5/19/21 Update: A recent evaluation indicated there had been no change in Legg’s mental status, and he is unable to understand the nature & objectives of the criminal proceedings against him, is unable to assist in his defense & remains a mentally ill person subject to a court order. Legg will be evaluated again in two years & have another hearing before Durkin. Judge John Durkin ruled Wednesday Legg will remain in Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare in the Columbus mental hospital. Next hearing Notes for Court on 4/17/23 @ 7am.

Familial DNA match. Was extradited (Jan. 2018) from Chandler, AZ to Ohio.

11/24/21 Update: Medina County Judge Joyce Kimbler found Legg responsible for two counts of felony rape. However, due to mental illness, Legg is deemed unfit to stand trial, according to court records. Legg will remain committed to a hospital in Columbus for up to 10 years. In appeals
IL - *Julie A. Konkol (39) (found strangled Oct. 23, 1997, behind the abandoned Senter's truck stop in the 43000 block of Old Route 41 in Russell) - *Samuel William Legg III (27 @ time of crime/49/now 53) charged (7/30/20) with 2 counts of 1st degree murder. $3M bond. Lake County
Will eventually be extradited to Illinois to face the charges. The warrants were filed on 7/29/20 when the case was opened. They are for Murder/Intent to Kill/Injure & Murder/Strong Prob Kill/Injure.

Trucker accused in Austintown cold case once again ruled incompetent to stand trial

53-year-old Samuel Legg had previously been deemed incompetent back in 2019, and again in 2021. Court employees tell 21 News Legg will have another evaluative hearing in 2025.

A truck driver suspected in a 1992 cold case in Austintown was once again deemed incompetent to stand trial.

According to court employees, 53-year-old Samuel Legg was sent back to the Twin Valley Behavioral Health Center in Columbus after once again being deemed incompetent to stand trial.

Legg had previously been deemed incompetent back in 2019, and again in 2021. Court employees tell 21 News Legg will have another evaluative hearing in 2025.
