I live in the area. There are quite a few low rent and questionable motels on the north end of Lafayette. The area in which the body was found is a beautiful country setting with winding roads that follow the Bayou Vermilion aka Vermilion River. The houses are few and far between. The land has tons of trees, a couple of gravel roads, house trailers, sugarcane fields, homes, huge ditches. This area has been known as a dump site for bodies and garbage. Bicycle riders off use these roads due to the lack of traffic and scenery. The roads connect St. Martin, Lafayette and St. Landry parishes. I drive this area because it’s a “shortcut” to a small shopping center. I do hesitate taking the shortcut because of the lack of traffic.
