GUILTY NY - Lawrence Taylor for rape of 15yo girl, Montebello, 2010

I didn't get that from reading the article.

Snipped: (BBM and my comments in red)

On May 8, 2002, just six months after tying the knot with his second wife, Maritza Cruz, Taylor allegedly blew up at his home when she accused him of cheating after finding glitter in his car, a Miami Beach police report said.

According to Cruz's statements, Taylor yanked her right arm and knocked her to the floor. She said Taylor also kicked her stomach while wearing golf spikes.

Taylor was not arrested, but Cruz got a restraining order. So, if he did this, why no arrest? Maybe not enough evidence????

A second fight took place on Dec. 29, 2002, when Taylor threw a TV remote against a wall and grabbed Cruz during a row over watching television in the bedroom, a police report said. Taylor was not arrested. Again, not arrested?

The toxic pair divorced in 2005.

Taylor married his third wife, Lynette Gordon, in July 2007, but they were feuding months before the nuptials.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at Taylor's home in Pembroke Pines, Fla., on April 7, 2007. The couple told police they were just arguing. Cops returned to Taylor's home on Dec. 28, 2008. This time the two were married and fighting over houseguests, according to a report.

Another dispute erupted this past March 4. The police report said Taylor had a spat with his wife over "a family matter."

I'm just not getting wife beater out of this. I see allegations, no arrests, and spats.

Yeah, just like Nichole Simpson. It screams wife beater to me! It also screams at the unwillingness to give celeberties what they deserve.

The guy made an honest mistake. All of his history with drug use really isn't relevant.

Like it or not, people have been paying for sex for a VERY long time. Nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Personally, I think prostitution being illegal is kind of silly in itself. But regardless, this guy had sex with a woman who told him that she was 19. That shouldn't label him as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

In the end, the law is the law, which the judge had to abide by. But that is also why the judge made it very clear that the crime wasn't very excessive.

Intent should and does mean a lot in a case like this. And his intent wasn't to have sex with a minor, it was to have sex with a woman he thought was 19.

I know not everyone will agree with that, but that is my take on it.

I'm not saying you're wrong just a few points I want to make. I'll look for a link later tonight to backup what I'm saying. I believe I read this;

1. She initially told police Taylor was the beater but later confessed that her pimp beat her up because they were gonna tell LE Taylor did it to scam him. She also says the pimp beat her because she didn't want to do it.

2. If that's true and Taylor thought he was ordering a 19 year old girl, while that's extremely skeevy it doesn't make him a kidnapping type pedophile.

3. I think, like the judge, it's unlikely to happen again. I think Taylor called an escort service for a legal girl and got scammed in the process.

4. The guy who should never see the light of day again should be the guy who beat her into doing this.

5. I gotta tell ya.If I were to ever call an escort service and get a woman with bruises all over her body I'd call 911.

A lot of women do the escort thing because they want to but a woman with bruises would be a red flag that she probably doesn't want to do it.

BBM I never said he was.

Personally it doesn't matter one bit to me if Taylor was the one or beat her. He wasn't charged with that. It's enough for me that he picked up the phone, ordered a hooker, and had, in fact had sex with a trafficked 15 year old. I don't care if the girl was awarded Hooker of The Year 2009. Statutory rape is a crime. How old is he? Old enough to know better.

Sorry, I should have made it clear that I was speaking generally. I was only addressing the judges point that it's unlikely to happen again. I think he got off too light as well but I understand the reasoning behind the light sentence. That's why I wasn't sure what to say.

I'd have to see the girl to tell whether Taylor should have been able to tell she was under 17. I also don't know how long it takes bruises to show up after the initial hit. If she showed up bruised then he should have called the cops.

That was addressing the legal points only. I don't think it's likely to happen again. Morally, it's a much different story.

It's ironic that all the stories are shouting that Taylor doesn't have to have his name on the Internet in New York. They don't realize that if a person has to register as a sex offender in another state, if they own property in Florida, they have to be registered in Florida as well.

And lookie here... Lawrence Taylor's Sex Offender Registry listing in Florida:

http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/of....state.fl.us/offender/flyer.do?personId=74562

Unfortunately, his address is not within 1000 feet of a park or school, so he can't be arrested for registry violations. But he MUST show up every year!!

THIS SHOULD BE SHOUTED OUT TO ALL THE NEWS MEDIA!!

I'm watching Mike and Mike (An ESPN radiio show) and they have Lawrence Taylor coming in as a guest because he's one of the HOF's hired by EA Sports to help push the new Madden Football game. I'm disgusted by this. How anyone at EA Sports could think hiring him was a good idea is beyond me.
