i keep looking thru papers and nothing new yet.

I keep looking too. WSOC TV is tweeting that the police are going to give an update soon and that a woman was seen being placed in handcuffs in connection with the case. That was almost an hour ago :(

Here's a link to their web site; there's also a link to their twitter.

There really is no info out so far. How do you not know your child is missing until 2:00 pm in the afternoon when you claim to have seen her early am hours ? :waitasec:

How do you not miss your child for (1) Breakfast and (2) Lunch ? Did they leave her alone and go to work ? WTH !

Maybe they had all been out really, really late and the parents slept in and assumed that she was still asleep?

...and cops got a search warrant this afternoon, which means they obviously have SOME type of evidence already.

Yikes! I haven't heard much about the parents or the family dynamics....and nothing has been said about the perp either. Wondering now if its a family member...

There is a video included in this article that shows good coverage of her....

Amber Alert issued for 10-year-old Hickory girl
By: News 14 Carolina Staff

HICKERY, N.C. — An Amber Alert remains in effect for a missing ten-year-old girl from Hickory.

Zahra Claire Baker is five feet tall and weighs 55 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes and a prosthetic left leg. She is also hearing impaired in both ears. Hickory police issued the Amber Alert Saturday afternoon after her father and step mother reported her missing.

The last time Zahra Baker's parents report seeing her was over 24-hours ago when she was asleep in her bed early Saturday morning. Now, agencies across North Carolina are looking for her and the Amber Alert is posted on highway signs across the state.

According to the officer interviewed in the video, both of the hearing aids were left at the house.

The stepmother of a missing Hickory girl was arrested Sunday morning on outstanding charges unrelated to the 10-year-old's disappearance.Police said details that have emerged in the past 12 hours make it seem less likely that a stranger abducted Zahra Clare Baker, who was reported missing a day earlier by her father, Adam, and stepmother, Elisa.
Elisa Baker was arrested on unrelated, outstanding charges around 10:45 a.m., police said. Details of those charges weren't released.
Police said Elisa Baker has not been eliminated as a person of interest in Zahra's disappearance.
They didn't release details of the ongoing investigation, but said it has revealed "inconsistencies." The father and stepmother were interviewed early in the investigation, and police were following up leads to corroborate their statements.
Elisa and Adam Barker reported Zahra missing around 2 p.m. Saturday. They said they had last seen her in sleeping in her bedroom at 21 21st Ave. NW around 2:30 a.m., police said.
"We continue to have concerns for her well-being," Libby Grigg, assistant to the Hickory police chief, said in a statement. "We are deeply concerned for the welfare of Zahra but remain hopeful that we will locate her safe and unharmed."

Hickory, N.C. — The stepmother of a missing Hickory girl was arrested Sunday morning on outstanding charges unrelated to the 10-year-old's disappearance.

Police said details that have emerged in the past 12 hours make it seem less likely that a stranger abducted Zahra Clare Baker, who was reported missing a day earlier by her father, Adam, and stepmother, Elisa.

I find it disturbing that someone supposedly saw her at 2:30 in the morning, but no one bothered to check on her in the morning. So, they cared enough in the middle of the night to look in on her, but not after the sun came up?

When my son was little, I checked on him numerous times throughout the night and his room was the first place I went when I woke up in the mornings, no matter what time it was.

Now we are hearing that the step-mother was arrested on unrelated charges? What are the charges? It seems highly unusual that the police would arrest a supposedly grieving and/or frantic parent (even though she is a step-parent) who is barely in the throes of looking for a missing child. Did the step-mother have something to do with Zahra's disappearance?

Where is this child's natural mother? I have not seen anything mentioned about her.

Not sounding good at all, hopefully they will get the truth of what happened to this child soon

Apparently LE got their search warrant...so we should know more soon. Not sounding good at all.

New details released in Amber Alert for 10-year-old

SNIPPED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Zahra Baker was last seen sleeping in her bedroom at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Her parents reported her missing at 1:59 p.m., nearly 12 hours later. They told investigators they waited so long because they thought she was still sleeping. Zahra's father and step-mother have been questioned and police are working to corroborate their statements.

Earlier Sunday, step-mother Elisa Baker was arrested on outstanding charges not related to the case, including larceny by an employee, two counts of communicating threats and six counts of worthless checks.

Police said the girl's father seemed to be cooperating with investigators.

Zahra Claire Baker was last seen asleep Saturday morning at her home on 21st Avenue Northwest. She was reported missing Saturday afternoon.

Since then, Hickory police have placed Zahra's stepmother Elisa Baker under arrest for unrelated charges, they say. However, police say Elisa Baker's account of the last few hours has been inconsistent therefore they have not ruled her out as a person of interest.

Yes, where is the girl's mother...

Also, does she have a "diagnosis"??? Hearing impaired with a prosthetic leg.... did she lose that leg and/or her hearing later? Or was she born with both?

I'm wondering if there is another diagnosis factoring in here that may cause other issues. Which may cause an already impatient stepmother to snap and abuse a child.

Such as behavioral...or problems sleeping. What if she didn't go to bed until 2:30am so it wouldn't be odd for her to sleep until 2pm?

Respectfully snipped.

I wonder if Zahra normally slept with her prosthetic leg on? I admit I'm not that knowledgeable about prosthetics, but my guess would be that she did not sleep with it on. If she was snatched, why would a kidnapper grab it? Not adding up.
I personally don't believe she would have. And no, a stranger abductor likely wouldn't bother to take it (if they even noticed it) while trying to get her out of the house undetected. I also cannot understand how she wasn't discovered missing until afternoon, unless the parents didn't go to bed until after 2:30am and didn't get up until the time they discovered her missing? :waitasec: MOO

Wonder what the outstanding charges were related to ... hoping that Zahra is safe.
