A collection of Jerusalem properties that boast not just a steep price tag and spectacular view but a little notoriety will soon be put up for sale.

They belong to the estate of Guma Aguiar, the Brazilian multi-millionaire and philanthropist who went missing in June a year ago after heading out to sea in his motorboat off the coast of Florida. The boat was later found without any sign of Aguiar, who left behind a tangle of lawsuits and a family in turmoil.

Yet to be settled is the estate of the eccentric, Brazilian-born young multimillionaire Guma Aguiar, who divided his time between Jerusalem and Florida and supported numerous organizations and institutions. Aguiar went missing 18 months ago when sailing in Florida. His motorboat washed ashore, but there was no sign of his body. A manic depressive, Aguiar was having marital problems and was also at severe legal odds with his uncle, Thomas Kaplan, with whom he had made his fortune, and there were people who believed that he was not dead – but had simply disappeared to escape the turmoil in his life. His wife and his mother then began fighting over the extensive property that he owned in Jerusalem, which had been transferred to the custody of the administrator-general, and was put on the market last October.

Following his disappearance, a fierce legal battle ensued between his wife and mother for control of his estate. On Friday, the both appeared in court to battle over $12 million worth of real estate in Israel. Guma Aguiar had purchased two dozen pieces of property. Eight of those properties are in dispute.

“We met in high school,” said Jamie Aguiar, his wife who spoke publicly for the first time about what life was like with her husband as she battled his mother in the courtroom over control of the properties.

“When Guma was bipolar, it was horrific and when it was over he would apologize to everyone and me,” said Jamie.

This story is wild! Can't believe I've never heard of this before.
