Suppose this is what happened:

AB goes to the airport early to meet the biological mother of Zahra, while waiting, his conscience spoke to him and decided upon himself, enough of this, then he called the police to give a statement of new information. The cops go and pick him up, another officer remains at the airport to meet the family member and escorts her to a local hotel or place to bed down at. While at the station they read him his rights, and AB gives them more. They head out to several search area's and find some leads, no body but enough leads to bring EB to one of the search sites to show her that AB is talking and to show her the JIG is up. Hoping that EB will confess and lead them to Zahra. Attorney gets word, leaves and is now on scene and advises EB to not talk. Now the case is stuck, so the cops have to regroup and go over what they found with AB again.

Turned himself in????????????? Now why don't I believe that?

CNN is now reporting--or repeating?--that AB was picked up at the airport, too...

(Then again they are also running the amazing video story "Got bedbugs? They kill the romance." And no word there as yet about the latest Indonesian tsunami. *sigh*)

Adding the following:

Zahra's father, Adam Troy Baker, was at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport picking up a family member Sunday before he voluntarily went to the police department in Hickory, about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte, to talk to authorities.

At Adam Baker's request, the closest Australian consulate, in Atlanta, Georgia, was notified of his arrest. He is an Australian citizen, according to press reports.

:woohoo: ETA: This article actually makes more sense in how it all went down regarding Adam's arrest.

:blushing: RB and UBM and thanks Patty (and Kat! double :blushing:)... I made the mental leap that he was perhaps at the airport when LE "offered him the opportunity" to come down and have a chat at the station "voluntarily" if that makes sense... Thank you for the expanded snip to go with my link!

Possible - His mother arrived and said what the hell is going? Then she put pressure on him to do the right thing. I still have faith in Karen, she loved Zahra. The family have given him advice about the aussie consulate, which is exactly what they should do.

Which is exactly what I would do for myself or any family member as well should we be arrested while overseas. JMHO

I felt the same way early in my morning. I felt if Adam's family is here, they will bond him out of jail.

His family MUST have received legal advice before going to America, from someone that knows the American legal system and specifically the North Carolina legal system. Believe me they know this is a death penalty state. I'm sure they will bond him out - don't know how much consular assistance he'll get, just the basics I would imagine.

You beat me to it, I was rushing in to post same thought! Maybe he's more scared of his mother than he is of prison?

Consular abilities when Australian is arrested abroad. JFYI if anyone is curious.

Best part of the link is:

What we cannot doWe cannot:

get you out of jail, or give Local Authorities written guarantees to secure your release
determine your innocence or otherwise
conduct investigations relating to any alleged offence
provide you or your family with legal advice
make recommendations as to which lawyer you should choose
pay your lawyer’s fees, instigate court procedures or interfere in local judicial processes
seek better treatment for you than that provided to the host country’s own citizens or other nationals
arrange your bail or pay your fines
support you financially in prison, except in some circumstances where the country and your circumstances qualify you for the Prisoner Loan Scheme.

I don't think we will learn anything more today...too late for any press conference, they'll hold out until the AM if LE are planning one which I doubt.

Am I correct in understanding that for the threatening charges, the bail amount is not listed on the charging sheet because it is up to the court to determine appropriate bond? Thought I read way back in the mists of threads 13-22 that this was why EB's bail was set higher than the check charges would have warranted?

So CNN is saying that he was at the airport to pick up someone and yet no media has found who he picked up? I would think that reporters would be all over that person.
