GUILTY IN - Jeremy, 21, & Kyleigh Crane, 7, found murdered, Cumberland, 9 Dec 2011

This crime needs to be solved, and before Christmas.

I must say I'm not impressed by the newsgathering media in Indianapolis. I've always heard the Indy Star was a joke, but, apparently, no one in the vicinity is working this case as it should be worked, journalistically.

But wow... I danced... my girls dance... and I guess I just know too much?
Anything that would be considered "sexy" on an adult is something my kids cannot wear. I worry about those other girls.

Okay, so it's not just me then. And I am a long long way from being uppity about what my kids wear. Not judging the family, but that dance studio really needs to take a long hard look at what they're making those girls wear.

So, so sad that this woman lost both her son and precious grandchild, who was only there by chance to begin with. Over a couple of game consoles?? Ugh!!

Homicide detectives are putting together details of the deaths of Kyleigh Crane and her uncle, Jeremy Crane, but say they really need one more clue to break the case.
That clue, of course, is the answer to the question, "Who did this?"

Does not seem as if they're any closer to having any idea as to the perpetrator(s).

Yes, every case is that "one clue" away...

Wondering if only games were taken? Could this be a "wayward" teen burglar? A young person might be more likely to panic.

Games and the phone. Another "teenager"-type item perhaps.
In addition to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 stolen from the house, detectives also filed reports about a missing HTC EVO cell phone.

Good find, georgiajean, and thanks for it.

So what are Indy-area reporters covering in the meantime, Santa bell-ringing at the shopping mall?? This is huge news in a devastatingly tragic case. So far they've been mainly content to cover the funeral plans and community vigil.

The article says the warrant was served at a residence at 42nd and Post road, this is a troubled area. Living in Cumberland it is very much possible that the uncle had friends in this area. The MCL cafeteria is near there too. I still think this has something to do with the uncle, I just can't see the 7 year old having any enemies. I did see the parents and grandmother on the nightly news pleading for anyone with clues to call police or crime stoppers.

Just another thought:this area is lower middle class that thieves would not case in order to rob so I am thinking that Jeremy had friends in the house at some time that saw the Xbox and that person was allowed entry to the house that morning and killed the uncle and child. 42nd and Post Road is rife with crime and any friend from there would be suspect.

Friday night, they served a search warrant at a home near 42 nd Street and Post Road in Indianapolis looking for information. At this point, they have not said what they found in the home.

Recent wave of gun crimes and gun deaths has U.S. Attorney Joe Hogset seeking increased efforts to fight gun crime in Indianapolis.

I'm usually the cynical one. This time, I am thinking the uncle had no intentional part in things. That is, he didn't do anything other than possibly innocently and inadvertently reveal they had gaming consoles to some creep who saw it as an opportunity. Then again, the uncle may not have known the robber at all....after all, the loot wasn't much of a score. In my estimation, ANYONE going after gaming consoles is not playing with a full deck. Sounds like an idiot functioning at a low level. (reminds me of the case where a teenager was shot and killed just so his gym shoes could be taken)

The things I read about the uncle...caring for his niece... while he himself is barely an adult... makes me want to defend him. Paying for dance and babysitting at the crack of dawn? That's a pretty mature young uncle.

And yes....I feel the same way as PPs...the world seems to be morally disintegrating.....then again....it tends to feel that way more to us who frequent WS website daily.....Always something that makes you want to question humanity.

Did the uncle have an ex girlfriend with a new boyfriend? He seems the devoted kinda guy who would shower even an ex with gifts.

Does this state have the death penalty?

Very possibly, Jeremy had a coworker who lives in that area. Another coworker may have overheard something which led LE to search that home.

IMO, the perp is probably someone who wanted presents to give his kids for Christmas. If a coworker of Jeremy is responsible, though, seems he would've known Jeremy's schedule. I wonder if Jeremy was scheduled to work that day, but called off so he could stay home with his niece. I feel that Jeremy and Kyleigh surprised the burglar, who wasn't expecting anyone to be home.

With all of the commercialism surrounding Christmas, I dread this time of the year any more. What happened to peace and goodwill?

I think this is another sick example of the times were living in. I don't think this was a targeted crime at all. I think this is a random robbery and they happend to go to that house .Even woarse I really don't think It's anybody they knew and as sad as it is to say in a robbery you can see the brother being killed as he could give a good description they prolly had a car and he would have been able to give that description so they shot him to not have a wittness . And i think thats what they did to the little girl which is just sick not like she could have jotted down the plate number or gave a very good description if any at all . I think this is a random robbery gone bad and prolly some 20 something's on god knows what drugs ..Just out of curiosity is there a DP in this state..I hope so..

Like you, I think Jeremy was a really decent kid did nothing more than allow who he thought was a friend into his home, while not realizing he was allowing the devil to enter. My heart just went out to the parents and Grandmother as I watched them on the news. No one deserves the pain this killer has inflicted on this family.
