Resolved LA - Tallulah, WhtFem Skeletal 163UFLA, 19-23, Dec'94 - Name not found

I was advised that the DNA is comparable so I will have to take their word for it that Dedra is not a match.

Next!

What about one of these ladies?

Not sure about the circumstances, but all have disappeared in early to mid 1994:

1) Buffy Mayo
2) Heather Lynne Wilson
3) Michelle Barnett
4) Laura Louise Smith Williams

The only one of the four where you can't see the front teeth is Buffy Mayo, so I don't know one way or the other for her. But for the other three, I see clear inconsistencies in their teeth.

Here's a close-up of Heather Wilson's teeth compared to the UID's teeth.

In the following discussion, keep in mind that the upper teeth are numbered #1 to #16, right to left, and the two upper front teeth are numbered #8 and #9 right to left (of that person, not the viewer).

Heather's upper left side is pretty close. But her #7 tooth is up-front, compared to the UID's #7, which is displaced back behind the #8.

The same goes for Michelle Barnett.

For Laura Smith-Williams, both her #7 and #10 are up-front and in-line with the #8 & #9, compared to those of the UID, which are displaced back.

This girl showed up in NamUs today, but there is no photo of her:

Bertha Bea Sieg
https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/12824/31

She might be a little too young (15) and too light (105 lbs) to be this Jane Doe.

But the other details seem close enough. She was last seen at approximately the same time that this Jane Doe was thought to have died. Her height is right. She has reddish hair. She might fit the description of being mixed race. And she is from Duncanville (i.e., a suburb of Dallas), which would explain the Dallas Cowboys shirt.

Here is the updated UID's NamUs page. https://identifyus.org/cases/889

18 girls are listed as ruleouts

Michelle Burchell 1972 Kentucky
Jayne Davis 1968 Texas
Brenda Green 1972 Alabama
Deanna Joy 1973 Minnesota
Kristi Krebs 1970 California
Jeanie Lofton 1972 Texas
Roxanne Martin 1954 Florida
Donda Martino 1961 Tennessee
Shannon Melendi 1974 Georgia
Genevieve Munoz 1976 Mississippi
Amy Pagnac 1976 Minnesota
Anjanette Piotrowski 1973 New York
Patricia Schmidt 1964 Virginia
Tiffany Sessions 1968 Florida
Mary Shinn 1953 Arkansas
Michelle Thomas 1967 Texas
Kelly Wilson 1974 Texas
Jennifer Wyant 1958 Tennessee

What do you think about this girl? I think the noses look different, but the eyes.... Jane went missing from NY when she was 27...(a little older than what the UID is listed as http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/k/kelsey_jane.html

https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/7595/1/

Jane isn't listed on the Rule out list, and her NamUs profile said that DNA isn't available..

Carl, Can you do a side by side with Jane's pic and the UID?

At first blush, I'd say that Jane Kelsey has a weaker chin and broader temples than Tallulah Jane Doe. ... but maybe not.

Do you think it's worth submitting?

Look at the 2nd pic of Jane and the 1st pic of the UID... something about the eyes... maybe it's just me?

These remains were skeletal so any resemblance in the eyes is coincidental. The eyes are quite similar though.

It says that Jane has dentals available... maybe an easy rule out.. (then maybe not...)

I am going to submit... It can't hurt.. The UID hasn't been identified as of yet.

I sent an email yesterday to Mary Manhein, contact for the UID, and she read it... (I put on a read receipt)... but she didn't respond...

I got an email back from Helen Bouzon:

I checked the dental charts and the two do not match based on 16 different teeth. Assuming all of Jane’s dental information was entered correctly, the two cannot match.
Helen

Glad she is one to actually check what we send in...

Hi there, I was wanting opinions on this possible match.

A Jane Doe was found December 24th Lousiana who was bludgeoned to death.
http://doenetwork.org/cases/163ufla.html

She wore a Dallas cowboys jumper and so using that as a possible clue to her origins, I looked for auburn haired teens from Texas and Bertha Sieg came up, who was from Dallas and ran away after an argument with her mother.

The age is slightly out, the weight is wrong but the time line is good and looking at the teeth of Jane Doe and the smiling photo of Bertha I see similarities.

Would love other opinions.

I'd say that's definitely our Jane Doe. I'd submit.

I mentioned her on this thread last year, but didn't have a photo of her at the time. Now that we have a photo, I'd say that the teeth are definitely consistent.

If you want me to send an e-mail to Helen Bouzon, I'd be glad to. But this is your find, so I'll let you submit if you wish to.

The teeth look extremely similar.

Bertha Sieg was missing from Duncanville, TX and Jane Doe was found in Tallulah, LA.

I'm not sure if it matters, but I tend to look at easy interstate routes to determine likelihood that the victim could have traveled to a certain location.

These places are slightly less than 6 hours apart, and most of the trip is straight down I-20:

Is Helen the contact for this?

Here's the two email addresses I saw on this page:

http://doenetwork.org/cases/163ufla.html

faces@lsu.edu : THE LSU FACES LABORATORY 225-578-4761

mpso@louisiana-internet.net : Madison Parish Sheriff's Department 318-574-1831

ETA: Here's the Duncanville Police dept info. They handled Bertha Sieg's case (Duncanville Police Department 972-223-6111)

She's the go-to person at LSU Faces lab. They are the people who are in charge of the Tahlula Jane Doe case.

I left a voicemail with Mary Manhein, who is the head of LSU Faces lab. I suppose we will have to wait until Monday for her to call back.

Thank you both for the validation. Technically you spotted the possibility first Carl, I was just lucky enough to spot it with the photo.
I have sent the possibility to Helen and will keep everyone posted. I will also look into contacting those involved with the Bertha Sieg case, just to cover all bases. Thanks Yorik for the visual of how easy it would have been for her to get to the destination. It's almost a straight line.
I wonder if this was a case of hitchhiking gone wrong and her being young trusting the wrong people.

Thanks Carl for calling it in. Being in Australia, that kind of thing isn't quite practical for me. Another doe with a name found. Fingers crossed.
