CANADA Canada - Valerie Leblanc, 18, Gatineau QC, 23 Aug 2011

"I told myself there is a very small minority of creeps in the world," said Louie Auriat. "They are distributed all over the world."
Still, the many paths and shaded areas of the 363 square-kilometre park can make it difficult for police to find suspects.

There have been multiple reports of naked men in the park over the last few years, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

In June, two women responding to an ad for a photo shoot were told there was a naked man masturbating in the bushes who later started to follow one of the women.

Police also assigned undercover officers to walk the park's trails a few years ago after multiple reports of a male flasher.

Surrounding area and spot where Valerie's body was found is shown in VIDEO clip at link below.

Friends and relatives of homicide victim Valérie Leblanc, a CEGEP student whose body was discovered last week in a forest behind her Gatineau school, are appealing online for witnesses to come forward.

Annie Guidon, one of Leblanc’s friends, created a Facebook page called “RIP Valerie Leblanc.” In the description, she wrote in French, “I hope justice will soon be served.”

Yesterday the group already had 749 members and a Gatineau police detective had posted a dedicated anonymous tip line number — 819-243-2346 ext. 6677 — to the site.

Police have no suspects in the murder of 18-year-old Valerie Leblanc, they admitted Monday, six days after she was found burned and beaten in a forest behind her Gatineau school

OTTAWA — An investigation into the homicide of Gatineau CEGEP student Valérie Leblanc last Tuesday has no ties to an investigation of three attempted abductions in June despite media reports to the contrary, police said Monday.

Reports from some news outlets had said police were looking for links in the two cases.

Gatineau Police ask the public for help in solving murder case

1310News Staff Aug 30, 2011 10:03:25 AM
Gatineau Police set up a command post Tuesday morning near the wooded area behind CEGEP de L'Outaouais campus. It's the scene where the city's first homicide of the year took place.

Police are hoping anyone with any information will drop by in person because they admit they have no leads.

While investigators work around the clock, they are specifically asking anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the area behind the school between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. last Tuesday to come forward.

The command centre will be set up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday.

Meantime, the funeral for Leblanc is being held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Gatineau.

While he could not specify the number of suspects, Harel says the squad is working “night and day” with the Surêté de Quebec and Ottawa police to find answers.
“We are not neglecting anything in this case to make sure we succeed and get our hands on this perpetrator.”

A parallel investigation to determine whether the body was tampered with post-mortem is still in progress. The police will submit a report to the Crown once the investigation is complete, Harel said.
A dedicated tip line police set up for the case is “very active” and members of the public have approached investigators, says Harel. He encourages the public to keep calling and to check the police’s Facebook page for updates.

Police declined to offer any more details on the results of the autopsy, but said it did not appear the body had been moved from another location.

so she had lunch with someone & then went into the woods ... willingly it would seem - to smoke? to hang with a friend? was she tricked by the perp?

she was in class at 10 & seen eating lunch at noon, yet they're asking for witnesses from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., which makes me think they are investigating the possibility of a stranger hanging around campus that morning

The news of no arrest provides little comfort for Huguette Leblanc, Valerie's grandmother, as she prepares for the Aug. 31 funeral.

"We have lots of crying to do," she said, explaining the family hasn't had a chance to properly grieve.

"When you lose somebody, you're in sorrow. You live that, you know, the pain."

Leblanc told QMI Agency she's thankful journalists have been "respectful" when contacting her family.

When the phone rings and a reporter is at the other end, "each time it's like a knife that goes through the heart," she said, crying.

"We need you too, for information."

News of Valerie's murder has spread as far as Europe.

"We have a lot of comfort from people all around the world," she said.

Grade eight and nine students heard a cautious message from their principal when they started classes yesterday at Mont-Bleu secondary school in Gatineau, QC.

“We just want to inform students not to go behind the school area all alone,” said Jocelyn Blondin, president of the Commission Scolaire des Portages-de-l’Outaouais, the public school board that oversees Mont-Bleu, along with three other secondary schools and 28 elementary schools in the region. The remaining 10-12 grades will hear the same message when they return to class today.

RIP Valerie Leblanc.

Gatineau police are holding an 11 a.m. news conference Thursday to reveal new elements in the investigation into the death of 18-year-old Valerie Leblanc.

VIDEO : http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/story/2011/09/01/ottawa-gatineau-murder-update.html

( just from memory) description: wearing a black jacket.... black T-shirt possible red logo on the front ... neglected look, with an attitude .... black mountain bike .... has no beard, no mustache ....

Homicide: no police sketch but a description based on report from the public.

More description chubby face, pointy nose pointy chin, no facial hair, black hair prob. short, suntan, not athletic body type, black jacket, black tshirt, red logo, black cap with rounded visor, attitude is "worrying", he was walking beside his mountain bike when seen. His bike had a straight handlebar.

Not enough of certain details to produce a composite of the witness.

Did several people give the report of this witness? He was spotted close to the scene and description is what people have reported seeing.

Not sure if this witness is scoping the area looking for women (responding to question by a reporter).

Received alot of tips, involved with several police forces in this investigation.
