Intense search at property in Jerseyville related to missing woman

Jerseyville, Ill. (KSDK) -- A search is underway at a property in Jerseyville in connection to the disappearance of an Alton woman.

Forty-eight-year-old Bonnie Woodward disappeared in late June. She was last seen in the parking lot at her job. Witnesses said she was talking to a man.

Family members tell us they were notified by police that a search began early this morning in connection to the case, but that's all they were told

Police say Jersey County man's fingerprints on missing East Alton woman's pickup

Fingerprints found on the pickup of missing East Alton resident Bonnie Woodward belonged to Roger Carroll of rural Jersey County, police said in a court document made public here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a search of the residence and land of Carroll and his wife Monica southeast of Jerseyville continued for a second day. Police said they were looking for evidence that might be related to Woodward's disappearance. But searchers found no human remains -- and no other evidence they were willing to talk about.

The warrant that authorized the search of the Carrolls' property had not been made public on Thursday but another warrant for Roger Carroll's cellular telephone records was made available.

In an affidavit accompanying an application for the warrant, Alton police Detective Jarrett Ford said the Illinois State Police crime lab had determined last week that latent fingerprints on Woodward's truck belonged to Roger Carroll.

The affidavit also said Carroll resembles the description of a man that Woodward's co-workers saw her talking with on the parking lot near a silver-colored car believed to be a Chevrolet Malibu. The affidavit said the Carrolls own and drive a silver Malibu.

The disappearance of her stepdaughter sounded pretty frustrating and I can only imagine stressful for this woman. Now she is gone. :waitasec: I am wondering if she would have been testifying against these people since they have been recently charged.

"Madison County prosecutors on Friday charged 41-year-old Christine M. Scheffel of East Alton with obstructing justice. Scheffel allegedly lied to a police officer on June 28 about Heather's whereabouts. The charge is a Class 4 felony.

Prosecutors also charged Roger W. Carroll, 44, and Monica Carroll, 44, with harboring a runaway — Heather Woodward — at their home in rural Jersey County from June 17 through July 3. Harboring a runaway is a misdemeanor.

Alton police Sgt. Jerry Cooley said Scheffel is a teacher at East Alton-Wood River High School and the Carrolls are friends of Scheffel.

Cooley said not knowing the girl's whereabouts — or that she was safe — necessitated needless work for Alton and East Alton police and other law enforcement agencies involved in investigating the two disappearances.

"We put a lot of man-hours into looking for Heather," Cooley said. He said police had to treat both cases as potentially involving foul play and possibly linked. If Heather was safe, he said, police needed to know if she had any information that would help police determine what happened to Bonnie Woodward."

Here is an interesting video interview with the sister. Is it just me or does it sound like she believes she knows who took/hurt Bonnie? Sounds like it might be connected with the people involved with the step daughter disappearance.

Her sis seems really nice and gave more insight into the kind of person Bonnie is too. Bonnie is just a genuine sweet person who does for others. I hope they find out what happened to her. :(

This is very weird. I wonder what's going on behind the scenes.
The the last comment made by the sister refers to Bonnie in the past tense. Normally you wouldn't hear the family talk that way unless they knew, or were confident that she was no longer alive. :(

After two days of searching they have called off the search at Carrols property and he is out on bail.

They need to charge the SD with hindering an investigation or at least hold her on suspision. I bet after a few hours of intense interagation she would admit to what happened. You know it has to be frustrating for LE when they know what has happened but dont have the evidense to prove it.
God bless Bonnies family I know this is hard for them.
Has anyone heard who is taking care of her special need step son? probably her sister, I just dont know if they would have legal rights.

I hate to think Bonnie was doing the right thing parenting, trying to get the child back, and was killed for it. I have a grown mentally ill son who gave me quite a bit of trouble back when he was a teen, and I went after him a time or two to someones home to reason with him.

My son is most excellent at appearing normal-almost innocent and sociable. He actually works in the healthcare field and is really good at it! People would take a long time to clue in that my son is a probable borderline personality(sociopath was tossed around a few times when he was younger too-he's been having trouble since he hit puberty). He could convince someone he was abused pretty easily until his mask would slip.

Could these people have thought they were doing the right thing defending the girl? How awful for Bonnie if she did indeed come to harm just being a mom!

I apologize in advance if I missed it, but I didn't see this link posted up thread - from September 30th 2010:
