Wonder if LE did get a big response to the plea for the identities of the potential witnesses seen in the gazebo?
If so, could they be close to naming a suspect?

I doubt it. They waited so long to release the video, no one remembered anything is my guess. Closer to the time of the murder and they may have gotten some information.

During the early morning hours of August 30, 2010, Sonia VARASCHIN, who was 42-years old at the time, was brutally murdered in her residence on Spring Street in Orangeville.

Since this date, a Multi-Jurisdictional Major Case Management (MCM) investigation, led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with the assistance of the Orangeville Police Service (OPS) continues to follow up on all information and tips received from the public.

Part of the investigation has been focusing on analyzing video evidence obtained by police from around the various crime scenes relating to this murder.

Investigators are releasing a surveillance video taken of a gazebo located in Alexandra Park off of Second St and First Ave. The park is situated behind the Orangeville Town Hall and is in an area very close to where Sonia's vehicle was left in the early morning hours of August 30, 2010.

The video depicts two people in a gazebo prior to them walking away at about 5:58 am on August 30, 2010. Police would like to identify these individuals to speak with them.


Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Orangeville Police Service Tip Line at (519) 941-2522, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you wish to remain anonymous.

Profile of perp in case Sonia:
Detective Inspector Mark Pritchard of the OPP said that the Beechgrove Side Road in the town of Caledon, where Ms. Varaschin’s body was found, is a location that the offender “maybe comfortable with and is likely known to him whether as a result of recreation, occupation, or illegal activity.”

He also said that in the days following the murder the killer may have displayed behaviours seen as out-of-the-ordinary by those who interacted with him, including unexplained absences from his usual activities, such as missing work, school or appointments.

The killer may have increased his alcohol or drug use and may have been irritable, agitated or anxious.

One day, probably when we least expect it, LE will announce that they have made an arrest, imo.
What I wonder is, when that time comes, will we all be shocked at the identity of the suspect?

I would be "shocked" if the perp had no personal reason to choose Sonia but knew her coincidentially and took out his frustration on her. Maybe in her appearance Sonia was the type of woman who was his frustration and inner conflict, but only as a substitute for the real reason of his problem (perhaps a male person). Who knows. I have to wait like you.

Sonia worked at a camp for a few years. It is not impossible to conceive that she first encountered her killer there. This same individual can be linked to the Audrey Gleave case as well.

This is a very conceivable theory Pink Panther.

As many know - this 'individual' was arrested in Florida for child internet luring - arrested at a gas station following a prearranged meeting after 'chatting' with LE rather that a minor. What we never learned - what was he driving when arrested? IE a 2010 Camaro per chance? The guy is Canadian - how did he travel to his new job at an equestrian location in Florida?

Could be a scout or a participating teenager or a doctor or a riding instructor or .....?

Yes, that is well possible. Perhaps this PSW coincidentally lived/lives near Sonia (re the theory why he drove her away from her home).
