Who Could End Up On The Jury For Casey's Trial?
"Snip" Updated: 6:37 am EDT May 6, 2011

ORLANDO, Fla. -- WFTV's legal analyst says lawyers want jurors who aren't opportunists, haven't already reached a verdict, and could sentence someone to death if the law called for it, and he says the defense will not want jurors who've smelled human decomposition.

The search is on first thing Monday morning for 20 people who can be fair to Casey Anthony and who can afford to spend two months or more away from families and jobs.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A state appeals panel could hand down a ruling on Friday that would delay Casey Anthony's trial for as much as six months.

The 5th District Court of Appeal has given a deadline of 10:00am Friday for Chief Judge Belvin Perry and the media outlets to submit their arguments.

If the media outlets win their arguments, Perry thinks the defense will want the trial postponed.

WPBF 25's investigative reporter Terri Parker called the jury service manager in each county to find out if any one of them seems more prepared for such a large event in just a few days.

When asked if the Anthony judge, Belvin Perry, had been at the Duval County courthouse recently to scout it out, as he did in Palm Beach County last week, Riley said: "Judge Perry comes here all the time. He tried a case here last year."

Spectators and media from across the country will gather outside the Orange County Courthouse on Orange Avenue for the trial. Nearly 600 members of the media are expected to come to Orlando for the trial.

Rental companies are trucking in portable offices that will become mini newsrooms for journalists stationed at the courthouse.

Crews have already begun setting up a special stage across the street to accommodate the media.

Mike Brooks is a law enforcement analyst for CNN, Headline News and TruTV. He said few trials have attracted the kind of national media coverage that the Anthony case has.

"It is going to be one of the most interesting cases I have seen in quite some time," Brooks said.

Only 33 news organizations, including CNN, People, Newsweek and Local 6, have seats in the courtroom, the rest will camped out outside.
A fenced-in plot of land next to the courthouse has been given the nickname "Casey Town." It will have electricity, water, telephone, Internet access and food vendors, but trial attendees are bound to spill out of Casey Town, and nearby businesses are getting ready for them.

As Casey Anthony trial nears, Zenaida Gonzalez civil suit waits in wings

Even though police have cleared this Zenaida Gonzalez of being involved in Caylee's murder, and even the Anthony family said this wasn't the same woman Casey told them about, she is still suing Casey for defamation.
The civil suit against Casey is expected to go to trial in August, just a few months after she goes on trial for murder.

Casey Anthony judge allowed to keep jury site secret

"Snip" By Jacqueline Fell and Adam Longo, Team Coverage
Last Updated: Friday, May 06, 2011 4:02 PM

Judge must tell everyone or no oneJury selection is scheduled to begin Monday for the Casey Anthony trial, but Judge Perry has kept the exact location a closely-guarded secret, saying he does not want any pretrial publicity in the area.

He has only told one lawyer on each side of the case where jury selection will be, and ordered the location be kept secret until Monday morning.

The three-judge appeals panel's ruling was mixed:

They denied part of the motion that would have forced Judge Perry to reveal the location earlier than planned.

But they granted an objection to Perry's plan to tell media outlets who sign a confidentiality agreement earlier than other parties.

Simply put: Judge Perry can keep the jury selection site a secret, but he cannot reveal that secret to select parties sooner than others. Either he tells everyone, or no one.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Cindy Anthony has scheduled a visit at the jail Saturday morning at 9:00. Casey has not responded through her lawyers to the Anthonys' ongoing request to visit.

Anthonys' lawyer believes the defense is shutting them out, because of its possible plan to pin Caylee's murder on possibly George.

Cindy is asking for the visit even though the video could become public.

At the same time, the three-judge panel ruled that Perry's confidentiality agreement, which he asked media outlets to sign, cannot stand.

The defense wanted to keep the Anthonys out.

Perry called the emergency hearing today to discuss two motions: the defense's objection to the new venue and the one filed by George and Cindy Anthony to attend the trial.

Details about why he filed or withdrew the objection, which is sealed, were not made public. Defense attorneys say they are not allowed to discuss the matter.

Mark Lippman, argued to allow George and Cindy Anthony to stay in the courtroom for the duration of the trial even though they are considered key witnesses and may be subject to sequestration.

Anthony's defense team objected.

Both the state and the defense said they plan to call the couple on numerous occasions to testify during the trial — slated to begin with opening statements on May 17 if a jury is seated.

George and Cindy Anthony are allowed in court during the duration of trial, but they have be seated in the balcony so the jury could not look to them for reaction.

The judge also said rules will be posted outside the courtroom. Anyone who breaks rules will be ejected immediately without warning.

George and Cindy Anthony not sure why Casey does not want them in court, Lippman said it's not clear whether Casey is making that decision or if it's a defense ploy.

New depositions were released today.

Cindy Anthony scheduled a visit at 9 a.m. Saturday with Casey Anthony at the Orange County Jail, said corrections spokesman Allen Moore.

Attorney: Unsure if defense will try to blame George Anthony

"We already released a statement that George had nothing to do with the untimely demise of their granddaughter," he said.
