IL - Olamide Adeyooye, 21, Normal, 13 Oct 2005

Ashley posts in her blog that she is a senior Criminal Justice major, hence why she knows so much about the case. She is studying it like anything else she is studying in school. However, you are all right.. in essence she is still a student, tainted by the fact that her best friend happened to be the first case she dealt with.

Neighbour Sought Asylum After 2001 Conviction

A Normal man whose apartment was searched in the death of an Illinois State University student sought political asylum in England after a 2001 criminal conviction, court documents say.

Olamide 'Could Light Up a Room'

Olamide Adeyooye's life should be treasured as a gift from God that brought light to those around her, friends and family said Wednesday at a campus memorial service. "Remember her smile and her laughter," said her father, Abiodun Adeyooye, who received a standing ovation after addressing the crowd of more than 800 at Illinois State University.

From what I've read on here Ashley didn't say that the two girls got into a fight the night Ola went missing. Ashley went over to Ola's and Ola was in the shower. Ashley said that she yelled at Ola for not having the door locked when she was showering. That doesn't have to mean that they fought. It could mean that Ashley raised her voice at Ola because she was concerned for her safety. Anyone could walk through the door and the person in the shower with the water running wouldn't hear a thing. If I knocked on a girlfriends door and then found the door to be unlocked with her in the shower I would say something too. I would probably yell at her because with the water running that is the only way that she would be able to hear me.
Ashley posted on her blog that she fought with Olamide the day that she disappeared. The fight was not regarding the shower situation as she said something about a CD and AOL. The entry was somewhat cryptic with many disjointed thoughts, so I am not sure entirely what the fight was about apart from that.

ETA: I am not accusing, just clarifying. :)

 • Maurice Wallace has been named a suspect in the case.
 • He was at a mall when he was arrested in GA.
 • Police say that they are still talking to people and there may be other suspects.
From what I gather, Wallace's credit card must have been being watched as a result of the theft from his friend. That would explain why he was arrested in GA on fraud charges.

Jailed Man Now Suspected in Killing

A Normal man now officially is a suspect in the death of the Illinois State University student whose body was found last month in rural Mississippi.
There's still people we're talking to, and there's still evidence that hasn't been analyzed," Kotte said Thursday during a news conference. "And so when we say that, yes, we have reason to believe that he is involved or has knowledge, that does not rule out that there could be other individuals (involved)."

Additional charges have been filed against Maurice Wallace:

 • Aggravated battery
 • Disorderly conduct
 • Theft
All charges stem from an October 9th incident.

The charges have nothing to do with Olamide's disappearance and murder.

Wallace's bond has been raised to $500,000.

Suspect in ISU Student's Death Faces New Charges

Maurice Wallace has four new charges awaiting him when he`s extradited to McLean County. On October 9th, court records show Wallace was at a party and allegedly groped and grabbed two different women. He faces two counts of aggravated battery, one for each victim. Wallace also faces a new theft charge for allegedly stealing a bottle of wine from a person reported to be his former roommate. But court records show Wallace`s temper may have elevated when he was asked to leave the party. Case files show Wallace refused to leave, threatened to put a gun to the head of the party`s host and told the host he had 40 hours to live while threatening to stab and bash his head in.

Adeyooye Case Still Under Investigation

NORMAL -- Police canceled regularly scheduled updates on the case of an Illinois State University student found dead in Mississippi and said they will provide updates as needed.

Lt. Mark Kotte said he did not expect any major developments soon in the case of Olamide Adeyooye, a 21-year-old senior from Berkeley. The department had until this week scheduled press briefings for information on the case.

Adeyooye's body was found in a burned chicken house in rural Mississippi, and Maurice Wallace of Normal is the only person identified as a suspect in her death. Wallace was arrested Oct. 20 in Atlanta, Ga., and has been awaiting extradition to Illinois on a separate theft charges.

Killing Suspect Returning to County

The only named suspect in the death of an Illinois State University student is on his way back to McLean County from Atlanta, Ga. Authorities also have begun a grand jury investigation into the disappearance and death last month of Olamide Adeyooye, a 21-year-old ISU senior from the Chicago suburb of Berkeley. They also are seeking television news footage related to the case.
This part is interesting:
At least two local television stations have received subpoenas seeking raw footage from their coverage of the disappearance and death of Adeyooye.

It was unclear Tuesday what authorities were looking for in the footage.

First Assistant State's Attorney Kim Campbell said she is not aware of any subpoenas issued to print or radio news outlets.

She declined to comment on possible charges in the case.
I wonder if someone who has been interviewed is also a person of interest?

Police are only saying that Wallace "may have been involved in the case". Who knows to what extent. Others may have been involved as well.

Judge Sets Wallace's Bond at $540,000

Wallace has not been charged in Adeyooye's death, but his bond in a pair of unrelated cases is set at $500,000 in one and $40,000 in the other. He needs to post 10 percent to be released from jail. "Five hundred thousand for aggravated battery?" Wallace asked.

"Yes, sir," replied Associate Judge Kevin Fitzgerald.

"That's got to be a new precedent," Wallace said.

While walking into the courtroom, Wallace told a deputy "you can call me Maurice."

First Assistant State's Attorney Kim Campbell declined to comment on whether Wallace could face additional charges and on his bond amount.

Besides his comments in court, I found this interesting:
Wallace was arrested Oct. 20 in Atlanta, Ga., on a charge he stole about $500 from a former roommate's bank account. He was extradited to Illinois and arrived Wednesday. He also is accused of grabbing two women's buttocks, stealing a bottle of wine and threatening a man who told him to leave a building early Oct. 9.

It was reported that the results of the second autopsy were inconclusive. According to Normal Police, Olamide's body has arrived in Normal from Mississippi and is now being sent to Indiana for a third autopsy to determine her cause of death.

I found the following article on the 'net, but it contradicts last night's report.
Second autopsy on ISU senior is completed

NORMAL - Mississippi medical examiners finished the second autopsy on the Illinois State University senior killed last month, but results aren't expected to arrive in the mail until late next week, Normal police said Thursday.

The body of Olamide E. Adeyooye was found Oct. 21 in a burned-out chicken house in Newton County, Miss., and identified Oct. 26.

Normal police Lt. Mark Kotte said if the report from Mississippi is mailed next Thursday or Friday, it likely won't arrive in Normal until the weekend, because there is no postal service over Thanksgiving.

He said if detectives do receive the package that Saturday, they will not release any information regarding its contents until Monday.

If the report does not indicate a cause of death, Normal police plan to immediately send Adeyooye's remains to another specialist for examination, Kotte said.

The only person Normal police have named as a suspect in Adeyooye's disappearance and death is Maurice Lashon Wallace, 27, of Normal. He is set to appear in court this morning for an arraignment on unrelated aggravated battery and theft charges.

He is in the McLean County Jail on $540,000 bond.

Let's hope the third autopsy will reveal something. Even if cause of death is never determined, a murder charge could still be brought. Laci Peterson's cause of death was never determined, yet we all know the outcome of that case.

Questions Still Linger After Second Autopsy

A second autopsy did not determine what caused the death of an Illinois State University student whose body was found last month in rural Mississippi, police said. Lt. Mark Kotte, of the Normal Police Department, said his department received word earlier this week from the office of a medical examiner in Mississippi that the cause of death was not determined by a second look at the body of Olamide Adeyooye. But he said his department has not yet received a full written report.

A 27-year-old man was charged Thursday in the death of an Illinois State University student whose badly burned body was found in the charred rubble of a Mississippi chicken house.

McLean County State's Attorney Bill Yoder said Maurice Wallace faces three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of concealing a homicide and one count of theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the death of 21-year-old Olamide Adeyooye. A student from suburban Chicago, Adeyooye was last seen Oct. 13 at a video store near her off-campus apartment in the city of Normal.

Wallace is due in court Friday for a bond hearing where prosecutors said they will seek to have him held on $2 million bond.

At a news conference to announce the charges, Yoder declined to answer questions about the case, deferring to Friday's hearing when the factual basis for the charges will be read in court.

Yoder declined to comment on where Adeyooye was killed, and during the news conference he placed the time of death at Oct. 13-15. But charging documents say she was killed in her apartment on Oct. 13, the day she was last seen alive.

One of the concealment charges alleges Wallace tried to clean blood from the floor of her apartment, then put her body in her car and left the area.

Prosecutors say on October 13, the last night anyone saw Illinois State University 21 year old student Olamide Adeyooye was also the last night she was alive. Adeyooye died from what`s called Acute Exsanguination due to a penetrating injury. Essentially, the force of an unknown object caused her to bleed to death in her apartment on West Market Street in Normal.

Police say that on October 17, they found blood in Adeyooye`s apartment, a bloody fingerprint belonging to Wallace, and droplets of her blood leading out her back door and into the parking lot. On October 20, when Wallace was arrested in Atlanta, FBI agents found Adeyooye`s car and house keys in his possession. Adeyooye`s Toyota Corolla was found in Atlanta a week after Wallace’s arrest.

The night a popular Illinois State University student was slain in her off-campus apartment, the accused murderer told an acquaintance "he felt like killing someone" and wanted to "become a martyr and get his name in the news," McLean County prosecutors alleged at his bond hearing Friday.

Investigators found Maurice Wallace's bloody fingerprint in Olamide Adeyooye's apartment and found her car keys in his rental car in Atlanta, Ga., a prosecutor said Friday in court.

First Assistant State's Attorney Kim Campbell also said Wallace told someone in an Oct. 13 phone call that: he was depressed; he wanted to leave the country; and he wanted to kill someone, become a martyr and have his name in the news. She did not identify the person Wallace spoke to, and declined to answer questions after the hearing.

McLean County prosecutors on Friday said they would indict a Normal man in the murder of Illinois State University student Olamide Adeyooye in the next two weeks.
Her family is upset the case hasn't moved more quickly and said they are conducting their own investigation that could lead to civil lawsuits.

Chicago attorney Benjamin Obi Nwoye said the Adeyooye family was disappointed after Maurice Lashon Wallace left an arraignment hearing Friday without entering a plea to charges he killed the 21-year-old college student. He didn't have to make a plea because he is waiting for an indictment from a grand jury.

"We hope this villain will be brought to justice as soon as possible," Nwoye said. "We will not lay down until we have justice for Ola."
