NY NY - Tammie McCormick, 13, Saratoga Springs, 29 Apr 1986

5/2/12

Last week, the anniversary of Tammie McCormick’s disappearance came and went with no new information on the 26-year-old missing persons case.

Police have not given up the investigation, but Saratoga Springs Police Department Investigations Lt. John Catone there has not been any new information on the case as of late.

“The person of interest is still the same, the locations of interest remains the same, and we continue to interview people who may have been associated with Tammie or the person of interest Arthur Mason Slaybaugh,” he said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Slaybaugh was a person of interest when McCormick initially disappeared and remains one, but he has since died.

He said the family is in constant contact with the department and the SSPD has worked with representatives from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. But because it is a cold case, Catone said there is limited time to work on it.

:bump: for Tammie, missing 27 years today. :(

Snipped:

Tammie missed her morning bus to Saratoga Springs Junior High School on west Circular Street in Saratoga Springs, New York on April 19, 1986. She told her sister she would hitch a ride to school instead. Tammie never arrived for her seventh-grade classes that day and has not been heard from again.

Quoting from the above article dated May 2, 2012--

"A cold case investigation into the disappearance of Tammie McCormick 26 years ago is nearing conclusion and is expected to lead to potential burial locations."

"Last week Catone and Lee Man- ning of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, along with a state forest ranger, toured some “locations of interest” where the girl’s body could be buried. These locations included two sites near the southern end of Saratoga Lake and two locations in Fulton County."

"Police have talked to family members and a former girlfriend of the late correction officer, Arthur Mason Slaybaugh, who died of a heart attack at 41 in 2001.
At least some information from these interviews has led police to potential burial locations."

Police to search for Saratoga girl missing since '86

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they've visited several upstate New York locations in an effort to locate the possible burial site of a 13-year-old girl who disappeared 26 years ago.

The 13-year-old was last seen on her way to Saratoga Springs Junior High School. Her sudden disappearance dogged police for years. Last year, there was an apparent break in the long-cold case. NewsChannel 13 reported that police had identified a person of interest, Arthur Mason Slaybaugh, a corrections officer who is now deceased.

Police told NewsChannel 13 that they hope to use dogs that are specially-trained to locate cadavers.

Saratoga Springs police are hoping to coordinate their use of the dogs with police in Washington County who are continuing to search for the body of Jaliek Rainwalker.

Investigators say they've interviewed nearly 100 people since the cold case was reopened two years ago.

About three years ago, investigators reopened the case and started with a half-dozen interviews that led them to 75 people from Arkansas to Florida.

“We went to one little place called Timbo, Ark.,” Assistant Police Chief John Catone said. “It was 105 degrees. I’m not sure they have running water. From there we went to Jacksonville, Fla.... This person, from the Fulton County area, was feared by a lot of people. After he passed, we dug around and people became more willing to talk to us about the case.”

McCormick’s alleged attacker can’t be brought to justice because he’s already dead. But police were, and still are, hopeful of finding McCormick’s remains.

Could a mod make the picture comparison smaller? Thanks.

Rule outs for the UID:

Teresa Fittin 1957 Florida
Wendy Huggy 1965 Florida
Emma Vaughn 1967 Florida
Angela Westberry 1967 Florida

Seems like they haven't really looked outside of FL.

Bumping for Tammie. We've now passed the 30 year mark since she went missing.

Side by side of Tammie and doe in FL https://identifyus.org/en/cases/1211 If this is Tammie, she would have been approximately 16 at the time of her death (Doe remains found January 19, 1988). Investigators in Tammie's case did interview and travel to Jacksonville FL (Duval County) and the doe was found in Broward County (Fort Lauderdale area). This is a a distance, but perhaps she hitchhiked as she had done before?

If you look at the Doe Network page for that UID, it says she was found in 1988 but the estimated date of death was 1985-1986 which would seem to match up pretty well with Tammy.

Has anything been submitted? Suggesting this doe could be Tammie? Anyone know what Tammie was wearing when last seen? Know anything about the bracelet?

[h=1]Police digging in a field in connection to missing person cold case[/h]
Tuesday Saratoga Springs Police and State Police executed a search warrant for a property on Route 30 in the town of Northampton in Fulton County in a 31-year-old cold case.

Investigators say new leads prompted them to reopen the case of Tammie McCormick. She was 13-years-old in 1986 when she was last seen. Her family reported her missing when she didn't return home from her Saratoga Springs junior high school.

Crews used an excavator to dig behind a home. Digging is expected to resume Wednesday morning.

Police said within the last couple of months new information lead to the search warrant and the excavation behind the home on Route 30 in Northampton. He says the renters living in the home where they're excavating, didn't live here back in 1986.

"People come up to us with different stories or allegations and we have to vet that information to see if there is any legitimacy, because if we are going to ask a judge to sign a search warrant for someone's property, we have to make sure we are on the up and up," said Lt. Jillson.

He says he believes they could be here a few days, and that they are still interviewing people along the way.

State Police are searching behind a property along Route 30 in Northampton, Fulton County, just north of the Northampton Diner.
A backhoe has been clearing out a spot about 30 yards from the road, pulling out dirt, large pieces of foam stuffing and what appears to be old car seat cushions. The property where the search is focused is owned by a relative of Arthur Mason Slaybaugh II, who was identified in 2011 as a person of interest in the case. Slaybaugh, who had worked as a correction officer, died of a heart attack in 2001 at age 41.
