GUILTY MS - Janaya Thompson, 5, raped & murdered, Gulfport, 16 July 2014

Quite a glaring omission/oversight in their first version.

That's really NOT a little detail, IMO.

That's why I don't always have faith in the reporters. A detail left out like that starts all sorts of rumors and speculation before the correction is made.

My heart is just breaking into a million pieces for the little darling and her family. I would never want to know their heartache and hell that they are going through right now.

I agree with the person above who said that it had to be someone local, someone that obviously knew that the trailer was abandoned for three days. This was planned in my eyes, not sure if the little darling was the intended victim (as in, the sicko that did this to her might have grabbed another child if she wasn't there). But they knew about this empty trailer, and knew they could do this heinous crime without being caught so fast.

I do have one question, though. What made them look in this trailer, and how did they find out that it had just been abandoned?

As I sit here and look at my 5 year old sitting on the other sofa playing his leappad, I cannot cannot cannot CANNOT imagine finding his sweet little body in an abandoned trailer! Makes me lose my breath! I am so sad that there is such evil in this world. Poor baby. I am so sorry you had to have ever learned about that evil, much less at 5 years old!

darn it :( just read the news that a body was found.

Jarmal Thompson believes the man involved in his daughter's death volunteered to help search for her.
The man gave him and relatives a ride during the search, kept disappearing, and a brown hair barrette was later found in the man's car, Thompson said.
"They showed it to me but I didn't want to tamper with evidence," he said.
He said the trailer was vacated three days ago.
Police have released no details yet.
"It was surreal," he said.
Thompson said the child's mother is grief-stricken and was taken to a hospital.
"One of us has to be strong," he said.

This bothers me. If the family rode in this man's car, anyone could have put one of her barrettes there. I assume the father is the one who found it since he said that he didn't want to tamper with evidence. Hmmm.

Cedric Boykin is upset because he believes a man he saw during the overnight search should be a prime suspect in the investigation. He said the man was at the scene helping in the search Wednesday night. Boykin noticed the man had what looked like a bite mark and cuts on his arm. "Cuts and bruises all that on his hands, on his neck. He was bleeding. He was holding his hand, trying to cover it up"...

Janaya's father also suspects that same man could be to blame for his daughter's disappearance and death. Thompson told WLOX News the man lives in The Palms Apartments, off Three Rivers Road in Gulfport. Thompson believes the man knew his daughter's everyday life and may have targeted her...

WLOX News asked investigators about the mystery man, and they confirmed that they spoke with him, but wouldn't say anything further about their interaction with the man. Police have been tight-lipped about their investigation, and as of Thursday night, they had not released any information about potential suspects or leads in the case. However, crime scene investigators were spotted at The Palms Apartments Thursday night, searching an apartment in building 12. That's the building next door to where Janaya lived.

An autopsy is expected to be performed by this morning. Hargrove said the FBI in Jackson was sending an emergency-response team member to attend the autopsy with a Gulfport police detective and to help go over the evidence.
District Attorney Joel Smith said foul play is suspected.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

I'm looking at the dude, why is that dude doing all that? The man came to us, and I noticed all the cuts and marks on him and he was like, 'Well, I was helping look for her, and I've been up all night.'"

If you go to wlox.com you can probably see a video from it.

Cod was strangulation. They have arrested two poi's on unrelated charges I believe. They said one was arrested for rape and another for burglary. There is a 3rd poi that is cooperating with LE. They said they wouldn't comment about any other things that might have happened to her because they're awaiting test results. I'm on my phone but I'll try to find an article or a link to the PC.

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Janaya Thompson was strangled. That's the word from Coroner Gary Hargrove, but few others details about the girl's death are going to be revealed at this time, because of the ongoing investigation.

Two people have been arrested from evidence gathered in the investigation, but neither is charged with a crime directly related to the girl's death.

(snip)

That investigation led to the arrests of Julian Gray and Alberto Julio Garcia. Both men live at 1475 Whitney Drive, which is the trailer where the young girl's body was found Thursday morning.

Gray is charged with the rape of a woman; Garcia is charged with residential burglary.

Chief Papania also talked about a man who has been mentioned as a suspect on social media, and by folks who helped in the search for Janaya. He stressed that that man was not a suspect, and has been cooperating with police. The chief said initial reports that the man had bite marks on his arm were false.

Reports of man who helped searched having bite marks false, not a suspect per LE.
