OMG. The trophies were headed for the curb. There must be more. He was actually throwing those out. He must have thrown other souveniers out too.

(BBM)

I'm not so sure. Didn't LE find souvenirs from crimes several months, maybe even years back? Why throw out some and not all? JL's murder was less than two weeks before his arrest. He must have felt some concern that the evidence might eventually be discovered.

(RSBM)

He then directed police to boxes of so-called trophies — more than 600 women’s undergarments — in his Edison Avenue home. These boxes were in the garage and bound for the curb, but garbage day was four days away from his Sunday arrest.

I think he wasn't being very smart here, waiting four days (or longer) for garbage pick-up. Had I been in his shoes, I would have taken the whole kit and kaboodle to the dump myself.

He also directed police to other hidden keepsakes, including videos and photographs taken during the sex crimes.

So, can we assume that these were not in the boxes from the garage? Were they stored in the house? On his computer?

Hopefully, we'll find out more about this during the week.

He didn't pitch his few years worth of trophies into the previous Thursday's garbage collection, so maybe the road check of Thursday, Feb 4 was the precipitating factor in that decision.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/accused-colonel-told-interrogators-he-was-distressed-by-death-of-his-cat/article1760854/

At the time, he had murdered two young women by suffocation, beaten and tied up two of his neighbours before photographing them naked, and stolen about 500 items of lingerie and clothing from the closets of unsuspecting women. But one of the things that had been most distressing for him, he confided to his interrogator, Detective Sergeant Jim Smith, was the death of his old black and white cat, Curio.

But according to several sources, the only two possible hints the former air base commander has ever let slip about why he went on his after-dark, misogynistic rampages – the passing of his cat and his chronic joint pain – will leave everyone wanting.

I don't tweet, but Timothy Appleby from The Globe and Mail, has his event live and up and running now here, and, Megan from The Ottawa Citizen did a good job tweeting from RW's 1st live appearance, and she is the one that went to the Judge that day, to try and allow the tweeting, so I would imagine she will have extensive coverage, and I will link when I find it. I checked the other day, but, she didn't have anything.

It's a freaking madhouse in town today. Never in my life have I ever seen anything like this. We are avoiding downtown like the plague. You would not believe the people.

I modified my signature to include the live blogging links to the nationals covering the story, hope it helps.

Is a glass enclosed prisoner box standard in the court, or is it provided just for certain cases? I have never thought about it before.

A glass enclosed prisoner box is generally used for high profile trials such as this to ensure the safety of the prisoner.

Jill Mahoney - The hearing is expected to begin at 10 a.m. ET.

Dozens of photographers and cameramen jockeyed for position on ladders, propped up in an effort to allow the journalists to peer over a portable security fence that has been erected to guard Col. Williams from the public.

By 6:30 a.m. ET, about 50 reporters were lined up at the courthouse, waiting to enter the courtroom. At 7 a.m., journalists were allowed in under tight security and filled half the courtroom as well as an overflow room where they will watch the hearing by video. The other half includes seating for families of the victims.

Police take the handcuffs off a very subdued Williams. Now he's talking to his lawyer

Williams, dressed in a black suit and wearing handcuffs, is walking to prisoner box. Room is silent.

The hearing has begun

Police have set up large maps at the front of court

Everyone stands. The judge has just arrived

The Crown is speaking with the judge about a publication ban

The map at the front of the court shows several Ottawa neighbourhoods

Many photographs will be shown in court today
