Hosey: He did his time but it wasn't much | The Herald-News

When his girlfriend disappeared, never to be seen again, James Borg was living with her in a house on Southeast Circle Drive, just outside Joliet.

Borg said his girlfriend, Anne Gay, who was 52 at the time, went out to the store to get cigarettes and drinks, came back home and then took off in a green car driven by another woman, according to the police, who were skeptical of this account.

Then, three weeks after Gay vanished, Borg cut a gas line in the home and blew the place up. He was launched from a second floor bedroom and into the front yard, police said, and ended up at Loyola University Medical Center with burns over 70 percent of his body.

After he got out of the hospital, Borg lived at the Will County jail for about a year and a half. And then he stayed at a couple state prisons over the course of the next year and eight months.

Borg pleaded guilty to arson for blowing up the rental house he lived in with Gay. He was released from prison in October 2016 and finished up his parole earlier this year. Gay is still missing.

Gay's disappearance happened under extremely suspicious circumstances, according to NamUs.

"Home where she was reportedly living was destroyed by an explosion on 7/14/2013," NamUs reports. In 2015, Patch reported that James Borg, 46, pleaded guilty to blowing up his own home while he was inside it.

Borg and Gay lived together in a rented house on Southeast Circle Drive in unincorporated Joliet. A few weeks after Gay vanished, a police dog trained to locate cadavers was taken into the house, but Gay's remains were not found at that time. The next week, Borg blew up the house, injuring himself in the process.

Borg got sentenced to six years in prison and in exchange for his plea to a charge of residential arson, three counts of aggravated arson were dismissed.

Anyone with information about Anne Gay should call the Will County Sheriff's Office at 815-727-8574.
