Jury entering courtroom, to read verdict in #ChelseaBruck case shortly. Daniel Clay admitted in court he caused her death, hid her body.

(Just giving it a try.)

you need to add the link to twitter. Alex Mester@AlexMesterBlade

Okay so he was found guilty of felony murder and 2nd degree (or felony 2nd degree?) - and felony murder carries the same penalty as 1st degree, right?

Yes!

Felony Murder
A special category exists for murders committed in the perpetration of other crimes. If you commit murder in the perpetration or attempted perpetration any of the following you will face the same penalty as first-degree murder:

_--
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felony_murder_rule_(Michigan)

The felony murder rule was abolished in the state of Michigan by the 1980 decision People v. Aaron. The court reasoned that the commission of a felony should only be used as a grading factor between first and second degree murder, and not something that could independently make an offense punishable as murder.[SUP][1][/SUP]

Massive thanks, Spellbound! I am going to read the links for felony murder after putting the tots to bed (if not sooner.)

(Somehow missed the quote button!)

I was waiting to see a new post in the BREAKING NEWS thread when the verdict came in. So sad for Miss Chelsea but there is finally justice for this gross injustice.

Thanks again to everyone who kept this thread up with posts and tweets and articles and good thoughts and interesting questions and love for this young woman.

ETA: I see it now! BDE posted it when it came in but it had slid far down my forum list so I had not seen it. Glad it was posted there too - sometimes that gets people to read about a case they may not have seen before. Thanks BDE, I should have know you'd be on it!

JMO
I just got through reading previous testimony posts here and I think this guy decided he was going to have sex with her whether she wanted to or not.

First off, there is no way she would have suggested choking. No way.

I think he began choking her as she resisted him. I even doubt the first episode in the car even happened. Not sure if there was any corroborating evidence that that even happened. If it did happen I bet he just asked her to go to the car to smoke a J and she probably resisted him there and she thought that was the end of it.

I think he had scoped her out at the party and when he saw her leave he timed his leaving to follow her. I am not sure if she even voluntarily took a ride from him. I wonder if he clocked her right there on the side of the road and drug her into his car.

But even if we assume what he said was true about accepting the ride I am convinced that she wanted no part of sex with him in the car. I think she started to struggle right away and when he said it "started getting rough" or something like that what he means is he was forcing her to have sexual contact and she was resisting.

All of her injuries were due to him forcing himself on her. He hit her about the face. He choked her to keep control of her.

Remember he said one hand and then the other and sometimes both. That is a perfect description of someone trying to rape someone as they are struggling.

One of the only truthful things he said is he was waisted. He made up his mind to have sex with her and nothing was going to stop him.

He deserves this verdict by the jury. Good job jury.

This is a typical arrogant person and why he thinks any juror would believe the crap that he was telling us about her wanting to be choked shows the arrogant person he is.

Yes, jury got it right.

Prayers for Chelsea's family.

I'm trying to go back to earlier arguments today by the Defense and am a little unclear. Were they suggesting a manslaughter charge plus concealing the body or only manslaughter.

I'm just stuck on this because even if he didn't lie to LE regarding to where he left Chelsea he still admitted to putting logs over her.

Any insight or those that understood the tweets better would be most appreciated.
