GZ Case - Defense Perspective

Here is a little problem with the defense.

Testifying today, Zimmerman's father, Robert, a former magistrate, told the court that the day after Martin was killed he saw injuries his son suffered.

"His face was swollen quite a bit," Robert Zimmerman said. "There was a protective cover over his nose, his lip was cut and there were two vertical gashes on the back of his head."

According to the medical report there was no cut on the lip.

........................................................

The record shows that Zimmerman also suffered bruising in the upper lip and cheek and lower back pain.

Yea, there is a big inconsistency for the defense. What his father described as a cut, the doctor described as a bruising. The father didn't use a proper medical terminology to describe the injury to his lip. Wow.

Also, don't forget the claim that GZ was being treated for PTSD. I guess psych reports will be forthcoming as well...

Well that's interesting (about the LDT). That would of been the best time to give it too, right after the event happened.

Interesting it was buried nearly at the end of the article.

Another funny thing about the article is it has several bullet points at the beginning that try to show that the SPD did a poor job, but then the article goes on to give reasonable explainations for many of the so called "mis-steps"

ETA: MOO is that the "Editor" had to beef it up with the title and bullet points.

I think in order to prove GZ felt he was in fear of his life TM should have had a little more than a scratch on his left finger. jmo

And, GZ should have had at the very least some defensive marks on his hands and/or arms. It appears he did not participate in a fist fight at all and that once TM landed on top of him that GZ pointed his gun at TM and fired a lethal shot into his heart.

Everyone knows the difference between a cut and a bruise.

None of this is illegal. And would probably be a poor client representation if defense lawyer wouldn't try to present their side of the story, considering the public attention this case received.

How do you "land" on top of someone?

In context, each of those things contribute to a PR campaign, one with which Crump and his associates have no involvement in.

I never claimed any of those things were illegal.

Here is something else defense is going to have to clean up.

Their statement:

The reason the cuts were not stitched up the next day was because of the time length from the injury.

I believe the medical report and Dr. actions suggest the reason they were not sewn up were because they were so small or just skin tears. The photo of his head looks like the biggest one is just a skin tear.

We know these things because GZ said he was attacked on his way walking back on the cut through where the sidewalk meets (which is out in the open, no place to hide so GZ would have seen TM from a distance). GZ claims TM knocked him down right there. But a witness claims the two were running to where TM's body was found yards, yards away from where GZ said he initially was knocked down and beaten by TM.

According to the timeline GZ was still on the phone talking to LE with a minute to go when he would have reached the cut through. LE was telling GZ to meet with the patrol car at GZ's vehicle. Why did GZ run to the next street to find a house number when his car was on Twin Trees? That makes no sense. He was looking for TM. Unless GZ has severe comprehension problems he understood what LE was asking him to do. GZ then blows LE off by telling them they/or he will call back when he gets an address. He was planning on following TM and did not want to return to his car, IMO. It's possible he figured he would call LE back with a location once he found TM.

Even though he was asked to return to his car and had plenty of time to do so, GZ did not but continued to pursue TM. We know TM was hiding because he told his gf that GZ found him. That area where the back sidewalk is way too open for GZ not to have seen TM running or walking. I think TM was just trying to lose GZ. There is no doubt GZ was pursuing TM. He was not just out for a casual stroll plus he admitted to LE he was following TM.

Taking all the information that we know so far it's pretty easy to see what happened. But, there are always two ways to look at a situation. You have to consider who was in control, who could have prevented this from happening and who was the more aggressive up to the point of contact. I do consider that aggressively following someone by car and getting out and pursuing them on foot is not a sign that GZ was planning on formally introducing himself, nor did he have the best intentions for TM. He had that opportunity at the clubhouse but chose to make TM appear to be a criminal in the eyes of LE. jmo

You've actually read the full statement that GZ gave to LE that night? Not the hearsay nonsense from his family, but GZ himself?

TM was trying to lose GZ but yet stopped to talk to his girlfriend not 50 yards from his front doorstep. If TM would of kept running, he would of been either in his house, standing right at his door, or clear out of the subdivision by the time GZ got off the phone with 911. So much for being so 'scared'.

Because words are important, at what point was he *asked* to return to his car, and what words were used?

They expected him to be with his car where he would be safe. This would be a normal instruction from LE. That, or his home. They did not want him to follow TM and the instruction is quite clear as the dispatcher was trying to set up a easily location for LE to find GZ. It's for the safety of everyone involved. I think it was the dispatcher's belief that GZ understood what he was suppose to do. The belief was GZ's alone that TM was about to commit a crime and yet he took off after him knowing he shouldn't be doing so. No one else in the neighborhood felt TM was acting suspicious as GZ's call was the only one, at that time. jmo

Was anyone else even outside who saw TM other than GZ? That's a pretty broad assumption to make without knowing who else even saw TM walking that night.

This thread has veered way off topic and some of your posts were removed for that reason. We'll be opening some new topical threads to discuss the defense of GZ.
