GUILTY Canada - Taylor Van Diest, 18, beaten to death, Armstrong, BC, 31 Oct 2011

I wonder if many trains pass that area, and if so, could a "travelling transient" be responsible?
In a small town, surely someone remembers somebody being intoxicated and angry ,or possibly showing up with scratches..

That concert took place Saturday, October 29, 2011, 8:00 pm - 2:00 am

Taylor was attacked on Halloween , Monday evening, October 31st

I know, Hazel. People can hang around after raves and such gatherings and start other ones. I'm not sure if this was a rave or some other type of festival.

The fairground is (Park Dr/Adair St) if Taylor had gone North/East from where she was found, she'd go thru empty lot, across Poole st, thru some trees -I think it would be too dark to do that, so alternative route would be to continue on Pleasant Valley Rd. Google map- (thanks Hazel)Taylor was found by a trail that comes from the railroad tracks.
- dotr - i wondered about the trains, dunno. We have one coin laundry in town, sometimes in the middle of the day, somebody might be sleeping it off on the fold your cloths table.
And thats ok, its accepted, the town has its hard luck people, we do not phone the cops. It's weird but i kinda like it. But transients, Armstrong seems a place thats a stop on the way to Vancouver. This is the time of year people are travelling warm, west.

Thanks for the video link dotr. Is it snowing in BC already?

Has anything been said about forensics? DNA evidence on her, her clothes, crime scene?

Nice video. Still, i don't to know why was she was at the railroads tracks?
The place she was at -you can see a train either way, trains would have to slow. thats how i order my takeout -on the nasty corner- my neighbors on each side - they have blind spots - i can see both ways.
I can not see how Taylor would be near the railroad tracks, unless she took a diffenrt route, or went that way - cause its in the opposite direction of the fireworks,

They could of blocked the roads that nite. If they are going to hitch hike out -it would be that nite - or day lite hours next couple of days

Behavioural specialists --they need to check the small towns (Vancouver bound) for muddy, bloody hitch-hikers or they are local, - after the fire works it would be easy to get rides. You could be bloody but it is Hallowen, and i lived really rural for awhile and at such events, easy to get a ride out of town.

Yoo-Hoo.. Hate to bug but when someone has a moment could you correct what's got the margins blown??.. Sorry.. Normally wouldnt even ask but being via mobile with blown margins the words are so very tiny and spread way out..

TIA to anyone that can repair it:)

RCMP Say Van Diest Murder Probe Could Be Longterm

Behavioural specialists called in to build profile of killer or killers

North Okanagan RCMP concede they are preparing for a lengthy investigation into the murder of 18-year-old Taylor Van Diest of Armstrong

Well that sure is discouraging! It doesn't sound like they have any solid leads.
:(

Just spotted this bit of local news in the area and thought it peculiar enough to take note of here.http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story-66959-26-.htm
Hair cut, smokes stolen during attack

by Wayne Moore - Story: 67005

Police in Salmon Arm took a 15-year--old boy into custody after he allegedly attacked a girl about 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, November 4.

RCMP say they received a report a 15-year-old female had been attacked by a the boy.

During the attack, cigarettes were taken from the girl and scissors were used to cut her hair.

JMO but I'm feeling that young people are involved with this.

To the young people who found the phone on the tracks, when you found it at around 7:30 pm, wasn't it dark out yet? Is this path near the train tracks lit?

It's my understanding that she was walking a commonly used route towards a path that crossed over the tracks. Right at the tracks, she was attacked. I can understand why this investigation is currently at a dead end ... it could be anyone. It could be someone that knew her, someone that followed her, someone that was hanging around that area ... anyone. If the person is local, I suspect the investigation will move more quickly. If it is someone that was in town for the weekend, that person could have gone East or West and be long gone. Hopefully there is some DNA evidence.

In fact, since the path was known to locals and the attack was near the path, it would almost suggest that the person was not local and that he (I'm assuming a he) did not know that she would be found so quickly. It would be interesting to know where the phone was found ... have we heard that? I'm curious about how far the phone was taken from the crime scene.

In any case, I suspect that this person will do this again. I think the investigation should widen and police should be broadcasting in cities directly East and West to ask people to keep an eye out for anyone that was in Armstrong on that weekend and who acted a little out of sorts after returning Nov 1.

Otto, the phone was found around the same area where Taylor was found, so not that far away. Once the family and friends were told where the cellphone was found, they started looking for Taylor in that area, and it was Taylor's bf who discovered her.

What IMO makes the investigation even more complicated, is the fact that it was Halloween night, and IMO it could be possible the perp(s) was also in costume! If it was someone wearing a long coat or cloak, a mask, wig, and/or heavy makeup, I'm thinking that perhaps Taylor was not initially that scared, maybe thinking it was one of her friends, and laughing it off, hence her "I'm being creeped" message, instead of a "Help"..... all just my humble opinion.

So it's possible that as she was sending the message she was attacked, which would explain why the spelling was somewhat off or incorrect. She may have dropped her phone at that moment. That could pinpoint exactly where the attack occurred, but I suppose it woudn't tell us much if it was close to the body ... other than she was perhaps dragged a short distance away.

"night in the small B.C. community of Armstrong.

With no suspects, the behavioural specialists are looking at the circumstances of the teen's murder and where it happened before putting together the profile, police said.

RCMP hope it will focus their attention on an aspect they hadn't thought of since the slaying.

``We need a break in this case so this community and family can start the healing process,'' said RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.

Officers are continuing to knock on doors, asking questions that may elicit a key piece of information they need. They're following up 125 leads, and concentrating on criminals they know and names people suggest"

"Friends said her last text message was ``I'm being creeped.'' They believe someone was stalking her as she walked along an unlit section of the tracks and beat her over the head."
