IN - Aliahna Maroney Lemmon, 9, Fort Wayne, 23 Dec 2011 - #1

THere is a comment that says there was an attempted abduction a couple weeks ago and the child got away safe...does anyone have an article about that incident? I looked and Googled, and can't find anything.

Abductors do often troll for victims on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They will often find innocent victims walking to the corner market for donuts or walking to the park.

I am from Fort Wayne originaly and several of my friends that still live in the area went to help search but were told the search was "called off". I wonder what is up with that. I hope this little girl is found safe.

I too wonder why it was called off with a few hours of daylight left. Could be many reasons but with so little information I am not going to speculate right now. I read that civilians can search on their own but it is not encouraged by LE. I hope she is found safe, too, and quickly.

kind of o/t

Do you remember the April Tinsley case? Still unsolved and very scary, creepy case. Links for those that aren't familiar. She has a thread here, too.

This is JMO, but I don't get this sleeping in until 10am if you are in charge of little kids...especially if you are not used to being in charge of little kids...not blaming anyone, but that seems late :(

The neighbor's comment said the family friend got up at 2am and calmed her down from a nightmare.
This article says she was in the home at 6am but does not say who saw her at that time. It is being said she left the home between 6am and 10am.

I keep thinking if she left on her own and got lost she would have been found by now. I think dogs would have tracked her scent. :(

Twall,

Yes, that is the only child abduction I can remember up there. What an odd case. It always seemed odd to me that after so long the killer would turn up and send those notes, if they were really from the perp.

I am scratching my head as to why they called off the search so early, but I guess they have their reasons. I know it is probably dark by now but they called it off a while ago when there was still plenty of daylight left. :waitasec:

Also, if I am in charge of a child and woke up and found out they were not there I would be in a complete panic. Why didn't the sitter call the mom and ask if she walked home instead of waiting to find out if she was went home when her mom came to pick them up for the b-day party FGS?? Especially one with special needs that is a known sleepwalker who will leave the home while sleeping? My hinky meter is starting to lean towards the red area.

Yep, I heard them call it off 2 hours ago. It is just now starting to get dark here at 5:09.

I will be back after dinner and the local news and post any updates not already done so.

It is always odd to me when something happens to a child when they are in a place they do not usually stay, or when something unusual has happened recently...seems very coincidental. JMO

Do we know yet how old the sisters are? TIA.

Why was the call to LE so late. Wasn't it at 8:40 pm? Is that correct?

Was the search called off? Or did LE request volunteer searchers not look on foot because it would interfere with their aerial search?

I believe it was because the friend that was taking care of the girls apparently thought that Aliahna had initially went to her mom's house when she left, so he was unconcerned. At some point someone realized that she was NOT at her mothers and the police were called. I will try to find where I saw that and post the link.

ETA: Ohhh, wait. I think I got confused. Are you saying that they relized that she was missing quite some time before 8:40 pm so why the delay in calling the police? Sorry, trying to do Christmas stuff and make dinner, etc. I'm a little confuzzled right now. :)

Fries is discouraging people wanting to help search for girl because that negatively affects the ISP aerial search.
