3 more sets of remains found on NY beach

Searchers scouring dense undergrowth for more victims of a suspected serial killer along a remote New York beach area have now found a total of eight sets of human remains, authorities said Monday.

Investigators have searched the area, roughly 7.5 miles, several times since December. Dormer said the discovery of the latest remains gives investigators new possible leads into the killings of all the victims.

Forensic testing determined that the body found last week was not that of Shannan Gilbert, a missing Jersey City, N.J., woman. Because authorities have DNA samples from her family, a comparison with the latest remains "should come pretty quickly," Dormer said.

Does anyone know if there is already a thread (perhaps in Crimes) about the finding of all of these bodies and the search for a serial killer? I hope that one of these is Shannan, so she can be put to rest, but there are also 7 others that have been killed, presumably by the same perp.

I know from experience that escorts do not generally just "lose" their minds and start believing, erroneously, that someone is trying to kill them. This whole tale of her "refusing" to leave and the driver saying she was irrational... well, yes, of course she was irrational. Someone was definitely trying to hurt this girl. I am nearing forty years old now, mother, artist, very quiet, nice life in the burbs near the ocean, but when I was 22, for a very brief period, three weeks, perhaps, this was not the case. I know of what I speak. They need to look at the owner of the home who "hosted" her. I imagine the man is shaking in his boots.
Very sad and disturbing tale. They found there more sets of remains on the nearby beach today and are testing them to see if they match Shannan.
These stories terrify me. For many, many reasons.
She may have grown into a fine, quiet souled woman one day. A mother, a wife, a friend. I wish these kids would think twice before they throw it all away for some fast cash. Times are financially hard and young women can be so emotionally lost and hurting in so many ways... it's terribly, terribly upsetting to me seeing these women die for nice clothes, an iphone, a car payment...
May her family find the closure they need.
Look at the homeowner, IMO. He "ordered" her, she became hysterical and fled... it's a simple thing. There will be justice.

Police: Missing woman not among 8 beach victims

Detectives searching for a missing New Jersey prostitute have uncovered the remains of eight possible victims of a serial killer along a remote New York beach highway, but said Tuesday that none is the woman they have been looking for.

“I'm just shocked,” Sherre Gilbert said in a brief telephone interview after learning from Suffolk County detectives that her sister, Shannan Gilbert, was not among the eight bodies found along Ocean Parkway on Long Island in recent months. “I am still hoping for the best outcome.”

Some investigators now believe the killer's behaviour points to a man who has a deep knowledge of how police investigate serious crimes.

One told the New York Times: 'He is a guy aware of how we utilize technology. Frankly, people are thinking maybe he could be a cop - either one still in law enforcement or one who has moved on.

'Without question this guy is smart, this guy is not a dope. It's a guy who thinks about things.'

Meanwhile, the last man to see suspected victim Shannan Gilbert, 24, before she disappeared sparking the Craigslist manhunt, believes the prostitute is still alive.

Gilbert disappeared last May after she ran from his house in a drug-fueled frenzy, knocking on neighbours' doors for help screaming: 'They are trying to kill me.'

She spent 23 minutes on the phone with a 911 operator before vanishing into the night.

The tapes have never been released.

Another man was staying in Brewer's home that night and partied with Gilbert, according to the New York Post.

He has been identified as a 48-year-old drifter who likes strippers.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the 48-year-old man.

His mom told the paper Friday that her son had contacted her after Gilbert's disappearance, and that she believes he is somewhere in Georgia.

I hope this new information leads to finding Shannan! It is a long shot to find this unnamed person, but at least they know who he is, and it seems like his family members are being helpful and worried that he may have done something to hurt her.

Missing Jersey City woman is more than a memory for her boyfriend, she's a daily reason for hope

Almost a year after Jersey City's Shannan Gilbert vanished, her boyfriend Alex Diaz still thinks about her every day.

"I really don't think I'll be able to move on until they've found her," he said. "It's hard when you've got no closure."

Search Continues For Missing New Jersey Craigslist Escort Shannan Gilbert

Authorities on Long Island once again entered the gated beach association where a missing Jersey City prostitute was last seen alive.

The Suffolk County Marine Unit once again had divers using metal detectors and clam rakes search for any evidence of Shannan Gilbert, who disappeared after running from a Craigslist client’s home last May.

The ongoing search has many local residents unnerved.

Lest we forget there is one member of the OB community who has been known to drive around there in a car equipped with red lights that blink. And he did activate that switch at times so they did blink.

With all we know about him what is the problem with LE? What are they missing to cuff him?

Maybe they want to find Shannan first as her body will give them irrefutable evidence of the killer. There is always something found on or around the remains that tells a story, right?

Missing LI girl's mother may have contributed to daughter's disappearance

The guilt-ridden mother of missing call girl Shannan Gilbert -- whose disappearance sparked the investigation into a Long Island serial killer -- fears she contributed to her daughter's disappearance, a report out today reveals.

Mari Gilbert, Shannan's mother, said she spoke to her daughter six hours before her mysterious disappearance and believes the call girl argued with her driver over money, she told New York magazine.

She theorizes that Gilbert refused to hand over a percentage of her earnings to her driver -- who was sitting outside while Gilbert was with her john -- because she needed cash to buy her mom a present.
