How good is your memory of June 4?

I think locals will remember because there is a very compelling reason to remember.

If I was a local, I would definitely have a good memory of that day. Especially if I had a child in Skyline. Or knew someone who did. Or if I was in that area. I would think everyone in that immediate area would have - at least - some recollection because a tragic thing happened to a little boy right in their OWN town on that day.

But I'm not local, so I have a very limited memory of what I did on June 4th. I'm not compelled to remember to what I did that day because I'm thousands of miles away, so my memory is not compelled to recall.

But I am sure that if it happened in my own town, you bet I would remember a lot about that day. Whenever a tragic event happens that affects many people, you're compelled to remember. But if you're so far removed from the event, you're not compelled to recall. If it happened in your backyard, you would be compelled to remember everything.

I think of it like this.
Where were you when Kennedy was shot? Do you remember? If it affected you personally, yes, you remember.
Where were you on 9/11? Do you remember? If it affected you personally, yes, you remember?
A little girl was kidnapped 4 miles from my house last year (ultimately found safe), but do you remember where you were on that date last year? Maybe you don't, but I do, because it affected me personally.

Now, do you remember where you were on June 4th when Kyron went missing? I don't remember because I'm not intimately connected to the case. I'm not even local.

But I bet most local people remember where they were because it affects most of them personally, on a very intimate level.

Thankfully, I keep an Outlook calendar. On June 4th (a Friday) my husband came home from out of town. I had a Dr. appt on the 3rd for my broken ankle, so the day after was "a day of rest". Meaning I was home all day because I still had a very hard time getting around.

I'm neurotic like that -- my mom always wrote down what she did on her calendar, even the weather, and I picked up her habit.

BUT, as far as details? Couldn't tell ya. Like what I had for breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.

I know I spoke with my son on June 4th as he calls everyday, but I can't prove it on my end as I have a landline, although it can be verified he called me as he used his cellphone.

Usually, your bank account will reflect the exact day on which you used your debit or credit card.
Sometimes it shows a day or two later (never earlier!) and it will appear that you have charged something on a day on which you were not at the Foody Doody or the Piggly Wiggly.
Your receipt should still show the actual day you shopped, but the charge itself doesn't always show up on the same day. Be careful when plotting and planning to use this as an alibi!

I remember the day that my friend's child got kidnapped a couple of decades ago. I found out it about the next day, and I still remember what I was doing at that time, where I was, and who I was with. Not because I need an alibi ( I live far away).

I also remember a lot about the day Kennedy was shot. Where I was when I heard and who told me. Of course, I was in a school swimming pool, but I still remember.

Absolutely! See, very significant things happened. I, too, remember the day Kennedy got shot and everything about that day. Like you, I was in school and remember getting to a school pay phone and calling my mother and and she was crying on the phone about it. Unforgettable day.

I have no idea. I have had thousands of inane conversations with my 10 year old since June 4. She distracts me. I remember logging on here....

I have had since June 4th:

Held two birthday parties.

Had over a thousand inane conversations with my 10 year old daughter.

Celebrated the 4th of July.

Been to the dentist at least 5 times for my TMJ.

The point I am trying to make is life goe on. June 4th is important to and memorable to the people involved in the case. The family that lost a child, the LE investigating the missing child, and the person or people responsible for the child going missing can tell you exactly what was going on June 4th.

I think life has moved on for the rest of us and we are sketchy at best on what happened June 4th.

. How well would you do if you were asked to respond to the new questionnaire?

I would do pretty well. Since reading here at WS, I am much more aware of my surroundings. I have made mental or actual notes to myself when something seems "off". I have written down license plate numbers, descriptions, etc. And as for June 4 specifically, I remember where I was when I heard that Kyron was missing and I was able to reconstruct pretty well.

Can you recall exactly what you did on Friday, June 4? I have an excellent memory and had to check my calendar to jog my thoughts about that day. As soon as I noticed that I had an appointment with my allergy/asthma specialist at 10:00am, I was able to reconstruct the rest of the day until I returned home at @ 2:00pm.

People in Portland/environs are being asked to recall their actions on that day and jog their memories about who they might have seen in such-and-such a place. How well would you do if you were asked to respond to the new questionnaire?

Respectfully snipped.

I have been thinking about this, and while normally, I could not tell you from one day to the next what I do and what times I did them, to all of those people in that little town, that day was significant, and they are probably more mindful of what transpired that day, heck, some may have written it down.

I can tell you that when I go to a school event and parking is so heavy, I can definitely remember if I had to go into the neighborhood to park, or park down at the rec center and walk over, that definitely sticks in my mind.

One more thought ;) I knew my Gram kept journals etc for most of her life, and after she died, I found in a drawer notebooks on top of notebooks (even from earlier in her life, though not as detailed), but it had pretty detailed explainations of what she did daily, even after she was on bed rest. :( So I think there are people out there that can recreate a day, even months later.

Good idea for a thread!

I can't remember any details from June 4th and anything I do remember is just because I have a pretty regular schedule that doesn't vary much.
I recall for sure that I worked from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Everything after that is just guessing what I "probably" did.
I "probably" stopped off at Publix on my way home to grab a quick dinner, then I "probably" just hung out with my bf and the kids.
Even if my life depended on it, I doubt I could come up with any exact details since nothing significant happened that day.

I looked at the e-mails I sent that day. Here's what I did. Times omitted for TMI reasons. I would have been at work, probably ran home for lunch, then after work I stopped at the market that has artisan beer (this is Oregon, you know). Then I was at home eating leftover stew, likely drinking beer. I can't account for my whereabouts after the early evening but I was probably sitting in front of the computer. I have AD/HD. If I didn't have the e-mails I sent, I would have no clue about the entire day except for being at work. No idea who or what I saw at all.

IMO, it is not remembering what you did or where you were but the details around you. Remembering where you parked it not a detail. But remembering the car next to you would be a detail.

Most people do not even pay attention to the detail. Unless I'm parked next to a car that makes an impression, I could not tell anything about the car parked next to mine. Now it it was a friend's car or a Classic car or the jerk parked so close to me that I could barely get into my car. Then it makes an impression and I will remember more.

When driving, same thing. Unless the car makes some type of impression, it is just another car on the road.

Many people in that area will remember what they did that day because Kyron disappeared. However, how many people paid attention to the details surrounding them before he disappeared? Unless something stood out, they most likely did not. If something stood out, they have already told LE about it.

The only way to "remember" everyday details would be if you knew you were going to be asked about them later.

I reply to Bettydavis in another thread about June 4. And than with all great ideas on checking movement on June 4. I work for our church and I went to my planner... and the morning of June 4th I was cleaning the hall we had just had a funeral day before (I couldn't not tell you who the funeral was for because I didn't write it down, because mainly I didn't know family I know they were up in age..and another group ladies handle funerals):waitasec:

And than back home and on Ws the rest day.:innocent:

I would like to share something that happen on this past Tuesday.

My husband and I went to town in the afternoon for supper and shopping.

We sit in booth and another couple was sitting behind us. I will admit I am eavesdropper... and the man kept asking the waitress all kind questions about the area like a cheap hotel, what was jobs were like in our area and etc.

He had a question about the area every time the waitress would come up.

The town we were in is right off I70 in Illinois a lot truck stops and camping areas.

I been following the prison escape from AZ at that time and the couple was reported to be In Yellowstone area. So that what I was thinking when I turn around to get good look at him.

What I remember was that he was about 5'8 dirty blond hair, shoulder length, glasses , blue eyes (when I turn to look at him he look right at me so I remember his eye color).

The women was sitting back to back with me...she had thick dirty blond hair and held up with a hair clip she was taller than the man about a head. A least that way it look. I never seen her face.

It didn't look like McCluskey (escapee) I thought about going back to salad bar but I didn't.

I think my point is the story all over the media and people might remember because of that.

With Portland citizens that day and asking people about a white truck and two redheads I just don't know:waitasec: A less the redheads did something to cause attention to them.

I think parents at Skyline would try their best to remember every details about the science fair.

Great Thread!

Doubtful I would record in my calendar diary someone whizzing by in a white truck on the road. However, if I was at the school that morning I would notice people and probably the white truck. Some things are recorded in my memory that I wouldn't have to write down like impressions of a certain person, or the way that white truck stood out when I was looking for a parking spot, then later I saw it moved which struck me odd that mornining, or whatever. IMO, there is hope that people will remember something else about that morning. I hope so because it seems very important to the investigation.

Lol, I even went through my emails at work that day and can't come up with anything other than we apparently had some issues with employees playing ping pong instead of working. I work for a Korean company, so those type emails are always cute.

Dear all,

I suggest a rule about the table tennis in our warehouse as below.

"Not allow by 4:30 p.m except the break time."

I want everybody working in this property to keep this rule FROM TODAY.

Signed,

Ozzy,

Please, release your rackets during the break time only and after 4:30 p.m.

Thank you for your cooperation.

This thread has reminded me of a question that has popped into my mind a number of times since this crime has occurred: what about using hypnosis? I have read that police have used it as a tool before when questioning witnesses/victims. It has been used to help them recall certain details such as car makes and license plates.

With so many potential witnesses around it would seem like a possibility if reliable, admissible, allowed.

I was thinking it might be slightly unreasonable to ask people to remember 2 months ago.

Then I remembered.... I can tell you what I was doing on June 5, 2002! I can tell you where I was, what I was driving, what room I was in when the news came on. I can give you detail of my day from 8 years ago, because it's the day Elizabeth Smart was abducted and I live in Utah.

I have a bad memory, I had just had shoulder surgery, my grandmother had just died, the funeral was the 1st of June and I found out I was pregnant 10 days later. So remembering Elizabeth's abduction or following it, wasn't high on my priority list.

So I do think it's reasonable that most people should be able to give detail of the day Kyron disappeared, 2 months ago if they are from his area.

We caught a skunk in the cat trap on Friday June 4th. Well, it was the night of June 3rd, but June 4th was the day we had to figure out how to get it OUT. (We used a big stick to open the trap.)

The kids ate yogurt, chips and berries.

We did regular stuff around the house, it was too hot to play outside.

The kids ate oatmeal.

We did school.

We went to eat at Mex-i-can as my daughter calls it.

I drove, I almost always drive. (Control freak.)

We drove the white truck. (It's a dodge, not a Ford. A 1500 not a 2500. No stickers.)

We did not take 1-15 because of construction.

I parked in between two empty spots. (I always try to.) But when we came out there was a black Honda accord on the driver's side and a blue Toyota Tacoma on the passenger side. I could tell you what the people in each of them looked like, but they weren't terribly distinctive.

I have a receipt and/or credit card statement to verify where I was that night as well as a few pictures.

I got home, got the kids to bed, did laundry, dishes and picked up. Then finally got online around 11pm and saw Kyron was missing.

The End.

I saw this thread and thought it was pretty interesting stuff, so I went back over facebook, personal email, and work email. Wow. Didn't find much there. Then I looked at the planner on my phone, and it gave me a few more clues and I was able to piece together a little bit, but not the entire day by any means. I know what time I got up, what time I left the house, and when I dropped the kids off at daycare. The only time I stop for coffee or a snack in the morning is on payday, and it wasn't, so I know that I met my friend right before work and drank coffee with him. I always get to work at the same time. I was tired that day according to facebook, and I know that I was reading through my google feed by a couple of links that I shared, so it was a slow day at work. I got off work and went home, and I know by pictures that were taken that night that my brother came over and had a couple of beers at my house. I went to bed around 10:00 pm, as I do every Friday. As far as who I talked to on the phone, texted, etc., there is no way I could tell. I had no outgoing calls from my cell. Pretty vague and boring, and very routine. There is nothing that stands out from that day. Not at all.

A big white double cab truck I might remember if I was at the school that morning. Normally, I don't know car makes and models, but trucks like that stand out.

I would never remember a truck or car with children and the excitement of Science Fair day. I would have no idea where I parked. I would only remember it was Science Fair day if I were one of the family members that attended, I would not have a clue, just watching out for my child/children to get them into the school, watching them enjoy the event, and then exhausted and on my way. Not a thing I would recall otherwise.
