GUILTY MS - Janaya Thompson, 5, raped & murdered, Gulfport, 16 July 2014

This really hurts my heart because she has the same name as my granddaughter. I'm so fed up with these innocent children being abused and killed.

I've been in Biloxi, adjoining Gulfport, all week and can't believe I didn't hear about this story until this morning and I have watched the news. I'm heartbroken for this sweet child.

Can you say meth? Bet money. Just saying. ole Julian will turn out to be involved in Janaya's murder. :twocents: :moo:

RIP little angel. Prayers for her family and friends. May justice be swift and severe!

That investigation led to the arrests of Julian Gray and Alberto Julio Garcia. Both men live at 1475 Whitney Drive, which is the trailer where the young girl's body was found Thursday morning.

Garcia is accused of a residential burglary that occurred July 12 at 14475 Whitney Dr., the same address where Thompson's body was found.

OK. I'm sick today, but to quote the Lost in Space robot, "This does not compute." I can see the difference in street addy as a typo, but: They are living at the same place Garcia is accused of burglarizing? If this makes sense someone tell me, and I'll take my temp and go lie down.

That is crazy...but google says there is no 1475 so it must be 14475.

This article is now gone but I checked the one in the previous comment and it said the following about these two men:

Both men are residents at The Palms Apartments, the same complex where Thompson lived with her family, authorities said.

That would make more sense. Thanks, smc.

Reporters. Bah. Checking sources is our friend. Proofreading is our friend. Relying on spell check can be an awful mistake. Better to be second with the story and correct than first with it and wrong, Ms./Mr. Reporter Ma'am, Sir.

No kidding - it is getting so bad. Everyone relies on spell-check and they run that and say it's all good. I have noticed this a lot not just in the news but in books that are published. So many times lately in what I have been reading they have used the wrong word. It completely throws me out of what I am reading.

But I would definitely expect better of reporters. They are supposed to be reporting the facts and they should give it a second or third look before publishing.

Two Men Possibly Connected to Murder...
WKRG - Mobile, AL

"Gray was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of sexual battery for an incident involving a woman in April. Garcia was also arrested Thursday on a burglary charge for allegedly breaking into the same trailer Thompson's body was found in days before her murder. The murder has the community in mourning."

How disgusting and infuriating! Should Gray have been arrested earlier? Certainly sounds like it. Would this sweet little girl be alive today if he had been? Maybe he was hiding... :dunno: So very sad.

I was wondering if it was just me, seeing that no one else picked up on that. That is a head scratcher. First, they both live at the trailer she was found in, then one of the suspects burglarized it. Which is it? I thought that the trailer had been abandoned? didn't one of the neighbors say it's been abandoned for two weeks now, instead of three days, as originally reported?

Again, this is why I don't have much faith in reporters anymore. Garbage like this makes me sick. We're talking about a baby being brutally murdered here by strangulation, how about doing your damn research FIRST and post the CORRECT facts?? But no, that would take precious time and energy, and we can't waste time if we want to be the first to post the story!

I'm with whoever said the guy currently not arrested that police say is not a suspect IS involved. I bet they're considering him a POI or something since he's currently cooperating and they're waiting on more or something.

Even if there's not the bites now, he's also the one that had the hair thing of hers...(which her dad didn't want to mess w/ because of it likely being evidence.

Or else this is ONE unlucky dude...

Family members and people at the crime scene said police questioned a man Wednesday night and let him go. They said the man had a bite mark and scratches on his hands.

Police officials said the man was interviewed but was not arrested.

Thompson believes the man involved in his daughter's death volunteered to help search for her.

The man gave him and relatives a ride during the search, kept disappearing, and a hair barrette was later found in his car, Thompson said.

"They showed it to me but I didn't want to tamper with evidence," he said.

None of that makes any sense - them burglarizing the place they live?

And how are they living in a place that everyone said was vacant / abandoned? (And yes, whoever asked above, one did specify two weeks ago it was abandoned - put that as the last of all of these) But it sure wasn't just one saying it was abandoned...these were just a few who did!

The overnight search for 5-year-old Janaya Thompson ended after 12 hours when her body was found about 8:45 a.m. Thursday in a vacant mobile home on Whitney Drive, just north of her family's apartment at The Palms on Klein Road.

Her body was found 12 hours later, in an abandoned trailer just minutes away from where she lived.

The body of a missing 5-year-old girl was found today in a vacant mobile home near her apartment, and her death is being investigated as a homicide, Gulfport police said.

Tracy White lives in the neighborhood where the abandoned trailer is located. He said it was abandoned two weeks ago.

"A couple of adults and a couple of children were there," stated White. "They always had people living there. A lot of people."

they lived at Palms the same complex Janaya lived in but different building. The one guy in custody had previously been accused of robbing the trailer where Janaya was eventually found. The guy with the rape charges was apparently the roommate to the guy alleged to have robbed and therefore have familiarity or knowledge of the trailer.

I am thinking Julian may have been an accomplice to the burglary at the trailer and that explains their familiarity with the location and possibly its use as the scene of the murder (speculating here no links to back it up)

One faces sex-crime charges involving a woman he knows. The other is accused in a break-in last week at a vacant mobile home at 14475 Whitney Drive, where Janaya's body was found Thursday. Both men live at The Palms, the Klein Road apartment complex where Janaya also lived.

Janaya was reported missing Wednesday night, prompting a massive overnight search that included volunteers. She was found about 12 hours later in the bathroom of the nearby vacant mobile home, dead from asphyxiation by strangulation.

Alberto Julio Garcia, 29, was jailed at 5:40 a.m. Friday on a charge of residential burglary. Papania said Garcia is accused in the July 12 break-in at the mobile home where police found Janaya.

Gray and Garcia are each held on bonds of $500,000 set by Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner.

SPECULATION: vacant properties are sometimes burgled for scrap and for copper. Air conditioning units, plumbing and wiring are scrap and thieves and druggies break into vacant properties to steal those items. If the trailer has been vacant for several weeks but the break in occurred on July 12, likely scrap is what they were after. MOO

Yeah, copper was the first thing that came to mind for me.
