Tree planting to be held to honor the missing Morenci boys

Missing boys remembered
Keeping alive the memories and the search for three missing local boys was the goal of a prayer vigil here Sunday.
About 100 people collected in Wakefield Park to pray, to hear tearful stories about Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner Skelton, and to be assured that family and friends will keep the pressure on until the search comes to closure.

Event planned for one year anniversary of Skelton boys disappearance
The family of the missing Skelton boys is planning an observance for the one-year anniversary of their disappearance.
Family friend Kathye Herrera said Tanya Zuvers, the boys’ mother, and her family are working to make the event at 2 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Morenci High School gym “different than a prayer vigil and give the people attending a program.”
The family will thank the community for their help in trying to bring home Andrew, Alexander and Tanner, who were 9, 7 and 5 when they disappeared Thanksgiving weekend last year. Hundreds of volunteers combed the countryside around Morenci looking for the boys for a week after they disappeared, drawing national attention to the community.

Event to honor missing brothers set for Nov. 27
The family of three boys missing for a year plans to thank the community during an event to mark the anniversary.

Family friend Kathye Herrera tells The Daily Telegram in Adrian that the event is scheduled for Nov. 27 at Lenawee County's Morenci High School near the Ohio-Michigan border.

Police plan canvass in case of missing brothers
It’s been nearly one year since three young brothers went missing from their Lenawee County hometown.

In the year since the Thanksgiving disappearance of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton, hundreds of volunteers launched a futile search of this Michigan-Ohio border town and its vast surrounding farms, woods and waters.
Ten months later, their father, John Skelton, was sentenced to 10-15 years in prison after pleading no contest to unlawful imprisonment and steadfastly refusing to tell of their whereabouts.

Tanya Zuvers is the mom of brothers Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton. The boys went missing Thanksgiving last year when their father, John Skelton, failed to return them after a scheduled visitation.

No cludes gained immediately from flyers on 3 missing boys
-- Morenci police, Michigan State Police, and the FBI passed out about 130 flyers early Friday looking for clues in the case of three Morenci boys who disappeared a year ago.
Morenci police were hoping for a breakthrough but that did not occur, authorities said.
The flyers were handed out from 4 to 7 a.m. at U.S. 127 and Morenci Road, with the hope they would stop people who were out at the same time last year, which is when authorities say the boys' father, John Skelton, was using his cell phone and could have been driving.

Morenci police seeks tips on 3 missing brothers at 1 year anniversary
Morenci police canvassed an intersection Friday, hoping to get new tips about three missing brothers who disappeared a year ago and to give information about the boys.
Police Chief Larry Weeks said officers made contact with about 129 vehicles early in the morning at the intersection of U.S.-127 and Morenci Road -- an area police believe the boys' father, John Skelton, was driving during the same hours a year earlier.

As relatives maintain hope that three local boys who vanished a year ago in the midst of their parents’ contentious divorce will turn up, Morenci Police Chief Larry Weeks apologized during a vigil Sunday for the dearth of progress in the case.

Search group expands area of operations
The volunteers of Shiawassee Search and Rescue said 2011 was a busy inaugural year.
Convinced their talents and training could be better utilized without the restrictions of county borders, the group took steps in May to incorporate as a non-profit organization.
Since then, SSAR has conducted numerous searches in and around Morenci in an effort to locate the Skelton brothers, three boys who have been missing since Thanksgiving Day 2010.

Courtney Derby won't be convinced that her three younger brothers are forever gone.

The Skelton boys — Tanner, 7, Alexander, 9, and Andrew, 10 — made national news in 2010 when they vanished from this tiny rural town on Thanksgiving Day while in their father's care.

"People ask me, 'how do you still have hope?' Well, you never lose it," Derby, 21, said in a recent interview with The Detroit News.

"My heart just doesn't tell me they are gone."

Three Brothers Missing After Two Years
It’s been two years since 3 brothers from Morenci, Michigan disappeared and now, friends and family are holding an event to make sure to they’re not forgotten.

On November 25th, supporters will gather at Wakefield Park, where three trees have been planted in honor of Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton. During the event, organizers will unveil a memorial plaque and are also hoping to reveal age-progession photos of the boys in hopes of finally finding where they are.

On Thanksgiving-eve in 2010, Tanya Zuvers last saw her sons alive.
Last year, Tanya recounted what she remembered of the events surrounding that day to 7 Action News.
She says she hugged and kissed them as she dropped the boys off at their grandmother’s house that November 26 .
Two days later her life changed forever.
“I said I love you and I said I’ll see you on Friday,” Tanya said.
