MA MA - Melanie Melanson, 14, Woburn, 27 Oct 1989

Just saw on the news they received three phone calls about Melanie's remains possibly being near a Stoneham reservoir. They were there today with cadaver dogs.

Cadaver dogs searching for a Massachusetts girl who disappeared 23 years ago have zeroed in on a small patch of parkland close to where an anonymous tipster recently suggested authorities check.

A private investigator leading the search for 14-year-old Melanie Melanson told FoxNews.com that three dogs were alerted to a small area of land during Saturday's search of Middlesex Fells Reservation. The girl was five days shy of her 15th birthday when she vanished in October 1989, after attending a party with friends in a wooded area near the Woburn-Stoneham town line. Authorities believe the girl was killed, but her body has never been found and no suspects have ever been named in the case.

In the months leading up to that tip, Garrigan says he fielded two other calls suggesting teams search those areas. The call last week confirmed the information he received.
Garrigan said the caller had been sitting on the information for the past nine years and became “very emotional” talking about it.
“They needed to come forward. They can’t imagine the family’s pain and suffering,” he said. “I believe we’re closer than we’ve ever been.”

Hopefully they will find something this weekend!

The search continues in Woburn today for evidence that might lead to the 1989 disappearance of 14-year-old Melanie Melanson.

Excavators have been working since early this morning, sifting through dirt in an area near railroad tracks on Montvale Avenue. Soil that was tested in the area in November came back positive for human remains, said Alan Tate, a private investigator and founder of Mission for the Missing, the organization funding the dig............

The importance of the search for the sake of Marriott’s family could not be overstated, said Frank Masciulli, uncle of Melanie Melanson, who went missing exactly 23 years ago on Saturday in Woburn, Mass. Melanson’s relatives were on Peirce Island Sunday, providing meals for the searchers.

I was looking on a Texas missing person website and was scrolling through all the unidentified individuals and happened to find this one http://www.harriscountytx.gov/CmpDocuments/21/UDF2011/1989-11-26-7407.pdf. To see a picture of the girl, scroll down till you get to the date 11/26/1989. http://www.harriscountytx.gov/ifs/UnidentifiedDecedentFliers.aspx
I thought she looked young and with having braces I decided to do a google search of missing teenage girl 1989 braces orthodontics ....and on the first page of my search Melanie Melanson's named showed up. I think she looks very similar to the UID and the dates are amazingly close.

I also wanted to add that I didn't think the UID really looked Hispanic......but that is just my opinion.

Perhaps it's just a gut feeling but I think that if we found Treska's car, we'd also find Melanie.

Abandoned quarries and deep water lakes with public boat ramps would be the first places I would look.

Another year has passed, and another billboard along Interstate 93 is being displayed. It still asks the same question more than two decades later: Where is Melanie Melanson?

"Melanie's not missing. Melanie didn't run away. She didn't disappear. Melanie is a murder victim," Melanson's aunt Maryann Masciulli said...

Her family has forgiven the people they believe killed their niece, but they cannot absolve what has happened since. "But now 25 years later they're adults. They have children of their own. Look at your child, your niece, your nephew, your own child -- one day just gone," Cail said.

Hello I hope you guys can help me with this any advice or insight at all would be helpful.
In 1989 on October 27th a group of about 12-20 teenagers went to a common partying spot in Woburn ma. The area is a wooded area behind an industrial park on Henshaw St next to a small river. In this area the teenagers would drink, smoke and have fires. On the 27th, Melanie Melanson, a 14 year old freshman from Woburn high school told her parents she was staying at a friends and became the youngest of the group. The party went on until the late hours into the 28th and many of the partygoers went home. As only a couple people were left Jimmy Treska drove some of his friends home leaving Eugene Bertino and Melanie alone. I have read that Eugene claimed Jimmy was last one with her and vice versa. I have also read Gene claimed that he left Melanie bc he only had one motorcycle helmet and that she wAlked opposite direction of him (which is NOT the way to her house/friends house).
I have read on a couple websites that Jimmy TreskA had a shovel that appeared broken and covered in dirt and also that Jimmy's car was "stolen" right after Melanie went missing. I have not found much information about the investigation in 89 and 90 but I will try to give a timeLine of the efforts in years after.
1992: Anonymous tips that Melanie is in a local pond. I believe there were two unsuccessful dives.
2009: An anonymous tip to search in the Middlesex Fells in Stoneham "reopens" case
9/2009: Excavation of the land behind industrial park.
2010: Another search at the location of the party
2011: Search of Ran Dr. (Residence of one of the suspects as well as connecting to the party woods), searching of party spot again.
4/2011 Eugene Bertini is arrested for armed robbery in Wakefield. He REFUSES Dna test, there is a long document online about the refusal.
12/2011 Dogs give signs of human remains at McDonalds in Woburn following an anonymous tip.
2012 A very emotional man from NH calls tipLine anonymously saying that Melanie is buried in Middlesex Fells in Stoneham. I believe I read that someone claims they had seen Eugene coming out covered in soil at some point in time close to 89.
7/2012: Dogs detect area of interest in Fells but nothing is found.

"Investigators dig in Woburn backyard for teen missing since 1989"

http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/29782910/investigators-dig-in-woburn-backyard-for-missing-teen

Over the years, the woods where Melanson was last seen have been searched extensively. There have been other digs. But right now, investigators are focused on one backyard. It is an area they have long wanted to search.

Forensic Anthropologist Dr. Ann Marie Mires is directing the search and says if she is there, "We'll find her."

A cadaver dog, ground penetrating radar, and witness statements have all led investigators to the backyard. Woburn police closely watch, as Dr. Mires and her team methodically examine three areas here.

Over 25 Years Later, Case for Missing Woburn Teen Reopened

Any news in this case? I live pretty close to Woburn. Obviously one or both of those boys did something to her but to stay quiet all these years and not rat on each other is crazy! Hate that these people are still free and living near me and my family.

Cops Still Seek Leads In Cold Case Of Teen Who Vanished from a Party 26 Years Ago

http://crimefeed.com/2016/03/happened-melanie-melanson-15-vanished-party-26-years-ago/

Family members believe that Melanie’s body may have been moved since then, especially after the heat turned up on the searches.

Alan Tate, a licensed professional investigator and founder of Mission for the Missing, has been working on Melanie’s case for years, and has said that multiple ground searches have taken place, but haven’t turned up any new information, bodies, or leads.

At this point, there have been no formal suspects, arrests, or persons of interests named.
