Parents of missing boy raise awareness at park in Normal

Parents of a child who went missing in 2006, are trying to raise awareness

But this is the reality for Don and Donna Ross. Their son Jesse was last seen in Chicago for a mock United Nations in 2006. The two are spending part of the day at Anderson Park in Normal to raise awareness about the issue.

I saw Jesse's story on the Beth Holloway show "Vanished" last night. I did not know that Jesse was from the same hometown as Kara Kopetzky. I don't think that would connect the cases, but you never know. Did anyone else see the show last night? I missed the part about the CD and the flyer. Was he going to see the band that he managed? A different band? Was the door he was last filmed exiting going to the outside of the hotel or just the outside of the conference room?

Somewhere, there is a link that shows that 3 or possibly 4 young men, visiting Chicago, have vanished into thin air exiting the SAME hotel. They have all the men leaving the hotel on video, but then that's it...they are all gone. I wonder if Jesse left the same hotel. I'm off to find the article...if this jars anyone elses memory..let me know...

I think the premise behind the flyer, the cd, and bands was that Jesse was going to some kind of rave, or party, that he had a flyer for, and was taking the cd of the band he managed, to try and promote them to the people either at, or running, the rave.

I saw Vanished last night too. I never heard of this case until then.

My common sense leads me to believe that people just don't vanish into thin air. Or so I thought....and that's the part that's most frightening.

All had been staying at Sheraton (in same general area where many men have gone missing) see link to Smiley face killer...

I recall this case well as I allways mixed the spelling up for Jen kesse and this young guy and what I recall is the too retired police detectives that were so sure there was someone or a group aka the happy face killers that were somehow throwing college aged men in the Chicago river and they were sure that's where he would turn up then I never heard his name mentioned again till tonight.

Two Missing Person Cases Baffling Police

Seventeen-thousand – that’s how many people go missing in Chicago every year. Ninety-eight percent of them are located, but CBS 2’s Bill Kurtis reports on two cases that have baffled police.

[snip]

Police also have never found 19-year-old Jesse Ross from Missouri, who went missing on Nov. 21, 2006.

His mother described what it has been like.

“We still know nothing. it’s a parent’s worst nightmare,” Donna Ross said.

Jesse Ross Missing: Student's Mysterious Disappearance Chronicled In New Book

The father of missing University of Missouri student Jesse "Opie" Ross has chronicled more than five years of searching for answers in a newly released book, "Where's Opie?: Vanished in Chicago."

Ross' father, Donald Ross, described the book as part "personal therapy," and told The Huffington Post he hopes the book will help others who are in a similar situation.

Jesse Warren Ross was a 19-year-old sophomore when he vanished on Nov. 21, 2006, while attending a mock United Nations conference in Chicago, Ill.

According to police, Ross was last seen at about 2:30 a.m., leaving the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, where a conference dance was held. Surveillance footage from the hotel does not indicate Ross was intoxicated when he left. It is believed he was headed to his hotel, the Four Points Sheraton, which was located about ten minutes away. What happened to Ross after he left the Sheraton Hotel remains a mystery.

BELTON, MO (KCTV) -Don and Donna Ross know they will see their son again some day, just perhaps not the way they want.

"We know we will see Jesse again. Just maybe not on this earth," Donna Ross said.

Each day is hard since their son known as "Opie" vanished on a school trip to Chicago in 2006.

Thanks, summer_breeze. I discovered the Web Sleuths website last month. What a terrific resource this is to bring attention to crimes and missing persons cases.
