“I was shocked and saddened to learn of tonight’s tragic situation in Moncton,” said New Brunswick Premier David Alward in a statement.

George LeBlanc, the mayor of Moncton, called on members of the public to stay inside their homes as police searched for the shooter.

“Terrible sad news for Moncton,” LeBlanc tweeted. “Prayers for the families.”

Const. Damien Theriault said police were urging people in the area to stay inside their homes and lock their doors. “We’re advising people to stay inside until further notice,” Theriault said.

Njoku said the shootings were “unbelievable” in Moncton, a city of 70,000 people in southeastern New Brunswick.

“This is a very safe neighbourhood, a small city,” Njoku said

It was when they said that previous charges were from 'out of state' that I realized I was wrong.
