A Gwinnett County woman allegedly beat her friend in the head, strangled her to death with an Ethernet cord, and then dumped her body at an abandoned park in July 2013, according to police.
But it would be three months before anyone found the body of 20-year-old Kayla Weil. A cleaning crew found Weil’s remains on Oct. 24, 2013, in a bathroom at the park, which had been closed to the public.
On Thursday, the woman accused of killing Weil appeared in a Gwinnett courtroom, Channel 2 Action News reported. Amy Leann McGarity, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death, false imprisonment, and kidnapping in connection to Weil’s death.

Weil’s body was found wrapped in a blanket inside a bathroom in a closed area of Chestnut Ridge Park in Hall County last October. Investigators believe she was killed three months before at McGarity’s Buford home...
He tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish the two women had been close friends at one point and the motive behind the murder is unknown.
