange to me.

How come that the video's in this thread are not working anymore?

I watched the film of the disappearance of Lars on the German television on the Facebook site 'Findet Lars Mittank'. It's in German language and not translated in English like some other YouTube films about this case. I couldn't find a transcription (yet?) There is much more detailed information told by his mother there. She spoke to him several times by phone during the night and in the morning of his missing. She says that de doctor Lars first saw gave him some kind of antibiotic (which is forbidden in Germany) and can, in some casus, cause hallucinations. The so called "construction-worker" was according to the doctor of the airport clinic a male passenger service agent or the like (someone who is working on the airport) dressed in uniform. If I'm correct Lars was almost 40 minutes inside the clinic (and a few minutes in the doctors room and peaceful according to the doctor), before he suddenly took off (have to watch the film again, to be sure) Also according to his mother, during the night when he went to the airport he was disorientated.

That's guy has different ears, it's not him.

I wasn't able to find any image in good solution, just this one:
https://www.allmystery.de/i/ta92848_pxr4zvnt.jpg
but ears are different and it;s harder to say, but in my opinion that nose is also different.

Yeah I don't think it's him at all. Just can see how he resembles him. But this person looks older and more darker skin toned.
