Found Deceased CO - Amy Ahonen, 38, Golden, 8 July 2011

Hmmm. We live in the Boulder area, not too far from Golden, and hike a lot. I can tell you we never leave our keys and cell phones in the car! We always take our phones, just in case something happens, even though the signal can be spotty in the mountains. We also take ID. Credit cards and stuff are usually with the IDs...
And no way would someone hike at 10PM alone here-there are too many dangerous animals to look out for, including mountain lions, bears, coyotes, snakes and the like. I hope she is OK!

DENVER – 38-year-old Amy Ahonen may not have been alone before she disappeared, FOX31 Denver has learned.

The Denver woman’s Jeep was found abandoned in Clear Creek Canyon, West of Golden Friday night.

But now a witness claims he saw Amy and an unidentified male, “climbing up the embankment from the river” at 2pm on Friday afternoon.

That's interesting, although I wondering if that witness was mistaken. We know a cop contacted her at 10 pm that night, so, if the witness is right, it would mean she was hanging around the river on Highway 6 for 8 hours that day. That would be very unusual, there are almost no homes or any kind of civilization along Highway 6 and Amy lives in Denver, which is far from there. People go that way to get to Central City/Blackhawk, where there is legalized gambling, which is what the witness was doing. But Central City is a long way from where she was last seen. I guess she could have gone up to gamble and then have been coming back. If so I'm sure LE will get surveillance video because the casinos definitely have lots of cameras. Seems like her friends or family would know if she is a gambler though.

Thanks for the info. Seems like they've gone back and forth on that.

Fran posted something interesting in Kenia Monge's thread...Travis Forbes was not in jail at the time of Amy's disappearance. Forbes is the guy who is a POI, and almost certainly responsible, in Kenia's disappearance from the downtown Denver area, and who brutally attacked a woman in her Ft Collins apartment July 5th. He was arrested the night of the 11th when he was seen by police walking with another young woman in downtown Ft Collins, probably minutes away from attacking her. Forbes is a weird guy but maybe not someone who would immediately set off warning signs as a predator to a woman just meeting him. There are a lot of eccentric characters in Colorado so it's not out of the ordinary to meet somebody who seems a little off. I hope Amy disappeared of her own volition but Forbes has been attacking women in the Denver/Ft Collins area. Ft Collins is an hour north of Denver and maybe an hour and a half from where Amy's car was found.

Two sisters of a missing Denver woman held a news conference today outside Denver Police headquarters to ask for the public's help in finding their sister.

~~snip~~

Annette and Andrea Ahonen expressed doubts to earlier reports that their sister had gone hiking, saying her hiking backpack had been left at home.

The sisters also said there had been no indication their sister was depressed or suicidal before her disappearance.

What I find interesting is that in one of the articles I read today, it said the info about her purse etc being in the car, but also her shoes and KEYS.

Now I don't know about anyone else, but I've seen where someone committing a crime and using the victim's car, will leave the keys in the car and the car unlocked in the hopes of someone stealing the car.

PS....it was also noted that the alleged sighting of her and 'someone' is not verified. Her family said her backpack for hiking was at home. So they do NOT feel she went there for a hike.

PPS....if you'll note at the above link of the aricle and video of the victim's sister's newconference, just following that is a video of the POI in the Monge case (out of Denver as well) and the suspect of the Lydia Tillman attack and arson. Just interesting note, imho, fran.......................hope LE is checking into this guy for Amy. :(

That stood out to me as well. Who goes hiking w/o taking her cellphone and keys (locking the vehicle) - especially when your purse is in it? I think she stopped there for a reason. Her friends have said she would help a stranded motorist or a hurt animal any time, any where. Yes, TF should be on that list of suspects, IMO.

I know there a time line for Travis. I go try to find it.

From the attack woman he took her car. so if he involve he could had took her car. But how would he get back to Denver?

The timeline, I think is in Kenia's thread. IIRC, when he was released from jail, he went to his dad's house/farm. He could have used one of his dad's vehicles perhaps?

He met is future roommate in Austin, Texas on Craigslist. I wonder if he corresponded with Amy on Craigslist?

He could have pretended he was a broken down motorist and had a car at the scene. Wonder if anyone else passed there that day and saw TWO cars by the roadside.

OR

He could have abducted her from her residence, done something to her out in that area her car was located, and then hitchiked to where ever!

Where there's a will there's a way. IF he stole that other girls car after he set her apt on fire, he must not have had transportation to her home.

In one of the articles I read the other day, after one of the crimes, the grandmother said 'he couldn't have done that because he rode up on his bike to my home the next day.' ................not exactly word for word, but you get the point.
