Pilot on CNN Disputes Hijacking Theory, Suggests Catastrophic Event

He argues that the known flight profile could be consistent with a lengthy "auto-pilot off" uncontrolled phase after an initial catastrophic event.
At the very least, this could fit the timeline:
1:19 -- (No problems): "Alright, good night"
1:21 -- Catastrophic event disables crew and many systems.
Transponder/ACARS knocked out. Turns and altitude changes uncontrolled.

I hate to say it, but if ACARS/transponder went out after the co-pilot's final words (and very probably at the same instant), the CNN pilot is right and it's still quite possible this was an accident and not a hijacking.

Has he suggested where the crashed plane might be?

Would want to know why two individuals with stolen passports could not purchase their own tickets? Why did Mr. Ali have to buy them, and then return to Iran?

They are saying that the sharp turn back was preprogrammed into the flight plan! That means it was planned ahead of time which doesn't make sense if this was an accident.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/03/17/pilots-become-focus-malaysia-airlines-investigation/

Not one official has yet confirmed the "preprogrammed" left turn. ABC made one very vague report claiming it occurred:

Adding to the intrigue, ABC News reported that the dramatic left turn was preprogrammed into the plane's navigation computer. It's a task that would have required extensive piloting experience.

Did this really happen? How do we know? What exactly was pre-programmed and when was it done? The turn could well have been part of a normal flight profile to Beijing (perhaps followed by a subsequent right turn). We need much more information to determine what this nugget means. It absolutely could be an indication of a diversion, but not without further details. Frustrating.

Plus this:
Authorities had said Sunday that the words were heard around 1:30 a.m. local time, nearly a half hour after the plane’s data recorder was turned off and 10 minutes after its transponder was deactivated.

NO WORDS were heard at 1:30am. This has been a point of confusion, but has been clarified. The actual communications could still plausibly fit with a catastrophic event rather than a hijack:

1:19AM-- Last words from MH370, "Alright good night"
1:22AM-- Transponder off and unusual flight maneuvers start.
1:30AM-- Nearby plane contacts MH370, hears "buzz" and incoherent "mumbling".
1:37AM-- ACARS system fails to send its scheduled update.

The 1:30AM "mumbling" could be a disabled crew member after a catastrophe -- or it could be hijackers. There is no proof either way.

I don't know what happened. Information released has been repeatedly wrong and revised by later releases. Until we learn more, the CNN pilot is right that it is still at least possible this incident was not a hijacking but something else.

Good grief.
I have 61 bookmarks just for "Missing Malaysia Airlines Plane."

:scared:

He suggested in the "catastrophic accident" scenario, it would have flown uncontrolled as the ACARS pings indicated until it ran out of fuel and crashed.

Much like the Helios hypoxia incident many posters have discussed.

THE massive search for missing flight MH370 will today be expanded into areas of the Southern Indian Ocean off Western Australia.

The initial search is planned to occur in daylight in the Southern Indian Ocean west of Perth, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said.

An Australian Defence Force aircraft is being relocated from the Cocos Islands to Perth for the operation and will operate out of Royal Australian Air Force Base Pearce, near Perth

Unless this plane is found there may never be an answer. Even then will we know for sure?

I think the problem is name confusion and both being professors. Confident we can all agree that the notion of several professors out of 239 folks is not farfetched!

What has transpired: When the passenger manifest was released Sat morn after it vanished the MAL govt released the whole thing. Later when Chinese govt released it THEY blocked passenger 84. Think about it - it would make sense that Chinese govt would be more aware of this guy and his affilation with the Ulger movement IN China.

But since the unblocked one had already been posted here it is. NOte 84 name !

ANG/LUYANGMR CHN 60 82 LIANG/XUYANG CHN 30 83 LIM/POWCHUAMS MYS 43 84 LIN/ANNANMR CHN 27 85 LIN/MINGFENG CHN 34

http://www.ibtimes.com/malaysia-air...fest-released-public-search-continues-1560423

Then the blocked one:

(The professor who is alive and well I have just spent 20 minutes trying to find it. His name was like Dhazimier or something – if someone knows off hand where it is that is great.and can repost great TIA!

So what I am saying if Ananon is the "bad" one, and on the plane and being investigated, (his skill set : He “designed an integrated future soldier training system based on sensors, communication subsystems and integrated-helmet subsystems and performed simulations for real-time,” according to the CV.) - ) he was also taking flying lessons

AND ....... a professor, ........

....and another professor whose name Dhazimier or somethig not on the flight( and all good and well)..... how does the fact the Dhazimier or something not being on the plane have any relevance to Interpol being concered about Ananon being on the plane AND blocked from the manifest?

Where am I missing something?

Bbm. This is my impression today (it changes daily). Except I don't think it was hypoxia, I think it was injury/death of the pilots and no one was left to navigate. It flew until it crashed for whatever reason (fuel spent, lack of navigator, whatever). JMO.

IMHO -- the Stimulator is the Key!

Who has one of these at home?

(off topic but...) In the 9/11 event, the men were taking Pilot lessons right under everyone nose. They went undetected for that. So this Home Stimulator means something...practice makes perfect for many flight conditions!!

Terrorism always seem to be things of a drastic (weird ) nature that you would not ever expect to happen -- but in a Movie. This is just too weird to happen naturally. It is a calculated act (MOO)

Too weird to be natural. Big Planes just do not vanish off the face of the earth without any salvage?? IMHO....100% terrorism, and that is just MY point of view.

MOO

Nope, in every crash invesigation the cockpit voice recorder is huge. It tells the story. What problem were the pilots wrestling with (dialog), what did the problem "sound" like - (a bang,a wuish a ,thud etc) how intense was the problem to them (stress levels in voice), what actions were they trying (lowering flaps/spolilers/raising lower gear etc) how was the aircraft behaving in response to those inputs, what checklists were they running. what information what they focusing on (thrust/heading/pitch/altitude etc)...it tells what started issue, intervention and outcome...usually : "End of recording".

In addition, NTSB often listens to the sounds of switches on the tape. And yes they have different sounds . This has helped them immeensly (Ie gear retraction called for but the sound of the switch which lowers the flaps is HEARD and then altitude starts to plummet indicating indeed the flap switch was flipped ) Error

They can hear the engines and run them analyize them to determine how much power each was putting out ...spooling up spooling down etce tc

In the old days, the importance of what was going on the final chapters aboard aircraft in distress were only 30 minutes loops - illustrating that, logically, in terms of investigation and finding causation, what happened in the final moments tells an awfull about the problem, the attemted solustion, alitude callouts, if falling from thee sky wind noise, and brainsotrming by the crew

It flew so long all we would get is the either the crash or landing... but the mystery of flight 370 is the first 2 hours not the last.......................isn't it?

Lots of pilots do...one who posts here posted pictures of the one he has at home it looked amazing.
