Volunteers form Black Sheep Search and Rescue | July 7, 2011
MIDDLEBURG - Who would have imagined in 2009 that something positive would result from 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance from her bedroom in Satsuma?
Yet it was through that volunteer search effort that Green Cove Springs resident Charlie Waters and Terry "Sarge" Huffman of Keystone Heights met and subsequently formed Black Sheep Search and Rescue.
Black Sheep SAR is a group of men and women who train hard and work tirelessly in searches for missing persons.
Waters brings three years of Air Force training and dog handling experience to the table. Huffman brings nine years of Army wisdom. Together they choose volunteers for training that they feel will compliment their mission which reads, "Black Sheep Search and Rescue is committed to using all resources at our disposal to save lives and to assist those in need

"Some of them never get solved. Some of them you think you know who did it, but it never gets solved," said Special Agent in Charge James Casey.
He said one of those puzzling unsolved cases is the disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings in 2009. "We have no reason to believe that Haleigh was taken out of state," said Casey. Haleigh was never found.
Give it a minute to upload the video. It's the video that I find most telling with the SAC/FBI dude's facial expressions when asked by the reporter certain questions regarding HaLeigh Cummings.
There are still a lot of questions left in this case? How about start when the L/E first started their drug inv. Not the dog and poney show we all saw on TV... First contact...

But after weeks of federal review ... the federal groups told the Putnam County Sheriff's Office that local investigators had conducted a thorough investigation of the Haleigh Cummings case.
... local investigators did get advice from the feds on what to do next and that the case is still open. :woohoo:
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Lonzie Barton and Haleigh Cummings share strikingly similar disappearances. Action News Jax had previously discovered the two missing children are related.

“They're getting ready to work on a new age progression of Haleigh around the age of 11 or 12 so it's more current,” Piscitello said.
The cases were more similar than he thought -- Lonzie and Haleigh are distant cousins.
According to the appeal, Cummings, who was 17 at the time, claims that her lawyer told her she would be sentenced only to six years in prison under the Youthful Offender Act. Cummings claims she didn't understand any of the procedure because she was being treated with psychotropic drugs for depression and PTSD over the Haleigh case.
