NV - Mary Beth Franta, 49, Las Vegas, 13 Nov 2010

Peterson said Franta had three loves: her two grown children, her junior high science students and horses.

And family members say Franta was on her way to take care of one of those loves — her horses — when she disappeared Saturday night.

"She was going to feed her horses like always," her cousin, Ronald McLaughlin, said a relative told him.

But it's unclear whether she ever made it there.

She seems like she was a great person.
And will be missed by family, friends and students.

RIP Mary Beth

Weird that they did not mention the husband as one of her loves.

RIP Mary Beth! So sad!

Local news reporting LE being very tight-lipped. Vehicle was found abandoned not far from where Mary Beth's body was found.

I've not seen any official word that she was married.

Yep. Looks like she was married - to yet another .

Ya know, it irritates me the way this whole thing has come down.

Yesterday was the first time the local media reported Mary Beth was missing. Never heard one word about a body being found on Sunday until this morning. How could they not know it was her?

If her husband did kill her and was also the one to report her missing, I suppose the timeline we have seen may not be accurate. Or maybe they were just trying to smoke him out?

When will these idiot husbands ever learn???

What a terrible situation. I feel for her family and friends for what they are going through.

That would explain why her husband wasn't listed as one of her loves...

I am in Vegas and caught morning news. Kids liked her but said she was a tough grader and expected much of them. Husband declined comment.

ABsolutely horrible. So sorry, Mrs. Franta and family. Good luck to her son, I can't imagine what he is going through. What a is the husband.

Metro Police detectives believe the husband of Las Vegas teacher Marybeth Franta was drunk when he got into an argument with his wife, killed her and then drove to a desert area behind a grocery store to dump her body, according to an arrest report released Thursday by the Clark County District Attorney’s office.

The report also said the man is seen on surveillance video from both the grocery store and a nearby convenience store after the body was left in the desert area.

Police Say Murdered Teacher Endured History of Violence

Metro believes Mary Beth returned home Saturday from a wedding and got into a fight with her drunken husband Mark Franta. Police say Mark Franta brutally beat his wife in the head and killed her. Police say she died of asphyxiation. Her body was found in a desert lot behind an Albertson's supermarket near Craig and Tenaya.

Metro homicide Lt. Lew Roberts says Mary Beth's love of horseback riding may have been a way to explain injuries caused by abuse. "Some of the signs and symptoms were explained away by (the fact) she was an avid lover of horses, riding horses things like that," Lt. Roberts said.

Police Stopped Husband Night Of Wife’s Killing
Detectives Say Franta Admitted To Drinking Problem

Las Vegas Metro police stopped and questioned a man accused of killing his wife the night her body was dumped behind a grocery store on the city’s northwest side.

Because he was too drunk to drive, Franta said he decided to walk from the couple’s home -- at Torrey Pines Drive and Harmon Avenue -- to meet his wife, but turned around at Smoke Ranch Road.

During his walk, Franta told police he was stopped and questioned by two officers but was eventually let go.

A separate police report showed the two officers had stopped Franta on foot just after 3 a.m. at U.S. 95 and Rainbow Boulevard -- about midway to his house.

When questioned about the surveillance video, police said, “Franta did not provide any explanation for his being seen parking the Tribute in front of Albertsons, nor his being at the Short Line Express; nor did he deny doing so or being there.”

The distance from the Albertson's to the Franta home was approximately 10 miles.

This is so sad. We've had several murders of women who were in domesticlly violent relationships in recent weeks here in Vegas. At the very least, I hope their stories will prevent more of the same so they will not have died in vain.
