GUILTY GA - Anthony Hill, 27, fatally shot by Dekalb County LE, 9 March 2015 *Arrest*

It is my opinion that it’s the murder counts the jury is deadlocked on. I wonder what the sentencing possibilities are for the remaining 4 charges.
0 if the verdicts reached were not guilty

It’s likely the Olsen jury is hung up on at least one of the two felony murder counts. They asked Dear Jackson if they find Olsen guilty on Count 4, do they have to find him guilty on Count 2 (felony murder)? Jackson informed them they do not.

Count 4 is the underlying felony to Count 2. In Georgia, if you commit a felony and it leads to the death of another, you can be charged with murder whether the death was intended or not.

Deadlocked: Olsen jury can’t agree on some charges against DeKalb cop

The plea deal he turned down was for 15 years:

State discloses plea offer rejected by ex-DeKalb cop charged with murder

No allen charge to try and break up the deadlock.
One juror has travel plans so has to leave at 3:30. In an hour.
Still waiting.

JOIN Me Saturday 10/12 CNN Live @ 1:30 pm/et with Fredricka Whitfield for My Weekly Legal Analysis discussing on the heels of the Guyger Murder trial now, Dekalb County Officer ROBERT CHIP OLSEN (white) accused of the killing of Anthony Hill (black), a 26-year-old USAF veteran

At least someone is covering it....

Police officer Olsen was 40lbs heavier and 5 inches taller than War Veteran Anthony Hill. Olsen had all his clothes on, Anthony Hill was completely nude, Olsen was completely armed, Hill had no weapons, Olsen knew backup was on the way, Olsen was told Hill was possibly demented. Why didn’t Olsen use his taser instead of his gun. If nothing else Olsen could have tased Hill any where on his body, he was completely nude. How will this jury handle this white cop killing this completely nude African American US Air Force Veteran?

Murder- Not guilty
Murder - Not Guilty
Aggravated Assault - Guilty
Violating Oath of office - Guilty
False statement - Guilty
Violating oath of office - Guilty

Out on bond till sentencing November 1.
No handcuffs.

WOW! Aggravated Assault, guess I need to look up the definition, I thought Anthony Hill died :/

On sixth day of deliberations, Olsen jury delivers split verdicts

October 14, 2019

"UPDATE: After two days off to consider their differences, jurors returned to work Monday morning searching for unanimity on at least some of the counts against former DeKalb County police officer Robert “Chip” Olsen.

It worked. Minutes after 1 p.m., the jurors announced split verdicts.

They found Olsen not guilty on two felony murder counts, sparing him a sentence of life in prison.

But jurors reached guilty verdicts on four lesser felony charges: two counts of violation of oath of office, aggravated assault and making a false statement.

As the forewoman read the verdicts, Chip Olsen began to sob.

His wife, Kathy Olsen, was inconsolable, yelling, “No! No! No!”..."

Ct 2: NOT GUILTY
Ct 3: GUILTY
Ct 4: GUILTY
Ct 5: GUILTY
Ct 6: GUILTY

#OLSENTRIAL Not guilty of counts 1 & 2, MURDER.
GUILTY of aggravated assault, violation of oath, false statement and violation of oath #AnthonyHill
@wsbradi

Aggravated assault carries the highest of the four convictions, and that is a maximum of 20 years behind bars.

As the #OlsenTrial verdicts were being read, Robert Olsen’s wife, Kathy, burst into tears that got louder; she was escorted out and sobbed in a nearby room. #AnthonyHill’s mom, Carolyn Giummo, wept quietly. She says she’s okay—and she’s crying over Mrs. Olsen’s pain
@wsbradio

We are awaiting sentencing decision. The #OlsenTrial defense asks for November 1 & for him to remain free on bond. The State wants it done today, as most of #AnthonyHill’s family lives out of state & is already here; if not, they still want him taken into custody today
@wsbradio

#OlsenTrial Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson sets sentencing for Nov 1. Tells Robert Olsen he will wear an ankle monitor & stay on bond. State says Olsen’s trial bond is moot post-conviction and asks to be heard on issue: “He should be treated like any other defendant”
@wsbradio

#OlsenTrial State calls Carolyn Giummo, #AnthonyHill’s mom, who says she believes Robert Olsen should not be out on bond. “It’s been 4 years. My son is not here. He’s been out. We’ve been waiting a long time”

#OlsenTrial State calls Anthony Hill, Sr. #AnthonyHill’s dad, who says Robert Olsen should not be out on bond. “He’s had plenty of time to get his affairs in order and all this time our family has suffered through this”

#OlsenTrial Prosecutor Pete Johnson argues stridently for Robert Olsen to be taken into custody today for his four convictions in the fatal shooting of #AnthonyHill
@wsbradio

#OlsenTrial Defense says State is making statements “like a closing argument.” Robert Olsen was not convicted of murder so should be allowed to stay free, he argues. Judge Dear Jackson stands by her decision to keep him on bond until his sentencing Nov 1

#OlsenTrial Agg assault max=20. Violation of oath max=5; so is false statement. I’ve heard differing analyses from lawyers on whether Robert Olsen’s charges MUST be merged into the “big” conviction, agg. aslt., or whether they can be consecutive. @epanitch. says all 35 is possible

#OlsenTrial Judge is back on the bench. Agg assault bond for Robert Olsen: $50K cash, property, or surety; $10K each on the remaining three charges. $80K total. Deputy walked him out; no cuffs #AnthonyHill
@wsbradio

Talking to Juror #31 about the #OlsenTrial. He says at times, as many as 6 people voted to convict Robert Olsen of murdering #AnthonyHill, but others—largely along racial lines—flat-out refused ⁦

I think if the jury had been given a lesser option they'd have convicted on it.
Manslaughter maybe.
