Could be Marie Elizabeth Spannhake (MP40883)? Missing out of Chico in 1976, she was 19 when she disappeared and is presumed to have been murdered. Her body was supposedly buried around Lassen National Park along highway 44, but I am skeptical of that considering the confession was given by her supposed killer(s).

She was last seen wearing a sweater (unknown what color) and jeans. Holkum peak is~200 miles north of Redding/Chico up I-5.

I am unsure if a comparison can be made though, Marie has no dentals, DNA, or identifiers listed.

Nancy Lynn Jason - #MP13877
Missing From: Bethesda, MD

DLC: July 17, 1977
Height: 5'7" (67 inches)
Circumstances: Jason was last seen when she picked up some medicine at her Bethesda, Maryland residence on July 20, 1977. She has never been heard from again.

She was affiliated with the Divine Light Mission, a religious group based on Hindu beliefs that was founded in 1960 and rose to prominence in the West during the 1970s. She was possibly staying with their members at a house in Bethesda. She planned to attend a Divine Light Mission meeting in Florida and had packed clothes, money and a camera for her upcoming trip, but left them all behind when she went missing.

Jason has been known to hitchhike. It's possible she did travel to Florida without her luggage. She enjoyed jewelry making in 1977. She is originally from the Chevy Chase, Maryland area and graduated high school there. Her case remains unsolved. (per Charley Project)

Rodney Lynn Grissom - #MP14013
Missing From: Albany, OR (approx. a 3-hour drive from Williams)
Missing Age: 14
DLC: May 24, 1977
Height: 5'2" - 5'4" (62 - 64 inches)
Circumstances: Rodney was last seen in Albany, Oregon on May 24, 1977. Authorities believe he left with Karen Lee, who disappeared two days after he did. The pair reportedly planned to hitchhike to California. They called a friend from a pay phone in Lebanon, Oregon after leaving home, then Karen said, "Our ride is here. I have to go." Karen and Rodney were never heard from again.

Later that year, some of the pair's belongings were found off a logging road in Linn County, Oregon. The items included Karen's jeans, some pages from her journal, and a blouse she'd sewn, and Rodney's watch and some of his other things. Karen's jeans appeared to have been cut.

Rodney was initially reported to the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Oregon in 1977. He was reported missing to the Linn County Sheriff's Office in 2012. Few details are available in Karen and Rodney's cases, but foul play is suspected. (per Charley Project)

Nancy Lynn Kirkpatrick - #MP3897
Missing From: Columbia Falls, MT
Missing Age: 16
DLC: April 21, 1976
Height: 5'1" (61 inches)
Circumstances: Nancy was last seen in Columbia Falls, Montana on April 21, 1976. She babysat for a neighborhood family that day and was last seen walking home afterwards. She never arrived at her residence and has never been heard from again.

Nancy's parents were divorced and she lived with her grandmother at the time of her disappearance. Her loved ones described her as a normal teenager and a good student who was interested in the hippie counterculture.

However, she was a chronic runaway, and had traveled as far as Seattle, Washington and Los Angeles, California. The police would always find her and bring her home. The day Nancy disappeared, she had just been returned home after running away and spent a day in lockup in Kalispell, Montana before being released to go back to her grandmother in Columbia Falls. It's possible she ran away again.

One of her teachers thought they saw her at a bar in Anchorage, Alaska in May 1983, seven years later, but this sighting was never confirmed.

Less than a year before Nancy went missing, another teen girl, Robyn Pettinato, disappeared from a town about ten miles from Columbia Falls. She has never been found. It's theorized that there's some connection between the two cases, but this hasn't been proven. Both cases remain unsolved.

I also thought of Jay - though since I assume they now have DNA, I wondered if he was an automatic rule out.
Surely. Hopefully.

Hmm. I wonder how the missing females listed on NamUs were excluded. DNA? And when the system (I’m assuming it’s automated) compares MPs with UIDs, is every person in the database compared regardless of sex? I’m still not sure how any of that works but it made me think. Maybe we’ll start seeing male exclusions on NamUs now.
