A trial began Monday for a Lexington man who is accused of killing and dismembering a woman whom he had dated.

Paris R. Charles, 60, is accused of murder and abuse of a corpse in the 2014 death of Goldia Massey, 50.

Rewa Zakharia, a prosecutor with the Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, told the jury during opening statements Monday that when police first visited Charles at his home in late 2014, he did not invite them inside, but they could see that he had some injuries and the carpet had been removed.

When they later executed a search warrant at the home, she said police found box cutters, saws and saw blades.
