Fox and friends discussing the pictures of the two passengers with fake passports. Apparently everyone noticed the legs are the same. Malaysia says the accidentally photocopied them with one picture over the other!!! ( wow). But haven't released the correct pictures!!! Are these people just incompetent or is something else going on?

I'm sure this has been suggested before, but is there any possibility that this 3 tonnes of mangostieens or whatever they are called might in fact be a cover for something else?

No one would raise an eyebrow if the search didn't find one single mangosteen floating around down there - so its not like anyone would retrospectively ever raise the issue of "Hey... where the **** did all those mangosteens end up? Three tonnes of them and we never recovered one!" and it is a nice non hazardous way to explain the otherwise secret three tonne of weight calculations in the cargo when the investigators go through it all...

I doubt it matters if they float or not... if they were never on board to start with who's going to know the wiser now?

Everything you wanted to know about mangosteens, except whether they float.

Edit. Jinks Jerseygirl.

I think they both sink and float:

As for the mystery of mangosteens with different densities and floating or sinking propensities, I have no clue what the answer is but they make for great conversation starters when you ask someone “why do you think some mangosteens sink while others float?” — air inside the fruit? ripeness? density? worms? …

Sightings were about an hour into the search part of the flight . . . and the spots fairly regularly paced after that for 1.5 hours. #MH370

You could be onto something. Just found this article saying

The mangosteen is tropical fruit and it plant at latitude country. It cannot tolerate temperatures below 4.44º C nor above 37.78º C. The tree takes about 7 to 10 years to grow up before its produce any mangosteen fruit.
The mangosteen tree can reach a height of 7 meters until 30 meters. The wood is very dark in colour and flaking with evergreen leaves .The flowers are about 5 cm long with contain four leaves. The mature Mangosteen fruit able to reach a size of 7 cm. The trees require rich soil with good drainage. In Malaysia it’s planted at below 1,500 ft ,450 m from sea level.

BBM - See thread #38 (June 2014)

Seriously though, surely they will have to release the manifest soon, the countries that are searching have the right to know what they're looking for.

Military radar last recorded the signal at 2:22 a.m. about 200 nautical miles northwest of Butterworth, according to an image of the radar track.

The Malaysian government said it received Inmarsat's data on March 12 and spent three days analyzing and vetting it with investigators from the United States before redirecting the search on March 15.

They have been saying for weeks now that they see objects or debris I just want to know when there is something actually recovered

HMAS Success is in the vicinity and hopes to be there within hours to recover the objects.

Hishammuddin said Malaysian police have interviewed over 100 people, including the families of both the pilot and co-pilot.

“As far as the transcript is concerned, the technical committee is considering releasing it and we will keep you informed about the decision,” he said.

“The Inspector General of the Police will attend tomorrow’s press conference to answer further questions on the investigation.

The police have the manifest, perhaps they will answer questions relating during the press conference.

MALAYSIA Airlines has revealed the co-pilot of its missing jet was flying the Boeing 777 for the first time without a so-called “check co-pilot” looking over his shoulder.

Co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid has come under intense scrutiny, along with Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, after Malaysian authorities said flight MH370’s disappearance was due to “deliberate” action in the cockpit.

However, nothing has yet emerged publicly to implicate the two men

If the sighted objects are confirmed to be from MH370, what happens next?

According to ABC Lateline tonight, the recovery operation for the plane's back box will be the most complex in history. An interview with David Mearns, Blue Water Recoveries, a marine scientist involved with the recovery of Air France 447 has given some insight into the recovery operation. If the sightings are confirmed to be wreckage from MH370, the next step will be to continue to find more pieces of wreckage. Remnants retrieved after a modern jetliner crashes into water have tended to be relatively small and they often end up being found many miles from the initial point of impact. Along with collecting as much as pieces of wreckage as possible, important clues could be obtained from any satellite images taken earlier than the ones we have seen, preferably taken no more than a day or two after the plane crashed. These will help pinpoint where, on the seabed, the overwhelming part of the plane is located.

Locating the black box will be extremely difficult, the acoustic range of the black box pinger is around 2,000 metres so you would have to be virtually on top of it to pick up the signal. Furthermore, already half of its battery life has gone.

It's too early to hazard a guess on how long it will take for the recovery effort. It will be on a completely different scale of uncertainty to Air France 447, and it will be an uphill battle to recover the wreckage on the seabed. In the case of Air France the period of uncertainty from the last know position to the moment it crashed into the sea was only 280 secs, compared to hours of uncertainty with this aircraft. This is compounded by the remoteness of the location and deteriorating weather conditions.

Below is the media release by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority pertaining to the search and rescue mission of MH370:

The weather forecast in the search area is expected to deteriorate with rain likely.

Today’s search is split into two areas within the same proximity covering a cumulative 68,500 square kilometres.

Three civil aircraft will be involved in search activities today. These are two Bombardier Global Express planes and an Airbus aircraft. A total of 20 State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers from Western Australia will again be air observers on board the civil aircraft. Ten volunteers will be on board the Airbus, and five volunteers will be on each of the Bombardier Global Express aircraft.

All three civil aircraft will also have an AeroRescue Aviation Mission Coordinator on board. Aerorescue is AMSA’s contracted provider of dedicated search and rescue services from locations across Australia.

Two Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft from China have been tasked by AMSA to join today’s search, together with two P3 Orion aircraft from Japan. The two Chinese aircraft are now en route to the search area.

The United States Navy P8 Poseidon will also be a part of today’s search activities, along with two Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) P3 Orion aircraft.

Departure times of aircraft will be provided later today.

BBM - BOTH! IMO

"oopsies! We messed up the photos of the two Iranian passengers traveling on stolen passports"
I don't buy it.

These poor families. They are tormented, physically and emotionally. :please:

11:52pm: Kuala Lumpur: Eighteen days after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines MH370 investigations are leading away from the pilots who have been key suspects in one of modern aviation’s most baffling mysteries.

But sources close to the investigation say it has now veered away from a hijacking or terrorist attack to the possibility of a mechanical failure, explosion or fire on board.

Background checks on the pilots, crew and passengers have failed to reveal any links to extremist organisations, including two Iranian men travelling on stolen passports.

I totally agree. That is why so many people are critical of Malaysia. Even the simplest things they seem to be hiding. Obviously they were transporting hazardous cargo and they probably were not supposed to.

But, who is going to police this, the government owns the airline!

News conference in 50mins after an emergency meeting with families in Bejing.

Can anyone who lives in the general region of the search area answer a question for me? Is there ever a time when the ocean is calmer than it is now -- a "quiet season," if you will? I was wondering -- if weather prevents a thorough underwater search right now -- if there will come a time in a few months for a comprehensive search.

To clarify, I'm not suggesting the search should wait. What I'm asking is, if it turns out they find enough pieces to definitively say it's the plane -- but weather prohibits them from finding more than a few pieces -- might there be a "quiet season" when searchers can return to continue the recovery process.
