The haunting image of a frantic Corrinna Martin on national television two years ago tearfully begging the public for any information on her missing college student daughter is in sharp contrast to the Corrinna Martin today, quietly sitting in the back of a Main Street courtroom, her hands folded on her lap, as she watches jurors being selected for the trial of her daughter's alleged killer...

The court docket says the trial of Jermain Richards is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am on 2/2/15.

State prosecutors ended their case Monday in the trial of a local nurse, accused of kidnapping and dismembering an Eastern Connecticut State University student, with an extreme test of the juror’s stomachs.

Chief State Medical Examiner Dr. James Gill took the witness stand just after the luncheon break and described the grisly remains of Alyssiah Marie Wiley as prosecutors projected photos of the remains on a large video screen.

Mom collapses at sight of daughter’s grisly remains

BRIDGEPORT – For the past two and a half weeks Corrinna Martin has patiently sat on a bench outside a Main Street courtroom spared from the grisly particulars of her daughter’s death.

But Thursday morning, buoyed by the fact that the trial of Alyssiah Marie Wiley’s alleged killer was coming to an end, Martin decided to finally come inside the courtroom and listen to the final arguments. Her attendance was short lived.

Martin stood up screaming in the courtroom as Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Corradino projected a photograph of Wiley’s cut up shoulder bone on a large screen. She then rushed outside the courtroom collapsing on the floor in loud sobs. Several jurors appeared shaken by the incident.

A jury of seven men and five women deadlocked six to six on a verdict in the trial of a local nurse charged with killing and dismembering an Eastern Connecticut State University student two years ago.

“The court is declaring a mistrial,” Superior Court Judge John Kavanewsky announced as the victim’s mother sobbed in the back of the courtroom. “I don’t think any other (instruction) is going to produce a different posture in this.”

The announcement came as the jury was in its fifth day of deliberations. The state is expected to retry him.

I wonder if they'll try him a third time. So sad for her family.
