FL FL - Guma Aguiar, 35, Fort Lauderdale, 19 June 2012

I, too, am amazed that this case has gotten so little attention.

Does anyone know why he was hospitalized in a Psychiatric facility?

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The turbulent seas that may have caused Fort Lauderdale investor Guma Aguiar to vanish last month had another effect: His absence has caused new lawyers to enter the battle over his $100 million fortune, and in one case, a judge questioned why two of Aguiar's legal adversaries wanted to push their lawsuit forward when he's not around to defend himself.

Guma Aguiar, missing millionaire case: Disappearance subject of a lot of theories

Bring up multimillionaire Guma Aguiar's mysterious disappearance at sea and you'll hear lots of theories:

He died in a tragic boating accident, leaving behind a beautiful wife and four young children.

Tormented by psychological illness, he committed suicide.

Or, others suggest, he faked his death to dodge a half-dozen lawsuits pecking at his $100 million fortune.

If Aguiar disappeared on purpose, he may want to note that many have tried in Florida, and most have failed.

Of the religious items found, tefillin is used for morning prayer and High Holidays by Orthodox Jews. Was he planning to be elsewhere in the AM? Could he have planned a spritual "retreat" for himself? I am not Jewish, but have studied it and the tefellin sounds odd to me though.

Aguiar's 'problematic assets' revealed

Ever since he has gone missing, the relatives of Jewish millionaire Guma Aguiar won't stop quarreling over the property he left behind. Now it turns out that his assets include buildings in extremely sensitive places: The Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, the Muslim Quarter and Silwan neighborhood in east Jerusalem.

He suffered from severe bipolar disorder, was arrested several times after bizarre tirades, institutionalized at least twice, and detained involuntarily for psychiatric evaluation under the state’s Baker Act a litany of times.
At the time of his disappearance, he was being treated with various medications by Dr. Scott Segal of North Miami.

“He was very fearful, he felt very alone,” said his mother, who had been trying for years to get him into a reputable long-term mental-health treatment facility. She believes that medicating her son only compounded his mental problems; he needed the kind of treatment that looked more deeply into the root cause.
Clearly she was not very supportive of his need to continue taking his medication.

A collection of Jerusalem properties that boast not just a steep price tag and spectacular view but a little notoriety will soon be put up for sale.

They belong to the estate of Guma Aguiar, the Brazilian multi-millionaire and philanthropist who went missing in June a year ago after heading out to sea in his motorboat off the coast of Florida. The boat was later found without any sign of Aguiar, who left behind a tangle of lawsuits and a family in turmoil.
